View 6 RepliesI recently installed likewise 6.0 on a Ubuntu 10.04 box and I was able to login as a Domain user. However my domain user account is not showing on the "User Settings" panel (I can only see locally created accounts). And if try to change login shell by typing "chsh", then it tells me user "DOMAINusername" does not exist in /etc/passwd.
Does anyone know a way around this?
Why isn't the Rhythmbox icon showing up in the top panel? I love having that thing there, but now changing songs is so inconvenient. :[
View 4 Replies View RelatedLucid now has a 'feature' of clogging up the bottom panel, showing open programs twice [normal mode, on the left, compact mode on the right], can this be disabled?
I've attached a screenshot of what I mean, in case I'm not completely clear: see the compact open program thingy's right next to the workspace switcher.
I don't know but just one day after I restarted my ubuntu 10.10 pc. Probably after an update. Dropbox no longer shows up in the top panel. I also had a thing called googsystray, that no longer shows up either. I can see the process dropbox is running.

I tried to remove everything that are related to unity. and install it back , but with no avail. No I log into my ubuntu with ubuntu classic.

I am running ubuntu 11.04 in classic mode and for some reason the little network icon located in the top panel disappeared. I tried resetting the panels using:
Code:
gconftool --recursive-unset /apps/panel && killall gnome-panel
When I right click and choose add to panel it doesn't show up as one of the options.
I also installed compizconfig and docky then it disappeared. would this have anything to do with this?
After a dist-upgrade, the sshmenu-gnome applet that I had on the gnome panel is not showing any more.
Also if I try to re-add it to the panel it is not listed at all.
How can I restore it?
My sons Ubuntu installation on his computer hasn't showed the Network Connections Icon in the Panel for a long time. This weekend everything was working fine and we needed to go away for the weekend and unhooked the router. When we came back the computer wouldn't connect back up to the internet.
How can I fix the Wired Connections Icon on the Panel and get the Auto Connect to work again?
I downloaded a really nice wallpaper and stuck it on my desktop. However, not all of it is showing. Some of it is hidden by my panel. How do I get it to show all, yet still leave the panel untouched?

View 6 Replies View RelatedI found that some application icons in the panel bar (at the bottom) is not shown correctly, which makes it hard to tell which application it is when I iconify that application. For example, the emacs application icon in panel bar used to be like a goat head. But now it looks like a generic icon, which I cannot tell it is an emacs application. I attached a screen shot here to show this issue.
View 8 Replies View RelatedBizarrest thing after swapping in my HDD from an old laptop into a new one. My LXDE panel temperature display is showing "-273," AKA absolute zero in celcius. I've done a bit of googling for lxde temp sensor, and most of the discussions I saw referred to installing lm-sensors, which apparently I did not yet have, although on my old laptop the temperature was shown correctly. I believe the automatic sensor location is off and I need to give it the correct location manually. I am unsure of how to do that, and it makes sense that it's hardware specific. After installing lm-sensors, I saw that sensors-detect provides me with a list of the correct temp sensors in my computer, but I'm unsure how to save those results so the computer can use them.

After installation they are supposed to be found in the Add to Panel items, but both of them are not there.I can run them directly without any problem. Is there anything else I should do manually? I have tried pkill gnome-panel to restart the panel as well.
View 9 Replies View RelatedMy family uses a computer running Ubuntu 10.04. We each have a separate login. This computer connects to the internet via wifi.
A behaviour which I have noticed is as follows - the first user to log in gets the network manager applet icon. So they can control the network connection. Any other user that subsequently logs in does not.
Now this is a real pain in the butt as sometimes our wifi connection drops and I might have left my wife logged in and used the 'switch user' function to get access to my login. The only way I can access the applet is by switching back to her login.
Is there any way to make this appear in everyone's login's at the same time?
First user, everything still normal. All other users and any added users basically have no desktop now. Background and arrow are there, but no right-click no panels. Have tried every option in other similar posts including deleting .config, .gnome2, etc files. Also tried all the commands at URL..I can login user with xterm session and launch gnome-panel, which provides some functionality, but this basically sucks, because there is no window manager. I have tried changing themes and various compiz stuff, but no success yet. Even removed and reinstalled compiz.

View 1 Replies View RelatedWhen I try to connect a projector to my laptop (already running) and hit the fn+f7 (the designated button for switching screen), nothing happens. I see "no source found" on projector screen and my laptop screen works perfectly. Now if I restart the laptop with the projector connected, I see all the intial booting messages on the projector screen (not on my laptop), then the gnome login screen appears on both the projector screen and laptop (when the login screen appears on laptop it looks like it has lower resolution than my usual laptop resolution). But immediately after I log in, my laptop screen goes blank, and projector screen becomes the only active screen.
If I restart without the projector, again all normal operation on laptop screen is restored.
I feel like I am missing some very silly options. Any help is appreciated.
Here is the output of xrandr when the laptop is connected:

The 's' key opens the shutdown applet. This did not happen on 9.10, or earlier

How do I go about to fix this strange bug?
