I just install a new 640GB harddisk and when i check its properties it shows 30GB in used, 556.8GB free, and total capacity of 586.8GB. The filesystem is ext3/ext4. So much amount of space is gone for no reason.
I am searching a GUI based "tree view utility" which shows me which directories consume how much hard disc space (cumulative, including recursively the sub directories; including hidden files). Is there such a tool fur Ubuntu/Linux and how do I install it? Is there at least a cmdline command which does the same job in terminal window?
how can I clone my installed ubuntu to a new harddisk? with 32bit ubuntu I have used:tar cvpzf -> create a tar file on my external nas system. after that I have done a restore tar xvpfz - worked with 32 bit.
Alternative I have mounted both disks and via another linux partition I have used: cp -rvbdR /source/* /target
both methodes worked with ubuntu 32 bit. With 64 bit ubuntu I can NOT get it to work. error message after booting the clone: /var/lib/gdm/.ICEauthoriy ..
I can see that /source/var/lib/gdm has different rights as /target - will be part of the problem. This did not happen with the 32 bit ubuntu - but why ?
So I have a laptop that I installed 9.10 on recently and for a bit everything was going fine. I have done a few updates over the course of the past week and for a couple days now I have got a huge problem. I am unable to view web pages without having to refresh them over and over until it finally loads. I thought this issue was only with Firefox and I researched the issue and ended up disabling ipv6 in FF. To no avail.
Synaptic Package Manager also will not connect to the internet. It will receive the list of updates but as soon as I click install it sticks on Downloading File 1 of XX. Since it wasn't limited to Firefox and there is debate on whether ipv6 slows down connectivity, I have disabled it system wide. Also to no avail. I have confirmed this to be so with wired and wireless connections to my router.
I've been having a common problem that most users get when trying to view .php files on a web browsers. I feel like I've tried everything including clearing the cache. This is the read what when typing this commands.
I am currently tinkering with my SMB configuration in my home server. My purpose is to enable users in the network to view, browse and edit files I decided to share. However, I would like them to do just plain old connect and open the folders without the server asking them for a username and password.
I own an HP Mini with Ubuntu Netbook Remix, and a Western Digital 500 GB Portable External Hard Drive. I recently started to not be able to view the files on my external, with the message:
Unable to mount the volume 'Elements'.
Details Failed to open $AttrDef: Input/output error Failed to mount '/dev/sdb1': Input/output error NTFS is either inconsistent, or you have hardware faults, or you have a SoftRAID/FakeRAID hardware. In the first case run chkdsk /f on Windows then reboot into Windows TWICE. The usage of the /f parameter is very important! If you have SoftRAID/FakeRAID then first you must activate it and mount a different device under the /dev/mapper/ directory, (e.g. /dev/mapper/nvidia_eahaabcc1). Please see the 'dmraid' documentation for the details. I don't think I have any SoftRAID/FakeRAID hardware, and I definitely don't run Windows.
I want small facebook tab like widget on my desktop. It is available in kubuntu. Is there any way to create it??I should be able to view updates, update my status etc
I have ran into a really strange issue. for some reason when I go to view any website that's hosted on my slackware 13.0 box it comes up with cannot be displayed, but when I rename the current index.php or index.html to backup then create a whole new index.php or index.html with just a few words or some basic html it will display but once I start adding in other coding for images or stuff like that, it goes back to page cannot be displayed

I have configured and installed as per directions successfully, but I am unable to view PHP or HTML webpages. Seems like I am missing some small thing.
These are the details of my LAMP Stack. I have attached my httpd.conf hereby.
I double click "My Computer" and Konqueror goes to sysinfo:/I then try to click on one of my partitions (ones that are already mounted or ones that are not)eeted with the error; There is no application installed that can open files of the type block device inode/blockdevice).Do you want to try to install one?It goes through the repo and finds nothing.I love openSUSE and this one error is the only thing keeping me from being able to use this release.
However, when I visited this site [/IMG](consisting of a pdf file), I am unable to view the site.
Only, upon installing acroread, the site/file is then visible.
Note that BEFORE installing acroread, the site can be viewed with konqueror. [/IMG]
How can Firefox be configured to view the site without installing acroread?
Somehow I got libjpeg out of my system, and can't get it back working. I have installed jpeg-8b package, applications installed by it work, but not "system-wide" support for jpeg. Eg. I can use "cjpeg", but Eye of Gnome (image viewer) gives me "Unrecognized image file format" error.
Could you please point me to some right solution? Where does Debian look for this library?
I have fresh CentOS 5.2 installed to 2 sata hdd 1.5 TB size; on every of that hdd is primary raid1 submirror of /boot made with md during install. All other space is lvm place, on lvm living root and swap partitions. And it's work. Now I want to mirror my root and swap, and add other volumes with different raid requirements (raid0 and raid1).
# lvcreate -L10G -m1 -n mir vg0 Insufficient suitable allocatable extents for logical volume : 320 more required Unable to allocate extents for mirror(s).

I'm unable to open and view folders graphically. I click Places -> Home Folder (or any of the other folders, including Computer), and the cursor turns to the spinning "wait" dial, but the folder won't appear. A tab appears in the bottom panel, with the title "opening ZenBeam" (or "opening Desktop" or "Starting Computer", depending on which folder I tried to open) for a few seconds, but then goes away. Left- or Right-clicking on these tabs doesn't give me any options.
This used to work normally, but stopped suddenly a few days ago, following a reboot. I'm guessing it's become corrupted, but I don't know what "it" is. I can navigate in a command line window normally.I have rebooted, and I have run System -> Administration -> Software Update, but that didn't fix the problem.I was going to add the information in System -> About This Computer, but that seems to be having the same problem. What can I do to fix this? What application is failing to run?
I have a physical machine of CentOs-5.4 on which I had installed Xen Virtualization. I have created VMs on that machine using virt-install. After installing all the VMs i used command virt-manager to see all the installed VMs. But after I have restarted my physical machine I am unable to find installed VMs by virt-manager command. It only shows name of the machine and id a qemu and can't see any installed VMs.
Logical Memory Space of 4GB is divided in to 3GB User Space and 1GB Kernel Space. Always. Correct?
1. How can we change it? (just changing value of PAGE_OFFSET is okay?)
2. If system have only 256MB of memory (embedded system) and suppose Kernel Modules eat away all the memory during boot. User space will be left will no memory. Is this case possible?
I am running opensuse with LAMP, and this is my first time setting up this type of server (usually am a windows junkie) My problem i am having is that I am unable to view my website from outside the local network. I have setup my router for a dynamic dns and forwarded all the ports through the router and the local firewall. I ran the apache setup through YAST2 and everything seems fine locally but when i attempt to access it elsewhere its not connecting. computechsolutions.dyndns.biz is the dynamic dns address i have setup through my router.
