I am having problems with my Drupl install, which I got from the repository with apt-get.
Each time a update comes out, about once a month, my one Drupal site breaks.
How do I turn off the feature just for the Drupal packages? I am downloading the install files from [URL], and going with the tar.gz files.
having had problems with getting grub2 to work on dual HDD setup...despite the most excellent advice on the forum i took the plunge and installed 10.10 from update manager within 10.04..... bingo fixed grub and now have dual boot again. but the update manager and synaptic package don't work because of libedata-cal1.2-6 file that remains..following other advice on the forum Advice gratefully received, how can i force an unistall of this package

View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm running Karmic on an Acer Aspire AO751h and very aware of the issues regarding the GMA500 ans psb drivers, and after reading all the forums I've finally accomplished to make it work just fine. Last week it performed an update via the update manager and since then I haven't been able to restore/run any of the compiz settings and found out that the problem is that it doesn't let me turn on my visual effects under the appearance settings. When I attempt to set them as normal or extra, it starts "searching for available drivers" then the screen blinks several times, goes black, hides every window and just shows me my desktop background and then come back again and displays "Desktop effects could not be enabled". As I mentioned before, Compiz was running fine and I had no issues with the visual effects prior to the last update perfomed a week ago. Can you help me please?? If you need further information I'll be more than glad to provide them tou you, this is driving me nuts!
View 2 Replies View RelatedI decided to update all the software on my computer. Fortunately, it upgraded kernel version 3.14 to 3.16. I was happy to learn that suspend now worked on my laptop by calling pm-suspend, but it did not worked by closing the lid. So I search and found on debian's website that installing systemd and adding some config lines in /etc/systemd/logind.conf would sove the issue. So I followed the procedure and did like instructed, to end up with a computer that boots on black screen.
The last verbrose line I see on boot up is "kvm disabled by bios" and then it shutdown down the screen. The computer works, as I can login and shutdown by doing those operation blindly.
I tried removing systemd but it still does not work. If I use the old kernel 3.14 I can boot without any problem, but if I use kernel 3.16, I boot to a black screen. I remember successfully booting in 3.16 before installing systemd.
Ubuntu 10.04 64 bit I have not been able to update using the update manager or by using the package manager. It seems when the update manager tries to download all the requests fail.Anyone else had this problem??

And when it ask me about plugin I give the path to it. (the 3.9.2 version of the plugin, because Ubuntu 9.04 has the 3.9.2 version of hplip)
well I install the printer, everything works perfectly.....but, when I turn off the PC, and turn it on again, the printer does NOT work!, I send work for being printed but mothing happens , Ubuntu tells me that the job was printed but ... no case, my printer does not print it.
I have to install it again since cero. what can I don to stop install it every time I turn off the computer ?

version - 2007.dfsg.17-2ubuntu1
Also it is the latest version available in the repo. However, this is not the
latest in pstricks. I find that version in the new 10.04 is 2009-7ubuntu3
Is there some way to get this installed in 9.10? Or I have to upgrade my whole installation?
I tried to install the packages for atmel at76 in order to get my usb wifi dongle work, the Kpackagemanager told me that "some modifcation are necessary to acomplish the task" on followings packages:
linux-generic
linux image-generic
linux firmware.
When selecting okay the following error message appear :

I'm new to GNU/Linux and recently installed Edubuntu 10.10 beta on a workplace computer. I'm currently a technology intern at a public school and want to install Edubuntu on some older computers here. I am working behind a network proxy provided by the department of education.I tried to install flashplugin-nonfree and noticed I didn't have a full package list. After running sudo apt-get update I get the error "unable to connect to[url]....
I'm thinking this might have to do with the network proxy, but for some reason I'm able to browse http:[url]... just fine in Firefox.How do I update the package list?
Edit: I installed Ubuntu 10.04 on another machine at work and it has the same issue, i.e. I can't update the package list.
Edit 2: I am using a .pac file for the proxy.

I get this message when automatic update runs: Apt Authentication issue Problem during package list update. The package list update failed with a authentication failure. This usually happens behind a network proxy server. Please try to click on the "Run this action now" button to correct the problem or update the list manually by running Update Manager and clicking on "Check". When I click "Run this action now" It comes back with a whole list of items that can't be updated for various reasons

View 4 Replies View RelatedI'm totally new to ubuntu and i have a major problem with updating ubuntu, I was looking around for some linux based gaming and came across the online game called "Regnum Online". I installed it and all goes fine until I restart my computer next day, the top panel that usually has daily updates is missing and in its place is a red circle with an x through it I hover over it with my mouse and it reads:
"An error occurred please run package manager from the right-click menu or apt-get in a terminal to see what is wrong."
Which I then right-click and open package manager and it gives the following response:
"E: Type '<!DOCTYPE' is not known on line 2 in source list /etc/apt/sources.list.d/onemyndseye-regnum.list
E: The list of sources could not be read.
Go to the repository dialog to correct the problem.

At the bottom of this message reads:
"this usually means that your installed packages have unmet dependencies."
I don't want to lose my personal files by wiping and reinstalling ubuntu.
I've recently downgraded kaffeine to 0.8.8 to get back the EPG which was working under hardy. Is there a simple way to prevent a package from updating when I update the rest of the system? I realise that this is not normally a good idea to keep packages back like this, but the upgrade to kaffeine caused the loss of a useful tool.

In other words, what is the most sensible and relatively easy way to rol-back to the previous version of that specific package without affecting anything else (dependencies aside of course).
I want to do this with a recent adobe plug in.
I cannot update package information in Synaptic Package Manager. In terminal window it shows inability to connect to 10.3.2.1:8080 (http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/dists/lucid etc). If I point to this url in my browser I can access the files.

A package I'm trying to install requires libdrm, version 2.4.3 at least. I downloaded version 2.4.6.7, when I tried to install it, it says that it already is even though I passed -U to rpm. Trying to remove the earlier version of libdrm first didn't work either because there are already packages installed depending on it. How can I upgrade this package? (yum isn't an option at this time)

i get the same error if i update in a terminal or from Synaptic Package Manager.
When I open Update Manager and click "check," it starts downloading package information and then the following pops up: Could not download all repository indexes.
The repository may no longer be available or could not be contacted because of network problems. If available an older version of the failed index will be used. Otherwise the repository will be ignored. Check your network connection and ensure the repository address in the preferences is correct.

I opened Software Sources to try and remove the repositories, but couldn't find them. Plus I'm not sure if I need to manually replace these repositories with newer ones- I'm still relatively new at using Ubuntu (made the full switch from windows in October 2009). Plus, whenever I do install updates with the update manager, the "last updated" time doesn't reset itself. It finishes installing the selected packages, and the message at the top of the Update Manager window reads "Your system is up-to-date. The package information was last updated 28 days ago.
