i was facing some problems with themes in my os. i saw some really cool themes on gnomelook but when i downloaded and applied them, the desktop back ground doesnot change. only the colour of bars and cursors change.

View 2 Replies View RelatedFollowing script name is 123.sh and I need to put this in the background if I do 123.sh -bg this will not bring me back to the prompt but echoes what ever I put (using echo hello >> /tmp/123) in to the /temp/123 file. the only way that I have found doing this is to do "nohup 123.sh &" to put this in to the background. Is this okay or is there any better way of doing this?

The problem is, now that I try to go back to English, the locale doesn't change back, only the menus are in english. "Apply system wide" in the Language Support didn't do anything; Firefox is in japanese too. Here is my locale output:

I just downloaded Ubuntu Netbook Edition 10.04 and am running it from a usb flash drive on my Acer laptop.
At times I'd like to use the Gnome desktop. I know with the previous version there was a way to change to Gnome. Is there still a way to change to Gnome on the 10.04 version and if so how do I change to Gnome and back to Netbook Edition desktop?
When I booted up this morning the contents of my Home directory are all showing up on my desktop, and there is no single Home folder. How did this change, and how can I change it back so that the Home folder is on my Desktop with the contents inside of *it*?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have recently played around with Mac4lin a program to change the interface to one that resembles a Mac computer. I did not like the settings then decided to uninstall the program. It reverted to a really ugly looking gnome desktop rather than my previous settings. One thing that I don't like is that I have a foot icon on my gnome traditional menu button on the panel rather than the green ball type icon I used to have. I know it's not the end of the world that my icons do not look like it previously did, everything else is running smoothly, though I'm just more annoyed than anything else.

I have locked folders in my home folder labelled Ambiance and Radiance, which I think was left over from the install. Does anyone know how how to get my old themes back? P.S - I already removed the Ambiance Evolution PPA and reloaded Synaptic Package Manager, but it did nothing.

Within 10 minutes of installation, I had begun to look around to change the window 'theme' settings. I was scrolling through the themes and BOOM the system blanks out and forces me back to the login. At first I was thinking it was no big deal, but as it turns out, it will not let me back it.Basically, I use my credentials, it appears to login, it goes to a black screen with the cursor at the top left and then sends me back to login like nothing happened.

-what is the RGB value of the current purply background?
-can I change the background color?
-how does one go about making a plymouth module? (.so file)
In my customizations I have been able to swap the logo but not the background, I would like to change the background color to black, barring that I would like to change the background of my image to match the current purple/lavender/magenta whatever color is there now.And I have a sneaking suspicion that the bg color is set in the .so file
I recently installed Opera 10.10, and I'm loving the browser.I decided to try out some themes, decided I didn't like them, and went back to the default theme which I like.Now though, the right click menu of the mouse doesn't actually load a theme - similar to when a program that needs root privilages (Synaptec package manager for example) won't be skinned unless you put a theme folder in the .root directory.I've attached an image of the right click menu.how to get Opera to load the Gtk (I think) theme or inbuilt theme for context menus. I've tried removing/reinstalling, but it didn't work
Edit: Just noticed - buttons, and windows inside opera, aren't being themed either.So it seems anything that requires themes outside of Opera's main window won't work.
i have noticed that if vista is not the active partition, hybernate does not work. it just goes black and then back to the user icon screen to log back in. another "slight" problem was that i was not able to apply a service pack. after restoring vistas dominance i was able to install the pack. is there any other work arounds for hybernate? even though you might not be interested in cleaning up after microsoft.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have become very restless and irritated while trying to change the icon next to the applications tab on my top panel (I'm using Ubuntu 10.04 LTS Desktop). I've tried multiple methods and have had no luck. I've used the Ubuntu Tweak option for changing the icon. It didn't work. I've attempted taking my custom one and changing it in the directory itself but I can't figure out how to change the permissions to allow me to do this.
I've used the terminal to replace the icons but once again I was not given permission. I've spent hours trying and trying to get this to work and I'm stumped. Now to note the problem of this only being for a certain theme. I changed the theme from my custom theme (the one I want to change that icon for) to the Ambiance theme. I opened up Ubuntu Tweak and tried using the simple icon changer button...it worked. I had just d/led updates for it so I switched back to my custom theme to try it and nothing.

Controls: snow-leopard-mac (i don't remember where i d/led this)

I'm trying to downgrade gdm to version 2.20 in order be able to change gdm themes again, but following the instructions;
(1)sudo /ect/init.d/gdm stop
(2)sudo apt-get install gdm-2.20
(3)cd /ect/gdm
sudo sed 's|x11r6/||' gdm.conf >/tmp/gdm.conf
sudo mv /tmp/gdm.conf .
(5)sudo gdm
The output from the first command was "sudo: /ect/init.d/gdm: command not found" How can I downgrade, also is it because im running lucid, not karmic koala?

Customize lets you change the all the icons and folder icons to a particular set of icons but does not allow you to individually specify what icons to use for folders and file icons and what icons to use for the icons on the top launch panel that are on the right side of the panel by default like the Bluetooth Icon, UPS Battery status icon temperature and current condition icon in the calendar. Older versions of Ubuntu gave the user more control over how the launch panel looked, I thought I remembered an option to use 3-D icons on the launch panel in older versions of Ubuntu.
