Ubuntu :: Stop Mouse From Auto Clicking
Feb 5, 2010
I just installed 9.10 on my Gateway MD2614U and everything seems to be working but the mouse. Every now and then when i open places and hover over an item it brings it up without me clicking. It does it on other things too.

I had a problem a while back with hard freezes on my laptop, turned out the thermal paste between the CPU and heatsink was a small circle less than 1 cm across. A new coat of thermal paste fixed that, but talking with a local Linux geek, he said that it looks like the UHCI Host Controller has taken permanent damage, which might explain at least some of this problem.
I have a USB optical mouse. The last time I used it was on Fedora 10, shortly after Fedora 11 came out. Now I'm using Fedora 13, and all my other USB devices work fine (Cruzer Micro, Targus Numpad, Seagate external). The problem with the mouse is that after a little bit of use (usually 5-10 minutes) it starts rapidly clicking. On the desktop or in any program with highlighting (gedit, OpenOffice, etc) it does a perpetual click and drag. In GIMP it seems to just rapidly click (moving it fast enough will leave white space between colors). The only way to fix it is to pull the cable out, and then it usually doesn't work until after I reboot. I don't have any other USB mice around to test with, and money is a bit too tight right now to buy one, or else I would try that. The touchpad works flawlessly, but it doesn't have the fine control I need for most of the things I do.

I just reinstalled openSUSE 11.3 KDE 4.5, and my mouse pointer keeps auto-clicking. It's weird because it is not even happening 100% of the time, just _most_ of the time. I am using a touchpad, and I have disabled tapping.
I had this exact same issue with Kubuntu 10.10 yesterday before I removed it. I am currently on Windows 7 and all seems well, so it is probably is a Linux software issue.

I am using Ubuntu 9.10 x64 on an HP Pavillion, p6110y PC. Whenever I playback audio, and have not played audio for several seconds, I hear a clicking noise before the audio starts to play. I did not have this problem with Ubuntu 9.04 x64 on the same computer, and I think that PulseAudio is to blame, as usual. Does anyone have any advice as to how to stop this clicking noise? I found something that might be relevant to this issue: http://www.flibblesan.co.uk/2009/10/...-playback-bug/.

Some (not all) videos I have on my hard drive play video fine but have a loud and fast clicking sound for the audio. I have noticed the problem only on .avi files.
also, I am noticing that the picture on mp4 files is jittery and the video and audio slowly become more and more out of sync
This is happening on my Media Center running Boxee. When I run the same avi file from my PC it is perfect. MP$ files are still out of sync

I dont know why this is happening to me. Maybe it's because I have so many things running, but its mainly just browsers and stuff that hardly require cpu usage. Sometimes (and its getting worse now) when i try to highlight the text on a web page, it wont work, the mouse pointer will be the arrow instead of the "I" like symbol which signifies the possibility for text highlighting. Then after a little while it will become the "I" symbol so I can highlight the text. It will switch on and off like that and make it really hard for me to do things.
Also, sometimes I cannot scroll down, it wont work when i hold the side bar thing and scroll it down, but after a few seconds it may work. This happens on my browser as well as amarok so far. I hope someone has experienced something like this because its getting frustrating.
UPDATE: Happens on KMess too. I cant type in the convo box sometimes. So I have to minimize and maximize it in order for it to work. Also if I have a browser up in the background while a Kmess convo box is infront, I cant click to the browser when its right there, even though I can click on it in the taskbar, if you know what i mean.

some windows fail to react to my mouse clicks (left and right). This has been starting to happen more and more often. However, one window usually stays working normally, while all others fail. Usually, it's the gnome-panel, but one time, this happened to Firefox. During this, I discovered that clicking a window above firefox, would go through the window, and Firefox would recieve it instead, as if the window wasn't there. Even stranger, firefox was not the active window, and all keyboard and mouse commands were received perfectly, however, the window titlebar wouldn't darken as usual. I can still move the mouse around, but when I keep it still for a minute, I see "View your Appointments and Tasks", pop-up, but it sticks to the screen afterward. A reboot fixes this problem, but only for a while. his also occurs when booting from the live Ubuntu 10.10 i386 Desktop Edition CD. I'm using a Logitech Mouse, but I don't believe this has to do with hardware, since this doesn't happen on Windows.

Unfortunately, I've encountered a disaster the likes of which I've never seen before:Yesterday, in slackware 13.1, while using firefox, the window would no longer move or resize, and I could no longer click on things in that window. While this happens, the icons in xfce4 panel no longer acknowledge that the mouse is rolling over them, so I can't launch terminal from a panel, etc.; however I am still able to right click on desktop and open terminal and other apps that way.Since it was high time to upgrade to 13.37, and since I was experiencing weirdness, I decided to do a clean install: I actually repartitioned my drive, and reformatted the partitions (all xfs, and after backing up my data, of course)...
I don't know if that's significant, or not. there seems to be some lines in /var/log/Xorg.0.log about my logitech mouse.way too complicated to write by hand.I will log out and back on... sometimes that frees up other windows. Then I'll add the Xorg.0.log.

I was going through some settings and inadvertently changed the UID for my primary logon. I then realized what I did and changed it back and set the group back to my username.Since then, it only auto-logs in on startup. I cannot get it to prompt for a password again. I've tried normal things like changing "ask for password on login" and then changing it back, but that hasn't helped. I'm sure there's something else that I'm missing, but don't know what it is. Right now, it says "asked on login" but it doesn't.

I have one of those lovely Western Digital external hard drives and it seems to have an UDF "partition" on the hard drive itself. I cannot format it, remove it from the hard drive itself, or disabling the UDF seems to be a no go once its popped into a Linux distribution of any kind.
So my question is, is it possible to stop the UDF from even auto mounting at all?

When I use "Search for Files" in Ubuntu (9.1 and 10.04), sometimes the computer continues to search after I've double clicked one of the results, and it noticeably slows the launching of that file unless I immediately click "stop" on the search window

I already have two other threads open for a dysfunctional system. Thread 1: Boot hangs at logon sound - no video signal - appears drive is still working [URL]..Thread 2: Where are boot log files and how I can see those? [URL]...Basically both of those are for not able to complete the boot (hanging up in the middle of booting) in Karmic. I had Karmic since it came out but suddenly about two weeks ago just stopped booting. Except for the battery and resetting BIOS, I had checked all the hardware - and all appear to be okay. Following a tip from x1a4, I started looking into logs (admittedly not knowing exactly what I am looking for) and I ran into auth.log. Following is the code. The highlighted part is confusing (to me) and I am wondering if this may cause to stop booting (or completing the boot process) since I was using auto logon. I do not know if there is anything else (logs) you may need, please advise and I will provide those.

I am running openVPN to secure my wireless network traffic right now. Everything works great except every once in a while, my Internet connection will drop out for about a minute or so. Ubuntu very nicely tries to reconnect, and most of the time successfully does. The issue is that if I don't catch it every time this happens, I am now running without my VPN.
I want to know if there is any way to DISABLE auto-reconnect to a wireless network if connection is lost or signal fades.
Im running ubuntu 10.10 by the way

Sorry title should have been F13 installation without internet I am having a P4, 1GB ram, 80 GB machine. Since yesterday I am having some funny issues on this machine. i have fedora 12 installed on this machine.
My mouse suddenly stop working, or the cursor changes from pointer type to a line cursor and basicaly the mouse just stops clicking. I am plannning to install fedora 13 on this machine. Have downloaded the 5 iso (
CD images).
Would choosing the option upgrade on existing Linux partition do the job? Is there a chance I loose my data files when the upgrade is done? I dont want to reinstall programs like java, eclipse, tomcat etc that I done in fedora 12. I only intend using the CD's as I dont have a lot of bandwidth and a fast internet connection to use yum.

when i click my mouse on something, it sometimes registers as two clicks. it doesn't happen all the time, but frequently enough to be annoying. for example, when i click a videos video to pause it, it often opens into fullscreen (which you normally click twice to do). also, in the url bar of chromium, i can't select the entire url by clicking. i now need to use ctrl+a. that's also because when i try to select the url, the highlight randomly disappears.
if i have multiple windows open, my click on the first "x" of the top-most window also closes the next window. i'm on linux mint 10. it's not really important, but it drives me crazy sometimes when my mouse doesn't work the way i want it to.

Is there any way to stop Rhythmbox from clearing a song from the Play Queue once it has played it?
I searched the forums and haven't found a solution. This question had been raised before, but there was no answer given (the guy who responded confused 'playlist' with 'play queue').
Basically, whenever I queue up files to play in Rhythmbox's Play Queue (and i prefer to use that, since I operate it via Gnome-Do), they are auto-cleared as soon as I have finished playing them. I'd like to stop Rhythmbox from clearing them as I like to put them on repeat.

I have two devices (a usb modem and a camera) permanently hard-wired into my system. When linux boots, it automatically inserts their drivers. However, I would like this to be under my control to insert as and when needed. Can anyone give any pointers as to how I might disable auto-insertion, whilst still allowing manual insertion via insmod or modprobe? I understand the usual method would be to use modules.conf, however in my modules.conf file, there is no entries at all.

I am running 9.10 (Karmic) on a Compaq Presario CQ60 laptop with Nvidia graphics. I have installed the -185 driver which has solved most problems. However every so often the system seems to lose track of the mouse button state. The first symptom of this is that all mouse movements on text are treated as if the left button is being held down: mouse movement selects text rather than just moving the graphics cursor. I am using a M$ optical mouse.
I have tried:unplugging and replugging the mouse using Ctl-Alt-F1 to go into a console and Ctl-Alt-F7 to go back to the GUI I am able to shut down all of the open windows normally using the keyboard, but the only way I have so far found to get the GUI working again is to reboot the system.

I was having a problem with the mouse and keyboard randomly failing to work after upgrading to version 10.04. I tried both the 32 and 64 bit versions. The problem went away after I edited the file /etc/default/grub and changed the following line:
from
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash"
to
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash noapic nolapic"
If you are unable to open a terminal window, try doing the following
Ctrl+Alt+F1
Log into you account.
sudo nano /etc/default/grub
After saving your changes and exiting nano you can reboot by using the halt command.(FYI Ctrl+Alt+F7 gets you back into X server -- but you need to reboot for the change to take effect) Update: problem recurred. I had to do Ctrl+Alt+F1 to log into a console. I executed 'ps aux | more' to find the PID for X.Using the PID I restart X with 'sudo kill -S SIGTERM <PID>'.Once it started up again it was fine.

I am on a Fedora 12 box, and it's my job to do some custom configs to xorg.conf. To start this, I have to remove a bunch of devices' entries and modify others. We're using the proprietary Nvidia drivers, and they work fine except that something - perhaps the NVIDIA X Server Settings app - keeps modifying the xorg.conf. After I write a change to see if it will work or break the machine, I have to restart the entire computer, as restarting X by itself blanks out the monitor so that I can't even see a virtual console. After the restart, X starts just fine and goes into GNOME, but as soon as I look at the xorg.conf, everything I've removed or commented out from the original, auto-generated file has reappeared. How to stop this infuriating behavior so that I can rewrite xorg.conf and make the changes stick?

I have to press and hold the connection button under the mouse and reconnect to the mouse. The mouse says that it is linux compatible, so I guess its a problem with my bluetooth drivers.

I have Debian Squeeze AMD64 bit release. It finds my wired ethernet connection and ues itfine, although nothing shows up in the top right corner under the networking icon.
When I plug my mobile phone in (HTC S620) it always uses this as the main internet connection and then even if disconnected wont use my wired connection until I reboot.
Is there a way to stop it doing this or at least have my wired connction as an option so I can just click to reconnect to my ethernet connection?
