I just reinstalled openSUSE 11.3 KDE 4.5, and my mouse pointer keeps auto-clicking. It's weird because it is not even happening 100% of the time, just _most_ of the time. I am using a touchpad, and I have disabled tapping.
I had this exact same issue with Kubuntu 10.10 yesterday before I removed it. I am currently on Windows 7 and all seems well, so it is probably is a Linux software issue.
I just installed 9.10 on my Gateway MD2614U and everything seems to be working but the mouse. Every now and then when i open places and hover over an item it brings it up without me clicking. It does it on other things too.
View 2 Replies View RelatedNo matter what kernel I select to boot into, eventually I lose the mouse pointer visibility. If I move the mouse around, stuff does get highlighted, I just can't see the pointer as it moves. CTRL/ALT/BKSP does bring up a logout menu (doesn't kill X, tho), and I can tab thru it...time wasting, although it does come back from a restart with all the windows as before.
I'm running Gnome. Cpu is AMD Athelon 64 3800+ OS is 32 bit. I didn't normally have this problem before. Do I need to return to 11.0 ? Is this a Gnome problem or an X problem. I seem to remember that KDE4 had a utility that would grab the pointer from the ether and stick it back on the screen
I'm using 11.2 > Gnome When I (re)login to the desktop there is no mouse pointer, however the mouse is working. Hover shows emphasis and I can click once hovered. I have to go into Configure Display Settings on the Display icon in the panel and hit Apply. That restores the pointer itself. No changes, just Apply. The login screen has a mouse. Mouse Properties > (all tabs) are all default values. The mouse works perfectly other than that.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI'm experiencing random lockups. There are 2 types.1st time this happened when I enabled Kwin compositing effects. The screen turned black and it froze, the mouse pointer froze. Nothing would move. 5 Minutes later I just hard reset the Laptop. I was afraid something could be corrupted as it was shutdown in a bad way. On boot up Kwin's compositing effects were in place.Randomly working on the laptop, everything will freeze except the mouse pointer. This happens like once in a while though.I have a feeling this has something to do with my Dell Studio 1555 Intel GM4500 MHD graphics.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI installed Suse 11.2 recently, and i have my laptop hooked up to a HD monitor.
When i choose the HD monitor, if the resolution is low, lets say 1280x800, same as my laptop, its fine. I see the mouse pointer.
But as soon as i change the resolution to 1920x1080, the pointer disappears. Mouse functionality works allright. Right click/left click works fine, and i can see the buttons getting highlighted on mouse-ever.
But the pointer is gone.
When computer idles for 20 minutes & I return, the cursor is completely gone & cannot be retrieved, though the mouse looks like it is working, just no cursor. Also my monitor keeps changing parameters, I tried to set Sax2 but it won't save changes? What do I do? I didn't notice the cursor thing until I set up the screensaver to go off at 6 minutes.

I can boot in failsafe fine, but the graphics are horrible. My question is, is there a workaround or am I flogging a dead horse with this laptop? This is my first venture into Linux, and I was really keen on leaving windows far behind. I've tried quite a few sax2 commands to no avail.

I changed it in the settings/themes thing like you are supposed to, but it appears to only take effect in Mozilla.needs the larger mouse pointer for the entire system. Evolution appears to completely ignore the mouse theme settings.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have Open Suse 11.3. I normally use GNOME or KDE sessions. Yesterday I was just thought of trying other Desktop Environments. so I logged out to choose a different session. I tried LXDE and logged back out. After that I found "metacity" in the sessions list and tried it. But no desktop appeared. All I got is black screen a with the mouse pointer/cursor. I waited for quite some time but no desktop, panel, etc loaded or was visible.
I could not figure out how to log off so I hit the start button. After reboot the system automatically chose the same session (It always reuses the last used session) and I was in the same sticky situation. I tried starting in Safe mode as well but still I get the same black screen with just the mouse pointer.
I am creating an openSUSE 11.2 Kiosk image. I have everything pretty much locked down but when I go into the gconf-editor under /apps/nautilius/preferences/show_desktop and uncheck the check box my mouse pointer changes to the circle icon that looks like it moves in a circle. Sortta like the busy or what it does during boot. Hard to describe by typing it out but if you make that change you'll see what I am talking about. I had this setup like this in previous versions of openSUSE so I am not sure what it is doing or what else I need to do to make the mouse pointer just the arrow like normally. I don't want the users to be able to right-click on the desktops to get a menu nor add icons so unchecking the show_desktop has served my needs.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI just installed Ubuntu 10.10 on my HP Pavilion a320n computer with a ps2 mouse and the mouse pointer points with the bottom of the mouse and not the upper tip of the point. It does the same thing with Ubuntu 10.04.1. In Windows 7 and XP the mouse is normal. I don't know how I could adjust it or is this just a bug in the OS?

From System->Preferences->Mouse, I set the various mouse Pointer Speed acceleration and Sensitivity to Slow, Fast, Low, High, and and I couldn't get it any better. I had a problem a while back with hard freezes on my laptop, turned out the thermal paste between the CPU and heatsink was a small circle less than 1 cm across. A new coat of thermal paste fixed that, but talking with a local Linux geek, he said that it looks like the UHCI Host Controller has taken permanent damage, which might explain at least some of this problem.
I have a USB optical mouse. The last time I used it was on Fedora 10, shortly after Fedora 11 came out. Now I'm using Fedora 13, and all my other USB devices work fine (Cruzer Micro, Targus Numpad, Seagate external). The problem with the mouse is that after a little bit of use (usually 5-10 minutes) it starts rapidly clicking. On the desktop or in any program with highlighting (gedit, OpenOffice, etc) it does a perpetual click and drag. In GIMP it seems to just rapidly click (moving it fast enough will leave white space between colors). The only way to fix it is to pull the cable out, and then it usually doesn't work until after I reboot. I don't have any other USB mice around to test with, and money is a bit too tight right now to buy one, or else I would try that. The touchpad works flawlessly, but it doesn't have the fine control I need for most of the things I do.

I dont know why this is happening to me. Maybe it's because I have so many things running, but its mainly just browsers and stuff that hardly require cpu usage. Sometimes (and its getting worse now) when i try to highlight the text on a web page, it wont work, the mouse pointer will be the arrow instead of the "I" like symbol which signifies the possibility for text highlighting. Then after a little while it will become the "I" symbol so I can highlight the text. It will switch on and off like that and make it really hard for me to do things.
Also, sometimes I cannot scroll down, it wont work when i hold the side bar thing and scroll it down, but after a few seconds it may work. This happens on my browser as well as amarok so far. I hope someone has experienced something like this because its getting frustrating.
UPDATE: Happens on KMess too. I cant type in the convo box sometimes. So I have to minimize and maximize it in order for it to work. Also if I have a browser up in the background while a Kmess convo box is infront, I cant click to the browser when its right there, even though I can click on it in the taskbar, if you know what i mean.

View 2 Replies View Relatedi have many mouse pointers in the .ico also .ani and .cur format from my old windows days SEE image attached would also like to make new ones and really want to turn them into a format which works on ubuntu since the choice of pointers is only 6 i found a way to install X11 cursors from gnome-look.org download then save to .icons in the hidden part (control H) of my home folder then go system/preference/appearance/customize/pointers
but even then you have to install a whole lot of files to change one pointer and i see no way of making/installing my own is there a more straightforward way? ubuntu/linux are about freedom and here i am at the moment very restricted

I used UBUNTU 9.10 with no problem on 3 of my computers. I tried to use UBUNTU 11.04 and with one of my old laptops I face a problem with the mouse pointer. I can not see the mouse pointer. The mouse seems to work, but since I can not see the mouse pointer, its impossible to upgrade to UBUNTU 11.04 the same problem with UBUNTU 10,04 but no problem with UBUNTU 9.10.(My laptop is Fujitsu Siemens Amilo)

View 2 Replies View Relatedsome windows fail to react to my mouse clicks (left and right). This has been starting to happen more and more often. However, one window usually stays working normally, while all others fail. Usually, it's the gnome-panel, but one time, this happened to Firefox. During this, I discovered that clicking a window above firefox, would go through the window, and Firefox would recieve it instead, as if the window wasn't there. Even stranger, firefox was not the active window, and all keyboard and mouse commands were received perfectly, however, the window titlebar wouldn't darken as usual. I can still move the mouse around, but when I keep it still for a minute, I see "View your Appointments and Tasks", pop-up, but it sticks to the screen afterward. A reboot fixes this problem, but only for a while. his also occurs when booting from the live Ubuntu 10.10 i386 Desktop Edition CD. I'm using a Logitech Mouse, but I don't believe this has to do with hardware, since this doesn't happen on Windows.

My wife and I have matching HP EliteBook 8730w "mobile workstations" (laptops that need a donkey to move them). We also have matching LG second screens. Unfortunately, we have matching mouse pointer issues too, as you might expect.
99% of the time we work away without issue. 1% of the time, Fedora suddenly stops showing the mouse pointer in the separate LG screen. The pointer is there, you can use it (if you can guess where the hell it is!) but you can't see it. Only a reboot seems to solve the problem.
It's worth noting xorg.conf is not being used. It's an nVidia card in these laptops and I tried the latest drivers from them - they totally wiped out the display, I mean total FAIL, unusable. Had to boot up in without GNOME, run level 3, to fix it. After much messing around, I think I used the FirstAidKit plugin for xserver to repair things. Since then there is no xorg.conf:

If I restore *any* xorg.conf file it all goes wrong again, so I'm guessing there are either some defaults at play or there's another system currently managing my display. Either way, restoring/editing xorg.conf won't help me with the current set-up.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI've just installed Ubuntu 9.10 on my wife's old notebook, a Sony Vaio PCG-FX705, by wiping the HDD (i.e. no more Windows ). The problem is that there's some weird display error that reminds of a TFT with pixel errors, although that's no the cause. I got a screenshot of it here (made with a digicam), and here is a close-up of it.
One thing I've noticed is that this error starts at the mouse pointer's tip and goes right when the computer is booted. Also, when using Blank Screen as screensaver, the error disappears once the screen went blank until I press a key or move the mouse, at which point the error will re-appear at the mouse pointer's current location. The only way I found so far to temporarily fix this problem is to change display resolution. It doesn't matter which resolution I use, all that matters is that I change it.
My mouse pointer goes from regular white pointer when on the desktop / app bar, to the black oxygen theme cursor when on a web browser or nautilus when hovering over the |-|+|x| boxes.

Does anyone have any suggestions?
I'm using the control key to locate my mouse pointer and that is very slow and annoying.
Was it something I downloaded?
I just installed Kubuntu on my machine, but on returning to gde I still have the oxy-white pointer from kde. I went to preferences>appearance>themes>customize>pointer, and changed it back to DMZ White, yet the pointer still looks like oxy-white. I tried it with all of the different pointer options, but none of them will override oxy-white.
View 9 Replies View RelatedAt links the mouse pointer disappears within Internet Explorer 6.0. I just updated to the latest version of ubuntu which run like a charm. This problem however is annoying.I can press Ctrl to see the pointer but the fact is it should never disappear.
I do have problems with the graphics (Intel 4500) which sometimes at reproducable cases stops responding. (When trying to update graphically and having to answer a question in a child window to the main window). Is this problem a wine setting or something with x11 or compiz or ?
