I was playing around with the settings of my Mint 7 terminal, changing colors, fonts etc.After closing, I tried to open it again by clicking on the icon and it shutsdown as soon as it opens. I can't do anything since the preferences require me to have my terminal open in the first place.
View 6 RepliesI have this weird problem; When I change the monitor preferences in the 'System > Preferences > Monitors' dialog, the colors and fonts of much of the text on the screen get messed up. The issue is best seen in the attached figure. All applications seems to run as normal, and there is no other trouble than the visual.
It happens in the moment i hit apply. It happens every single time. The desired changes is applied as they should. To turn my PC back to normal I have to restart it, and then it will start again with the new settings without any problems at all.
The problem occurred for the first time yesterday. I think it may have to do with some updates (advised updates through Update Manager) I have done lately (I tend to mindlessly install most updates). Other than that I have no idea what is causing the problem.
Have anybody experienced a similar problem? Does anybody have a clue of what is causing it, and what I can do to solve the problem? PS: I am running Ubuntu 10.10 32bit on a 5 year old Dell Inspiron 630m.
I did something weird and now my text size is like 3pt on every system window, but when I go in and change my window fonts to larger to something that looks normal, it makes my clock, bash, and other fonts absolutely gigantic. Is there any way I can just roll back my system and it's settings? It wouldn't be much bother as I installed the OS yesterday. I'd hate to have to reinstall entirely though

Some friends told me to try OpenSUSE because it has really been polished over the last few years.Install went smoothly got everything working properly except for my video card. My video card is an ATI HD4890 with sound support over HDMI. I had the sound working in Ubuntu using the non-oss ATI drivers. I was wondering if someone could please teach me how to install them again here on OpenSUSE 11.3. My screen fonts and colors also look terrible compared to Windows or Ubuntu.
Is there a way I can make it look better? I remember CCC (Catalyst Control Center for ATI) had two color formats (RGB and YCbCr). I had to set it to YCbCr because my screen is an HDTV and it looked much cleaner than RGB. Is there a way I can acheive similar results with OpenSUSE?
is everytime i reboot , my keyboard is reset to USA. im in canada & it pisses me off each time i need to change it also.all my options on EMESENE is the same issue always RESET.it's like if nothing keeps the changes once rebooted.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm using a dark theme (Obsidian Coast) which is making things a pain to read using the default LaTeX syntax highlighting and color schema of Kate. I can edit the schema just fine, but that does not affect the colors of certain highlighting features, such as the color of expressions which fill in the ellipses of "section{...}", which turn out black or "egin{...}" which turn out dark blue.
Is there any way to fine-tune the highlighting features of a particular kind of markup (LaTeX in my case)?
The Linux mint terminal has green and blue for the prompt. How do I make the Ubuntu terminal look like the Linux mint Terminal? I have looked at the color settings under the Terminal profile preferences and I do not see that setting available there.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI am trying to use the ncurses library for a little side project and am currently trying to display text with varying colors on the screen. I would like for my program to be able to change the hues of the default colors(e.g. make red a little dark, blue a little lighter, etc).
However, according to the ncurses function can_change_color() my terminal does not allow for colors to be altered. I know how to change the palette of colors that my terminal is using but I was wondering if there was a way to allow my colors to be "editable" in a sense.
My terminal is Gnome 2.30.2 and I'm running Ubuntu 10.04LTS

I have been searching the internet far and wide today looking for ways to do this. I have tried all the ways I could find: edit .bsrc file, edit DIR_COLORS, edit DIR_COLORS.xterm, create .dircolors, edit etc/profile, edit .cshrc file, alias ls --colors, and all combinations of this. I can't figure out what I am doing wrong.I use su in my terminal I get the colors for ls. So there must be something up with my user profile? I have tried to edit my terminal profiles and my desktop themes neither worked. Please help! I know this is a trivial issue, but now I am on a mission to figure this out.

I can't change fonts with lxappearance, it's always stuck on Helvetica 8 after I close lxappearance. I can't change from gtkrc-2.0 or gtkrc.mine either, it won't use the new font.

View 5 Replies View RelatedAfter removing a hard drive I (thought I)wasn't using, GRUB failed to load(turns out stage1 was on that drive) and it refused to install to a new drive(even after I kexec'd into the system - which was fun, considering the LiveCD used a different name for the hard drive). I finally threw in the towel and installed GRUB2, which worked after removing a second, incorrect root=. However, I can't find out how to switch the font from the fugly default to something that doesn't try to gauge my eyes out with a rusty spoon.

I have looked at a few Linux based OS's. I did notice that when you install fedora live desktop it gives you the option to connect to one of the above. So I am looking for a complete solution.
1. How to setup fedora to act as server for my needs (or other Linux build)
2. Add fedora/linux mint machines to server to use new security settings. (or other linux build)
When I increase the font size from Konqueror settings the web browser fonts change but the file manager fonts stay the same. Is there another way of setting them?

How can I get these mic's to work w/o having to change the settings each time I want to switch mic's.. so that if the mic jack is plugged in, then the external mic works. and if the mic jack is unplugged, then the built in mic works.
I was configuring the vnc server or remote desktop using the "gconf-editor" -- "desktop - gnome - remote_access" pane, and first I clicked on "disable background" to see if it was usefull or not to disable it (in terms of speed). It worked fine but sometimes when closing the connection, the background refuses to reenable, mantaining the black background...
That's ok, I decided to disable the feature and share via vnc the background as it is a wired net and I do not really need this feature.
My surprise is that now, whith the feature DISABLE (box unchecked), I cannot set a background, it is always black and I find no way to go back in this...
is this common, or something that can be "easily" fixed?
