Dec 21, 2010I want to let xpdf handle it in its own window, and not firefox. in the firefox preferences tab, I have set pdf content to always ask, yet still firefox opens pdf itself.

General :: Why Dose VLC Player Open When Open Documents
Feb 19, 2011I have Ubuntu 10.10. I have installed VLC video player. When I go to places, and then hit Documents, or(music, pictures, downloads). It will open the VLC player with a pop up error.
Error Message when I hit Documents:
No suitable decoder module:
VLC does not support the audio or video format "undf". Unfortunately there is no way for you to fix this.

But it open's up the same song all the time.

I just opens up like it's suppose to!
I was trying to make it my default player. All I did was right mouse click on my folders, but I remember selecting anything!
When I un-install VLC player everything works fine.

Apr 11, 2011I am facing a severe problem on many Desktop PC's, whenever an employee is working in Gnome-Open-Office.org document (i.e. Wordprocessor, SpreadSheet, or any other Gnome-office application) and due to power outage after restarting, the previously open document either does not open or it shows a recovery dialogue after clicking on recovery button or clicking on cancel in either case document contain nothing (empty). The file size of the document is either 0kb or within few Kbs range.
Any one have any idea about it ? what to do ?? or any other alternative which is already tested in such environment (i.e. electricity failure )? or any options to be turned on/changed?

Mar 1, 2011I am running fluxbox on Arch Linux. When using chromium, I would like associate .doc(x), .ppt(x), etc. with libreoffice by default. If I try to click on the file once it has downloaded in chromium (on bar at bottom) if i add "libreoffice:" to the end of the list of browsers it works like I would like it to.This is obviously not the best method (I am not even certain why it is trying to open the file from other browsers, xdg-open file is quite intimidating)

It's not a "Deal-Breaker" with me deciding between Ubuntu 11.04 Classic and Kubuntu 11.04, but it's kind of annoying. How do I change it to my home directory *I.E /home/theif519* instead of /home/theif519/Doc* ?
Is there a file I have to edit or something?

Dec 18, 2010I can access my windows my documentsmusic by mounting my windows drive and browsing to it. I can then playwatch my movies and pics in Ubuntu.But what I really want to be able to do is re-map the Ubunbu docs folder like so:
Ubuntu Pics = Windows My Documents pics.
Ubuntu Videos = Windows My Documents Videos.
I'm not very unix savy so I've been using Ubuntu tweak PersonalDefault Folder Locations setting and browsing to my Windows folders. But it doesn't work.I have managed to make a desktop 'short cut' and that works but I'd rather set the system wide default document folders.

Dec 25, 2009How can I change the mountpoint of my partition /media/documents to /documents.This is a partition of sdb and a fixed disk.The reason is that /media/ sometimes creates ghostdirectories while /Windows/C never does so, programmes writing/reading from this partition therfore don't work if a ghostdir_ exists.(BTW Suse is on sdb5 and sdb6. on sda is windows and used to be Ubuntu, the Suse-swap is sda5. Windows is out of use.)

When I try to open any nfs-mounted file using OpenOffice, I get a pop-up window titled "Document in Use". The text of the message is:
"Document file 'abcde.odt' is locked for editing by:
Unknown User
Open document read-only or open a copy of the document for editing." I then have three options - <Open Read-Only>, <Open Copy>, & <Cancel> If I cp any of these files from the mounted directory to my home dir (not mounted), I can open them without problem.Also, my firefox & thunderbird date are in this mounted directory as well (sym links to ~dan/.mozilla & ~dan/.thunderbird). Both of these apps hang when trying to open, leaving two processes behind that need to be manually killed. Again, cp'ing the data out of the nfs-mounted dir onto a local dir resolves the issue, so I am 100% confident there is nothing missing or corrupted in the firefox &/or thunderbird data...

server:/nfs/dan/Documents /home/dan/Documents nfs defaults 0 0
relevant entry in server's /etc/exports:

Nov 29, 2010I installed the add-on Greasemonkey for Firefox and since then firefox won't open. If I try to open it on safe mode nothing comes up, it I try it a secont time it tells me that Firefox is already running and if I try to open it normally it shows it on the bottom as if it was opening and then it dissapears.

Mar 28, 2011I just found out about Libre Office. I am currently using Open Office on my Netbook (ubuntu 10.10), and NeoOffice on my Macbook (OS/X 10.6.7).
QUESTION: I have some backups using these formats: .sdw, and .odt. Can Libre Office read documents saved in these (StarOffice / Open Office) formats?
FWIW: I would have preferred to use OO on both machines, but unfortunately OO never fixed a problem with printing envelopes in the Macintosh version. Hence my use of NeoOffice.

Linux with Firefox In order to connect to a network share directly from you browser under Linux, you must configure Firefox to handle URL's starting with "smb://". This is done by typing "about:config" in the address line and hitting return. After that you must right-click the list of settings and choose "New -> Boolean" as shown below.

Jul 19, 2011I am using Ubuntu 11.04 with Unity and ever since one of the system upgrades a few weeks ago I have not been able to open firefox. If I click on the firefox icon on the side launcher, the icon flashes as if it is opening but firefox never opens. I also tried clicking on the icon from dash and nothing happens. The only way i can open firefox is if i open the terminal and type the firefox command.
In Gnome i have the same problem: I can only launch firefox from the terminal. When I click the icon on the top panel, or when I go to Applications->Internet->Firefox, I get the following error message:
Could not launch application. Failed to execute child process "LD_PRELOAD=/usr/lib/libGL.so.1" (No such file or directory)
Does anyone have an idea of how I can fix this?
