Ubuntu :: Reset The Dpkg - Config Box Locked The Apt-get
Apr 6, 2010
I just bumped into somewhat embarassing error, and i cannot find any way to get rid of it. I was installing postgresql-common from the ubuntu repos. The blue configuration box appeared in the terminal i was using (blue configuration tool with the red scrollbar on the right). The thing is, there is nothing i can do with this box (clicking <OK> on the bottom, keybord shortcuts, i tried everything). After a while i just rebooted the terminal and started all over again. I recieved an error "dpkg was interrupted, you must manually run 'dpkg --configure -a' to correct the problem." Running dpkg configure command results in resuming postgresql installation and the blue box of death.
Now the apt-get is useless for all the users on my machine, and 1st core of my CPU is used in 100% all the time. How can i reset the dpkg?
I recentled upgraded all the packages on my server and now I have an issue where I can't get any thing to install or uninstall do to errors, This is what I get:
In 9.10 after kernel update there was always prompt window if i want to do changes in grub config file. In 10.04 there's no such question and every time i do update i have to edit my grub config file in order to get rid of older kernels and set windows as second position in boot menu. why does it happen and how to stop updates overwrite my grub config?
I powered up my 2nd monitor in 10.10, and the screen was a mirror to the first.I'll fix this, thought I.unchecked 'mirror' in monitor dialog, and the bit about the virtual thing sounded good, then I rebooted into a horror I haven't felt since MSWindows days.
I keep getting this error when I try to install Adobe flash player E: dpkg was interrupted, you must manually run 'sudo dpkg --configure -a' to correct the problem. E: _cache->open() failed, please report. I had it installed just fine, then i restarted my computer and its gone. .
I'm using 10.10 and from today I'm getting this error Quote:dpkg was interrupted, you must manually run 'sudo dpkg --configure -a' to correct the problem. When I'm trying to install any software using
Code: sudo apt-get <sw-name> Also I'm unable install using "Ubuntu Software Center", showing unhandleable error. Here is the details: Traceback (most recent call last): File "/usr/lib/python2.6/dist-packages/aptdaemon/worker.py", line 769, in simulate return self._simulate_helper(trans, status_path)
I'm having some issues building deb packages. dh_make --createorig behaves as expected, but when I attempt to buld the package with dpkg-buildpackage -rfakeroot the build dies on a dpkg-source error.
After I got the OS up and running (v9.10), I was prompted to download and install some updates. The download is complete, but when I try to install the updates, I receive the following message. What should I do?
E: dpkg was interrupted, you must manually run 'sudo dpkg --configure -a' to correct the problem. E: _cache->open() failed, please report.
When I tried to upgrade my xubuntu 10.04 , I got this error
dpkg: parse error, in file '/var/lib/dpkg/available' near line 2 package 'x11proto-core-dev': value for `status' field not allowed in this context E: Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (2)
I installed the software Ubuntu Tweak yesterday and I was satisfied of how it worked. today, surfing the internet I was hoping to find a solution to a couple of problems that I have: the computer sometimes get stuck when opening videos or photos - I can't see streaming TV. when the internet browser was asking me to install plug-in in order to show the videos I tried to install them but errors occurred.
so I followed the instruction in [URL] (many of these things didn't work and the terminal was showing error messages...) now after rebooting I have got the unity 2D I think (which is fine as I can't notice great differences) but I can't install the updates from Ubuntu Tweak the error message is: E: dpkg was interrupted, you must manually run 'sudo dpkg --configure -a' to correct the problem. E: _cache->open() failed, please report. how can I fix it and get my video codecds?
I'm trying to update Kubuntu 11.04 here is my error: p, li {white-space: pre-wrap;} E: dpkg was interrupted, you must manually run 'dpkg --configure -a' to correct the problem. here is what i have tried to fix it:
I want to install gcc on my Pyramid linux which is debian based. I downloaded gcc.deb. When I want to install this file, it gives me "dpkg command not found" error! I also get this error when I want to install other .deb files using dpkg command " dpkg -i finename.deb. I did some research and it seams that I should install package on my system, but package file is .deb file and I can't install .deb file! What should I do to solve the problem??? Should I install any thing on my system to install .deb files??
when i try to use apt an error occurs: dpkg: parse error, in file '/var/lib/dpkg/status' near line 27317 package 'virtualbox-3.0': error in Version string `3.0.4-50677_Debian_lenny': invalid character in revision number E: Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (2)
i tried to :
1- replace the file status with status-old 2- replace it with all the backups located in /var/backups/
I'm unable to reset using either the reset option in gnome shell or the command using a terminal. When I select it the shell exits and displays the graphic "exploding" and then it just sits there. Shutdown works fine; just no reset. Any ideas? I've installed from the DVD. I booted the live CD and it resets just fine so I know it's no my hardware
I'm running Ubuntu Server 11.04 with OpenSSH, trying to create an ssh tunnel (for web traffic) to it from my (also Ubuntu) laptop. This is the command I'm using to create the tunnel:
Code: ssh -ND localhost:8080 george@192.168.1.20 I had it all working on a virtual machine.. which was deleted What settings/lines do I need to change/add from the default OpenSSH config files to get tunnelling to work? I've Googled and AllowTcpForwarding is set to yes, as is X11Forwarding.. but it still doesn't work. Chrome can connect to the server, but says the connection was closed before any data was sent.
I am running a server with a GRSecurity patched Kernel 2.6.32.36. I've tried to optimize the kernel as much as I can and know it (removing options, not needed drivers and so on) and compiled the modules into the kernel (no loadable modules anymore). I've started with Slackware 13.0 and the default config for 2.6.29.6-huge. Still I am not sure what to remove/optimize further now.
My question: Is there a way to boot with a kernel with loadable modules, check which modules are really needed for this hardware, (do something like lsmod) and save the running configuration modules for a next kernel compile to be the default .config instead of writing them down by hand and search for the appropriate names in .config or during menuconfig? (Note: zcat /proc/config.gz > .config is NOT the way I want, as it gives me just the current kernel config)
When I install the FC11 by using"Install or upgrade an existing system"or"Install system with basic video driver"mode...Point 1, I can't config the network config ( IP Address ), due to theerror of network manager...Point 2, I can't enter into the text mode to do the installation steps.Remark:The machine is provide Web,DNS, and Mail Server on the NET ( Internet )
I installed a 8.04 server operating system on a machine and wanted to explore gbindadmin so I used apt-get to download and install ubuntu-desktop. After the downloads completed the packages began installing and the system crashed. When I rebooted the system started on tty1 again and I tried apt-get install again. I received and error directing me to run "dpkg --configure -a" and when I did that the install resumed again. However part way through error messages started flying after each package saying they could not be configured and the install aborted. I shut if of, walked away for a bit, and when I rebooted gnome's login screen came up. I tried logging in and it failed, and I can't switch to any other TTY. I can however get in using gnome's failsafe terminal. I tried dpkg --configure -a again and the failures start with saying /var/run/dbus does not exsist and cannot be configured. I tried (on a whim) dpkg --configure dbus and recieved:
Code: setting up dbus (1.1.20-1ubuntu3.3) Warning: The home dir /var/run/dbus you specified can't be accessed: No such file or directory The user 'messagebus' already exsists. Exiting. chown: cannot accesss '/var/run/dbus': No such file or directory dpkg: error processing dbus (--configure): subprocess post-installation script returned error exit status 1 Errors were encountered while processing:
Now I find myself locked out of SSH! I have another SSH user and I logged in on him but he doesn't have permission to chown the file back! I also tried using su root -c but it is rejecting my root password as if it is invalid, but I know it is valid! I have 2 root accounts on the system and both return "invalid passwords" ever since I chowned the damn file..Does anyone know what I can do? I am very far from the server I must be able to do it remotely. Maybe a server reboot will help?
Is there any way to make this: sudo dpkg -i *.deb Also install dependencies for a deb file in the same way as GDebi does? Basically I have the above in a script, which I can right click in any folder and have it automatically install all debs in it. So much easier and quicker than using GDebi for each one. However, as of now, it doesn't seem to be installing dependencies, and causes broken packages.
i am getting this error after executing a command..i think my ubuntu is lacking some of the packages..can anybody tell me how to fix it..here is the description-->
$ apt-get source smplayer Reading package lists... Done Building dependency tree
Every time I run "apt-get" or "apt-get autoremove" terminal-commands lately, I see this:
Code:
Do you want to continue [Y/n]? y (Reading database ... dpkg: warning: files list file for package `mythtv-theme-metallurgy' missing, assuming package has no files currently installed. (Reading database ... 10%
My dpkg command is corrupted. When I run command "dpkg -s packagename" I'd get error, "dpkg: /lib/libc.so.6: version `GLIBC_2.8' not found (required by dpkg)". This is a production system so I have to be careful in resolving it. I'm concerned that other packages may be broken due to the missing libc.
