Ubuntu :: Receiving A Notification Which Reads "ur Browser Has Been Updated And Needs To Be Restarted..."
Mar 16, 2010
I am receiving a notification which reads "ur browser has been updated and needs to be restarted". Its poping up again and again,am not able to stop it.
I just installed Xubuntu 10.04 from CD on my old old computer (specs in sig). It was working swell and then I realized Update Manager was asking for updates. I agreed to all except for the CUPS and printer stuff as I haven't configured my pain in the *** Canon network printer yet.Anyway. Updated that. Requested a restart.I restarted.Next time it booted, it booted into command line Ubuntu 10.04, not Xubuntu as I had installed before. Oh and there was no GUI, just command line as I said before.
Since I am pretty noob, it would be quicker for me to make another install than to try to figure out what to do. I reinstalled Xubuntu 10.04 and all is well. During the reinstall, in the partition section, it was confirmed that Ubuntu 10.04 was installed.
i got the network up and running and I can see the ubuntu machine from my mac and when I first did it I could see the mac from the ubuntu machine. Now I've restarted the ubuntu machine and I can't see the mac. but i can still see th ubuntu machine.
My network connection is working as I'm using it to access the internet...
I'm on 9.10 and I use huludesktop often to watch my Hulu queue. Every once in a while (and more so lately) the video freeze and the sound stutters. I then find that pulseaudio is taking 100% of a CPU (I have a quad core AMD 64bit machine). Killing pulseaudio causes huludesktop to continue without sound and a new pulseaudio starts up. I have to kill huludesktop and resume playback and then everything's OK, until it happens again.
I have finally successfully triple-booted Snow Leopard, Windows XP, and Ubuntu 10 on an iMac but I have 1 problem: Whenever I am in Ubuntu and select "Restart," it goes to the splash screen and loads 2 of the dots and then freezes and hangs there forever. If I do "Shutdown," it works properly. Note: I am using rEFIt as the triple boot loader. GRUB installed on sda3 with Ubuntu.
I have been running some stuff for a number of weeks on my computer at work and last night it seems to have restarted itself meaning part of the stuff has been lost.
Below is the part of the syslog file when it seems to have happened, is there anything else where I can look for evidence on the computer for reasons as to why it restarted coded...
So the computer starts again at 05:10:42? How can I find out why as I don't want it to happen again?
I'm running Ubuntu 9.10 in a dual boot alongside Windows vista on an HP DV6000 laptop. It's been running smoothly for months. No problems.Today, I was in Ubuntu, and the Update Manager asked me to update (ok) and then said it needed to restart. I hit the restart now button and the system started to shut down, but never fully shut down. It's in a kind of loop, trying to start up, but not going all the way, and then shuts down again.I did a hard reboot but still nothing - the same loop. I don't even see my HP startup screen, nor can I access the BIOS, much less Grub.I put in the Ubuntu startup CD and it tries to read from that at startup, but then fails and returns to the same loop.
I've done some searching around but can't find anything conclusive on this error. The tech at my remote site restarted the 9.04 server(not sure if it was accidental or planned) and when it started the boot process, an error like the following shows up...
"The display server has restarted 6 times in the past 90 seconds. This indicates that something bad is happening."
Installed OS, it told me I should install nVidia drivers. I told it to go ahead, it told me to restart - I did. I restart into a command prompt... No GUI. Turn off PC, on again, still - same thing. Asks me to login, but no GUI.
i use that box as a 'cruncher' it runs the BOINC client with the WCG project as a full time 'cruncher'so that kinda sucks right nowso i think the install workedbut when it restarted it asked for my user name and password (in terminal mode i think)that leads me no-whereso before i did this upgrade i swapped out my GPUsi pulled out my 8800GT and put i back in my main rigand put a 4550 in its placeit started an ran in safe modecould i just simple be over looking the face that 10.10 cant use the 4550 and all i have to do issudo appget the drivers for it to get up and running again?
I have v 10.10 and I had to hook up with ethernet cord to download and activate both broadcom b43 and sta drivers. Once they were both downloaded and activated my wireless worked fine. (Also I have an hp mini 210-1000 if that helps.) After unplugging my laptop and using it, if it dies or if things are running really funky and it seems like it could use a restart, or on one of the many occasions where I am not going to be using it for a few days and just shut it down, as soon as I start it back up.
I find that sta driver still says activated under system - admin - additional drivers, however the b43 now says inactive, and my wireless wont connect to any router, even though it can detect them, until I connect with the ethernet cord and redo the whole driver activation for both, and then restart. This happens every time, and although I don't often take my laptop out of my room, my router is away from my desk, so this is a major inconvenience when i have work to do, or if I were to ever take it out somewhere with me.
due to windows 'genuine software' paranoia, i had to restore my laptop to the windows factory setting. computer has got linux installed and before the restore, grub worked fine. now, it goes straight to windows 7, is there a way to get grub restarted.
I'm using Ubuntu 10.04 and for some reason, privoxy just won't start properly on startup. I see privoxy is there when I run 'ps -A', but Firefox says that it is refusing connections. When I run 'sudo /etc/init.d/privoxy restart', it restarts and everything is peachy. But for some reason, it just won't start properly on boot
I'm setting up a mythTV frontend, so have set up automatic login in GDM, which works perfectly. I've also re-enabled the "kill X server" key combo (ctrl-alt-backspace), as other people here are used to that to restart it if everything goes pear-shaped.
However, the autologin isn't working properly after I kill the X server -- just sits at the login screen, and I have to manually log in.
how to fix that? Essentially, I never want to see the log in screen -- I want it to always log in as my generic MythTV user.
Not sure if it's any help, but here's my /etc/gdm/custom.conf:
I have been running squid3 proxy on a Ubuntu 10.04 machine for several months with no problems. It serves about 50 users ( win and Lin clients ) and is usually rock solid. However, over the last few days problems occur. The users lose connection and I have to restart squid and all is ok again. Sometimes it drops 4-5 times in an hour ans sometimes not for 6 hours or more. I know the problem is related to Squid as the actual internet connection is on and the squid machine can access the internet. Restarting squid cures the problem. How can I troubleshoot this ?
Checking the cache.log doesn't show anything strange as far as I can see. Could it be that the cache file is full or something ?
I used to have audio working. Now it's silence while the vumeter reads as if all streams are outputting okay. I have a Radeon HD 4670 with audio out the HDMI as well as audio out the motherboard simultaneously. This all works in windows 7 and used to work in ubuntu until some point, not exactly sure when, it all went silent. Also, fyi, I started with a clean 9.10 and upgraded to 10.04.

Ok first off the write speeds are off the hook, 210MB/s on 5400RMS disks (5 disks in a RAID 6). However, read speeds are 68MB/s. I wondering first off, why? and secondly could this be an indicator of something not properly setup that might cause harm to my disks?
Due to crash of 10.04 grub, I installed it again from a live CD on D drive "C drive has windows 7", then immediately after install, I upgraded to 10.10 64 bit. Need to change the boot to Windows loader and not directly to Ubuntu as it happens now. I see "windows loader as an alternative option" and it works when I select it. when I boot to windows, my computer icon reads only one file on D drive "bootsqm.dat". from Ubuntu computer option, I can access all windows files.
I installed centos 5.5 and httpd service was working well for the last 2 weeks till yesterday. I restarted server and noted my hosting service were not working. I have tried service httpd restart on the terminal and it dispalys [FAILED]. I updated my machine and and have tried restarting it but it doesn't work. I am new to centos and I dont know how to solve this.
i'm trying to install ubuntu on a sony vaio. Unfortunately i cannot boot from a cd on which i have burnt the .iso file of ubuntu. The only way i managed to install ubuntu was by creating a usb bootable stick, but here also that doesn't work so well. My workaround was to use virtual clone drive which is freeware to simulate a cd rom in windows and get the iso file started. By leaving the bootable usb stick in the computer in this way it worked...
So in the end i have grub and can load ubuntu and win xp, but then by trying to format the harddrive i kind of messed things up and had to reinstall windows. Because the DVD drive only reads original cds. So from there i will attemp to reinstall ubuntu again. But how can i get rid of win xp afterwards ? If that CD Rom would only read burnt cds or if it would habe been possible to boot from usb then i wouldn't have this trouble.
Maybe a simple question, im not sure what is running behind the curtain.
banshee guayadeque gnomemusicbrowser rhythmbox
are doing the same thing with my 14k mp3 library. They all dupe exactly the same files with every full rescan of the existing music library. So i guess they all use a gnome system part for this job and there is a bug inside this part. I want to file a bug against this part but don't know the name.
I have a fileserver running 10.04 server 64bit and samba. I connect it to my desktop which is 10.04 desktop 64bit.I have the server mounted on my desktop in fstab as://10.0.0.2/share /media/share cifs guest, uid= 1000.Up until 30 June 2010 it was all fine. Now when I write the server it is very slow e.g. 2Mbps though when I read I get >100Mbps so I think my network is still ok. If i use nautilus smb://10.0.0.2/share I can write at >100Mbps and also read at >100Mbps...So any ideas why the write speed via the fstab mount samba has started to go really slowly in the last couple of days?
im on 10.10(desktop) and mdadm was v2.8.1 from 2008, very out of date so i tried 3.2.1 -> no change. mdadm raid1 read speeds are the same as single disk. note i used the tests in the disk utility benchmarking tool at first --these showed raid 5 atleast to be much better but when i tried dd reads raid5 dropped off with larger data to almost the same (slow) speed as raid1. compare:
[code]....
using two partitions will be enough to show raid1 performs at single disk speed. I dont really want to use a 4 disk raid0 just to get the read speed i should be able to get with raid1 as i dont really care about the size loss. I would of course use raid10 but i have found this suffers from the same problem (achieve same read speed as 2 disk stripe). So whilst im shocked others aren't reporting this, unless there is some obscure reason why my system would give these results i think raid1 in not behaving as it should.
