Ubuntu :: Possible To Save A Package From Synaptic After I've Changed Installed Files
Nov 3, 2010
I changed a few files in a couple of folders that are installed from a synaptic package. How can I save the changes as an installation package or save the changes to the package and save the package as a file?
Interested in trialing Varkon and used Synaptic Package Manager to download and install. According to the [url]...nstalling.html it should be there under 'Applications'. I've looked through them all and no sign of Varkon. I've also tried to see if Varkon was installed so I looked via Ubuntu Software Center under installed software. No sign. Did a file search for Varkon.
I have a problem when installing this package through synaptic package manager. this is :
libpng12-dev the error is: W: Failed to fetch http://security.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/po...tu2.1_i386.deb 404 Not Found [IP: 91.189.92.167 80] my distribution is ubuntu 10.4.
I want to install CmapTools in my desktop, which runs v.10.04. I have downloaded the .bin file from their site.Is there a way to install it using Synaptic Package Manager?
I just installed a package with yum but I can't find any files associated with it. My question: is there a way to make yum tell you which files were installed from a package?
I have Ubuntu 9.10 dual booting with Windows7.My ext3 /home is mounted as F: in windows.I share a firefox profile between them so that when i am in Windows my firefox uses the same profile as it does when in Ubuntu. It all worked great until recently. I am unable to save files by right clicking and save as. In the config i am unable to set a directory to save to. It neer asks me where to save to. Just nothing happens. some off my book marks are all messed up as well, my rss feeds have the same post on some random website every time i log on and i have to manually refresh to get the correct feeds back. I am unable to delete the random bookmark.
I'm not sure what other information to post.I believe I'm using the nvidia 190 file, but I've tried to remove 185 and that made me have to boot up in "low graphics mode."
I am a relatively new user of Ubuntu and I have a question about Django 1.2 (and now we're up to 1.2.1). I currently have Django 1.1.1 installed via Synaptic.
-Generally, how long would it take for 1.2.1 to appear in a package that I can download via Synaptic?
-If I were to uninstall ver 1.1.1 and manually install ver 1.2.1, would it get installed in the same location that Synaptic installs it?
Got Karmic Koala up on running on my main computer and have been going through Beginning Ubuntu Linux, Fourth Edition. It was printed during Jaunty Jackalope, but it looks like its information applies to most areas.
However, it says I should be able to find msttcorefonts in the Synaptic Package Manage, and it's not there. I double checked Writer and Times New Roman and the other true type staples are not there, so it's not that it was installed with the boot disk.
I am trying to get Ubuntu up and running on my Dell XPS 400 desktop. I verified the checksum of the iso (ubuntu-9.10-desktop-i386.iso) I downloaded, and I ran the cd check before installing. I also ran a memtest for 16 hours with no errors.
So I install Ubuntu, and everything seems ok. Now, I try to update my software packages, and the upgrade always fails after all the packages are downloaded (sometime during actual installation). So, I have to reboot, and the file system will not mount. I run fsck and reboot, and now I cannot even boot normally or to a shell... This has happened to me twice in row.
What is the best plan of attack when a package fails to install midway? I want to use Ubuntu, but this is making it pretty hard.
I'm having a problem where I can't open Synaptic Package Manager. The error message I get is this:
E: Malformed line 57 in source list /etc/apt/sources.list (dist parse) E: The list of sources could not be read. Go to the repository dialog to correct the problem. E: _cache->open() failed, please report.
Here's my sources.list:

I've just installed Lucid Lynx and it seems to be running fine, except the synaptic package manager is downloading things incredibly slowly. Is this just because the server is busy due to the new release?
i am unable to open package manager or install any software, each time i try it brings up this messageE: Malformed line 5 in source list /etc/apt/sources.list (URI parse)E: The list of sources could not be read.Go to the repository dialogue to correct the problem.E: _cache->open() failed, please report.
I tried to install Redshift's PPA then an error occur, after that , my software center is not working, after i click the ubuntu software centre, nothing's happening..and also i cannot open synaptic package manager. But there is an error coming out code...
Synaptic Package Manager failed with the following error:
E: Malformed line 55 in source list /etc/apt/sources.list (dist) E: The list of sources could not be read. Go to the repository dialog to correct the problem. E: _cache->open() failed, please report.
With the error dialog as modal window, the Synaptic Package Manager main screen is disabled. As soon as I click "OK" to close the error dialog, Synaptic Package Manager shuts down right away.I don't know there is the "repository dialog" is to correct the problem as suggested.
i cannot access synaptic package manager. It asks for my password and then when i enter it synaptic starts to load and gives me this error message:E: dpkg was interrupted, you must manually run 'sudo dpkg --configure -a' to correct the problem. E: _cache->open() failed, please report.
I tried entering the command listed in the terminal and got an error. Anyone know how to fix this so i can launch synaptic again?
whenever i tried to open Synaptic package Manager the following messages shows:
E: Type '.net/tualatrix/ppa/ubuntu' is not known on line 2 in source list /etc/apt/sources.list.d/tualatrix-ppa-maverick.list E: The list of sources could not be read. Go to the repository dialog to correct the problem. E: _cache->open() failed, please report.
Ubuntu Software Center, Update Manager, Synaptic package Manager all are jammed and indicates the same error. Except these everything works perfectly.
I need some assistance on getting Synaptic Package Manager to start correctly. I can start it from the command line without any errors. When I try to use the shortcut under the /System/Administration menu it ask for the password but nothing ever opens up nor is there an error. My source list is fine. I have ran "sudo apt-get update".
E: dpkg was interrupted, you must manually run 'sudo dpkg --configure -a' to correct the problem. E: _cache->open() failed, please report. computer froze while i was downloading something and i cannot use synaptic package manager anymore. the dpkg message came up saying --configure0a was an unknow option
When I try to open SYNAPTIC PACKAGE MANAGER in my ubuntu 11.04 version, it is showing error. Following error is being displayed:
E: Encountered a section with no Package: header E: Problem with MergeList /var/lib/apt/lists/us.archive.ubuntu.com_ubuntu_dists_natty_main_bina ry-i386_Packages E: The package lists or status file could not be parsed or opened. E: _cache->open() failed, please report.
I have some programs that I have already uninstalled, but that I now realize have left behind files on my computer. I went to the package manager and selected them for complete removal, but the apply button will not work. Same with ctrl P. Is there a way to get it to completely erase these programs? Is there a better way to go about this?
The problem below is probably related to the fact that I tried to install a 32-bit version of Teamviewer on a 64 bit system. I have now downloaded the right version, but when I try to install it I get: teamviewer6: 6.0.9224 (Multi-Arch: no) is not co-installable with teamviewer6:i386 6.0.9224 (Multi-Arch: no) which is currently installed But the Synaptic Package Manager does not indicate that Teamviewer is installed, nor does it appear under installed apps in the panel. So how do I get rid of the teamviewer6:i386?
