Ubuntu :: Network Stoped Working After Reboot?
Jun 25, 2010
Using 10.04, everything working fine every day since the install a month or so ago. I shut down the machine normally, when I returned a few hours later it started up without a hitch, but without network. I found a thread suggesting the following (in the case of a failed suspend, which did happent to me a few weeks ago)
Code:
service network-manager stop
rm /var/lib/NetworkManager/NetworkManager.state
service network-manager start
but it didn't help.
My ifconfig looks like this

I set up a Ubuntu Server for my home network to share among Win XP and Ubuntumachines.Initially everything worked fine with all Win XP machines being able to share files on the server; however, after I installed and setup SSH between my Ubuntu machines and my Ubuntu Server I now cannot share and/or even see my Server directory from Win XP or Ubuntu machines through the Samba.I have tried for 2 days to figure out the problem without success.Did I break something while setting up the SSH? How can I fix Samba? Here's some things I have setup or tried so far:1. Samba users are setup and were working previously.2. Samba share drives were setup and working previously.3. I can see the Server using SSH or SFTP from my Ubuntu machines.4. I have gone over the Samba config file numerous times5. I am administering Samba on the server via the terminal and Webmin

My XBMC box has been working just fine for a few months. I could easily browse to the Windows shares located on a machine running Windows 7 both within XBMC and Nautilus. However, now I can't browse to the shares using either XBMC or Nautilus (via Places - Network). Furthermore, when using smbclient in terminal I get the following error:
Code: smbclient -L fileserver protocol negotiation failed: ERRnomem.I have tried using the IP number as well (the host is entered in the hosts file.I can ping the machine just fine, using either the IP number or the host name, but the ability to browse its shares is impossible. I can access the shares using another Windows 7 machine, so the shares are there.

Using 10.04 happily for some time, I shut the machine down today and when I started it back up there was no network.
I've tried to fix the problem myself, but probably made things much worse! I've tried to reinstall the network manager, manually bring up eth0 with a static ip address (it was happily using dynamic earlier today). I even followed some instructions for manually configuring a network interface added an entry to the routing table (which I suspect will turn out to be a huge mistake). No matter what I have done, I haven't even been able to ping my router.
I am not sure what if any of the following is useful: my router is 192.168.1.1 and is set up as DHCP server
ifconfig Code: eth0 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr e0:cb:4e:32:2e:10

I have an issue on a few servers where IPv6 stops working after a reboot. I can ping anything within the same subnet but anything outside of that it gives me host unreachable. I believe that it is not routing for some reason, but I am not sure why. I have tried adding a default Ipv6 route for Eth3 but nothing seems to work.

I did a bunch of stuff I read about here: [URL]
Okay, I don't think any of that would have hurt anything. Well then I was messing around and I created a shutdown launcher using the command
Code:
sudo shutdown -h now
I engaged the launcher to see what it would do and it caused a rather violent shutdown. When I turned my computer back on my emerald theme was gone and I can't seem to get it going again.

After finally making a network connection I updated Ubuntu, and after a reboot I lost my network connection again.I updated the following file nm-networkmanager-settings.conf and saved it. After another reboot I then lost my network connection icon and it also does not appear under System > Preferences. I tried to then update the same file and can not save it, I get "could not save file".I have tried sudoedit, sudo gedit, gksudo gedit and some others that I cna not remember now and all give me the same result

My user crontab looks like this:

I hadn't updated until yesturday night, today after the massive update and reboot, my x stopped working. What happens is, after the splash screen, both screens goes black and unresponsive. Tried killing X and alt + ctrl + f1 etc. I can probably fix this myself if I could access the terminal but, the other day I had to be stylish and remove everything from my grub boot besides Windows 7 and the default Ubuntu so I can't boot into root terminal. So, how would I gain access to a console before X starts?

DSL modem is a Speedstream 6520 router. All computers work fine via dhcp. I'm trying to setup a small server (print server, ssh & ftp servers). I understand enough of the software part of things to get it going, my problem is setting a static IP on the server box. Every time I set the IP in the /etc/network/interfaces file and reboot, I have no network connection. I can talk to the modem through the browser, but nothing beyond that, not even local computers.
/etc/network/interfaces
auto lo
iface lo inet loopback
auto eth0
iface eth0 inet static
address 192.168.254.202
network 192.168.254.0
netmask 255.255.255.0
gateway 192.168.254.254
ifconfig shows the .202 address, but box can't get to the outside world, and can't ssh into the box from a computer sitting next to it. If I let it dhcp, then I can ssh into it, and have access to the internet. In the modem, I have dmz set for that address. Wan address is static. I can ssh into it if I let it do dhcp, so I know it can work that far. But if I set static ip, I might as well pull the network cable. I've been beating my head on this for over a week, and I'm lost why I can't get it to work. I even changed the dhcp range on the modem, so the .202 is not in that range. There is no dhcp client installed that I can find. I'm using WattOS beta3, which is a light distro based on 9.04. The computer is an old Dell GX150, integrated nic. I have done ifdown and ifup eth0, still no happiness. Doesn't seem like it should be that hard, but I'm stumped. DMZ should let everything pass, so don't need to mess with port forwarding and such. I know it works using dhcp.

Whenever I reboot my server, it looses all network connectivity. It can't see the LAN nor the internet. I have to issue the following:
Code:
ifconfig eth0 down
ifconfig eth1 down
ifconfig eth1 up
This will get the server talking to the LAN, but still not to the internet. To get that I have to do:
Code:
route add default gw 192.168.0.1
Then I'm up and running.
But why?
Granted I only have to reboot now and then (after a power failure, or, like last night where the server was actually heating the house too much on a hot August day) but why is this happening? It is like these settings are temporary and are lost on shutdown.

I was able to successfully install Tweetdeck and Adobe Air using the instructions here: http://www.technixupdate.com/install...-ubuntu-linux/
BUT after I closed the program, when I tried to re-open it, it wouldn't load anymore. It would show that it is "Starting Tweetdeck" but it would not lead to anything - it would just close.
So I tried to uninstall everything and re-install from scratch. But the same thing happened - the program would not load.
I tried to isolate the issue by trying to install another AIR application. When I double-click on the icon or click on install using Adobe AIR, it would not run. So that only means that the issue is with Adobe AIR.
Here's what I did code...
It will then load the installer. Go through the step-by-step process until it's finished.
Install Tweetdeck again (Just double-click on its .air file).

My computer wouldn't come out of sleep mode, so I had to shut it down improperly. Now there's no ethernet network connection. The NIC works as I can start the computer by wake-on-lan, but somehow Ubuntu no longer sets up a network connection on it.
The green light on the NIC is lit up and blinking. I have changed no settings. It used to get an IP address from the DHCP no problem, but ifconfig now only shows 127.0.0.1.

I am getting really frustrated with trying to get my RAID5 working again. I had a RAID5 array built with 4 of the Western Digital 1.5tb "Advanced Format" drives, WD15EARS. However, when copying 1.5gb dvd encoded files to the drive, I was getting speeds of ~2mb/s. When researching how to make this faster, I came across all the posts about the Advanced Format drives and how that was causing a lot of issues for a lot of people. It looked like the solution was simple enough: partition starting at sector 64 or 2048 or whatever and then recreate the RAID. However, this is not working for me.
Here are my computer specs:
Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-EP43-DS3L LGA 775 Intel P43 ATX
CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 Wolfdale 3.0GHz 6MB L2 Cache LGA 775 65W
RAM: 4gb DDR2 1066 (PC2 8500)
Video card: ASUS GeForce 9600GT 512MB 256-bit
Linux: 10.04

I am having some problems with my CentOs 5 install. On Sunday I switched off my PC. I started it again yesterday, but after that no more Internet access and no more network access. When I go to SysTem * Administration - Network I can see what I had before restart. Nothing was changed. When I try to access to Internet, just get "No connection" problem.
When I try to access to the Local network, I CAN see the others pcs connected to the network, but after I click any of them I get a "Can Not see content" message. I really didnt do anything, didnt changed options... nothing... just shut down my pc and started it at next day as usually do. Im searching for info since yesterday and I cant find anything that work.

I have installed Lucid in a new laptop. Things are running OK except for the following problem:
I connect to the network/Internet using Wired ethernet (TCP/IP) with static IP. Everytime I reboot/restart my network configurations are lost and I have to re-configure. I have googled this problem and have seen a few posts/bugs in launchpad etc. for what appears to be the same issue...but unfortunately I am not getting a clear solution to this problem.
Just for clarity, I am using the following commands to re-configure my network everytime:
Also note that I have already tried editing the /etc/network/interfaces and the /etc/resolv.conf files. But it seems that these are not being picked or are being overridden.

I've been having issues with my ubuntu server (10.04 LTS) lately. Every once in a while, anywhere from 3 days to a month or more, the server will just disappear from the network. All manner of trying to reach it from the outside fails, even from the LAN. Since it's headless, this is kind of problematic. After a hard power down or reboot, the server will always come back online, but this is very annoying for a remotely administered server.
What should I look for when trying to determine why the server keeps going offline? I can't tell if there are any other issues like a hard lockup or anything, just that it is not on the network anymore when this happens.

I just loaded 10.10 on an Acer Aspire One D255. When I installed Ubuntu, network manager loaded and I was able to use both the wired and wireless cards. After I used update manager, the kernel was upgraded, and I also added some wireless applications (RutilT WLAN Manager, SWScanner, and WiFi Radar). Upon reboot, the network manager doesn't work, and it cannot find any of the devices.

Last night I created a fresh install of Ubuntu Server 10.10. I was working through a tutorial to set up a development server for home use, and everything worked perfectly. I was able to install OpenSSH, Apache, MySQL, and PHP (and Vim) with no problems. I was also able to use "ifconfig" to determine the network address of the server and I was able to view web pages on the server from another machine on my home network, using a browser. So, everything was "peachy". [By the way: The server is connected to the router using a CAT5 cable. This is a WIRED connection] I shut the Ubuntu server down at the end of the night and, now that I have rebooted this morning, I have apparently lost the network interface. I cannot ping anything from the server. If I run ifconfig, only the "lo" configuration is listed, with the 127.0.0.1 address.
