I have the same problem. Any activity such as burning a disk or downloading a file if the mouse doesn't move the screen freezes and the activity stops maybe I should go back to 10.04 as it seemed to be more stable? Anyone else having the same bug?
View 3 RepliesI have done some research and I am led to believe it has to do with "Bad Sectors" on my HDD. I have included a screenshot of the "Sectors that are failing" And the error messages I am recieving. If you believe it is anything else and there is a fix to it, feel free to inform me.
View 2 Replies View RelatedThis sound very weird, but i'll try to explain it as good as i can.When i hit a key on my laptops keyboard, i cannot move my mouse for a split second.I can replicate this by typing and trying to move the mouse mean while.but this is very annoying if you e.g. I hit ctrl+c and trying to move the mouse afterwards or opening a tab, that the mouse just freezes for a while.

View 7 Replies View RelatedI just tried to install Ubuntu 10.10 x86 on my netbook (Lenovo S12 - Intel at all) but this is just horrible. The system is dead after a few seconds but after I moved the mouse or pressed a key it goes on normally for a few seconds and then it stucks again and so on.
Ubuntu 10.04 had the same problem but it was not that extreme! Maybe it stucks after 2-3 minutes but not after 3-5 seconds! And after I installed all the updates it runs just fine. What can I do? I really love Ubuntu and it's a pitty that I cannot use it.
I have an issue with a bluetooth mouse. The mouse connects with the pc normally, and the bluetooth manager reports that the bluetooth device sends data. However, the mouse does not move the pointer, or seems to do any kind of effect on the pc.
View 1 Replies View RelatedIt appears that clicking on a link in Firefox doesn't work until you move the mouse, i.e. if I put the mouse on a link and hold it stationary and click the link, nothing happens, but as soon as I move the mouse, the link then activates. Sometimes, I have to double click the link to get it to work. I've read some posts where people claim that Firefox "freezes" until you move the mouse. In my case, Firefox doesn't "freeze" in the traditional sense. It just that clicking a link doesn't behave properly as it should. I didn't have this problem in 8.04LTS (or previous distributions for that matter) only in 10.04LTS. I'm running the 32-bit version on a Dell Latitude D600 laptop with nvidia-common driver 0.2.23.

I have compiz config settings manager and I did some changes there but I've noticed now that for example when a skype chat window is open and when I move my mouse pointer away, the window disappears. View 1 Replies View RelatedMy work machine crashes 1-3 times a day, and I often lose work. This is getting very frustrating--I've never known a Linux system to be so unstable.
When it freezes, I can still move the mouse around. I believe it's also still doing some background tasks, since files have finished copying before and my music will still be playing, if it was before. But the mouse cursor doesn't change, and it's totally nonresponsive.
The trouble is, I don't know how to diagnose this problem, to tell you something less vague. I might be able to check, to see what's going on? The problem usually comes about when I'm doing something--either loading a new web page, or starting a new program, or even when I just hit a button. Otherwise, I'm just stumped.

Is there a way to move the mouse pointer to a predefined location, for instance when I press a hotkey combination? Or maybe some way to flash the mouse pointer so it's easier to find?

Sometimes become idle after 1-2 seconds, sometimes after 1 minute. When that happens everything stops including sound, but when I move the mouse everything go back to normal.
(that's happening with the newer alsa driver) On ubuntu 10.04(which use a later alsa driver) I can prevent the laptop become idle if I listen music but the sound stop sometimes for a second. (seems like is an alsa driver problem) Right now the best solution is to install OSS driver and to play music all the time.

Ive restarted my computer (unplug), i had to format the harddrive i was installing it on (luckily it was empty already).
I just finished installing Fedora 11 on a Dell Inspiron 6000. After some tinkering, I was able to get the Broadcom 4318 wireless card to start working. After a restart, I booted into Fedora and attempted to connect to my wireless network.Five seconds later Fedora freezes. I cannot move the mouse, execute any commands (except hold the power button down), or access any log files. The only confirmation I get is that my router does receive a signal from the wireless card, shortly before dying.

THE PROBLEM : gnome 3 freeze sometimes, the PC is freeze (the mouse doesn't move when i move the mouse. I must power down my PC for re-activate it. I am running 10.10 Netbook Edition. I added Terminal Server Client to the Unity Menu and I typically run it in Full Screen mode to manage serveral windows based servers. The problem is that TSC displays perfect in full screen (unity tool bar hidden) but when i move the mouse over to the left side of the screen i get the pop-up text balloons from the unity below it. I cannot click on any items along the left edge of the remote desktop window including the windows start key. I want to confirm if this is a bug? and how to report it if so.

Today I downloaded the last debian iso, i booted it from cd, and at first i tried the graphical install but the mouse was stuck in the middle of the screen, although the left click was working... So i started the normal install (with just text), while installing it said me that i needed a firmware "not free", installable by a usb o cd, it was something like "xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx.bin", so i skipped this step. Then when i had to configure the network, i typed my network's essid and the password, but it said that the essid was incorrect, so i skipped also this step... at the end i have debian installed without GUI...

I Installed Debian 6.0 RC1 in virtualbox on my PC and the installation went fine but when I boot into Debian, the mouse pointer doesn't move although the left and right mouse buttons seem to work.
I'm running on an ASRock 890GX Extreme 3 Mobo with virtualbox running in Windows 7. Virtualbox has no problems with the mouse with other distros I've tried. Is it to do with the proprietary-free kernel being used? If so how do I install the regular kernel?
I'm using a USB Wireless Mouse (Debian 5.07 works fine in Virtualbox), cannot try a PS/2 type mouse (or USB to PS/2 adaptor) as Mobo doesn't have a PS/2 Mouse socket, only one for keyboard
As you know it is possible to move the mouse pointer with the numlock keys on a standard keyboard. I would like to know what are the commands for moving the pointer up, down, right, and left? I plan to reprogram different keys/shortcuts to do those mouse functions instead of the numlock keys.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm not sure what to call the semi-transparent sidebar with a random collection of unconfigurable icons, but I don't think it's working properly.
1. When I move my mouse to the left edge of the screen, it doesn't always appear. Sometimes I have to move my mouse back and forth, back and forth, several times.
2. What it's doing right now is even worse... it appears, but as soon as I move the mouse a *little* bit to the right to actually click an icon, it disappears.
What is causing this? Surely it's a bug? How do I make the sidebar the absolute top priority for the screen edge so that it always catches it and appears? how do I configure it? I can't right-click on the sidebar itself. I can right-click and remove some icons. Other icons, like the grayed-out (but still active) "recent files" thing cannot be removed.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI installed SalixOS on my laptop just to play with when I'm bored. My laptop is nothing special, it's a couple of years old has a pentium dual core t2390 at 1.86Ghz and 3 GB ddr2 RAM with Intel video.
I then have a beast i7 920 clocked to 3331Mhz 6GB RAM, and an NVIDIA GT220. Full screen ..... at 720p is fine unless I move the mouse, then the whole picture freezes. Persistant mouse movement will freeze the screen for a few minutes. This machine runs both slack64 current and slack13 32 bits.
The slack box does much better with 32 bit flash than 64, but it still doesn't do nearly as well as the laptop.
With Salix and Slack being so close to each other supposedly I can't figure out why the hardware seems to be irrelevant. The only thing I can think of would be the video codecs installed by Salix, whereas I built a bunch of codecs myself for Slack.
I just updated to kernel 2.6.35.13-91.fc14.x86_64, and I'm now having a weird issue where my computer will hang during startup and shutdown unless I move the mouse around.
While moving the mouse, it will boot up or shut down normally. Once i stop moving the mouse around it will hang (until I begin to move the mouse again).Once fully booted it acts fine..
slackware and am infact running Vector Linux which is slackware based. I used to use fedora on my old laptop got a new on and tried vector. The mouse on the new one doesn't seem to want to work properly, it jumps alot and usually ends up at the end of the screen unable to move, however does manage to click almost every icon on the screen and change desktops.A USB mouse works fine its just the touchpad.It's a Zoostorm Freedom and I can't even find the windows drivers for it let alone what i need for this. I tried editing the xorg.conf to stop the tab button, which doesn't do anything, installed the latest synaptics and still nothing, tried using what someone else uses and still nothing, I cant even find out what kind of mouse it is!?
