i have two 40Gb's drives in the machine, and they are used for torrenting, my download folder (of my first 40) keeps getting full, and the other drive is empty, is there any way to make the download folder looks "70gb",

View 3 Replies View RelatedI been using linux for a while, but I havent had the time to really learn it. Something Id like to get more familiar with is bash so here is a simple example of something I would like to do:
I have a directory full of files. For each file in the directory create a new subdirectory with each files name.
I tried this:
#im already in this directory
aaa=./*
for a in $aaa
do mkdir $a
done
One of the problems is that there are spaces () and - in the filenames so I get many subfolders with names like "-" which i don't want.
I tried stuff like:
aaa=./*
for a in $aaa
do mkdir "'"$a"'"
done
This of course also did not work.
Additional I tried just creating a folder with the name of one of the files and I got this:
mkdir: cannot create directory `(audio) - R56339.EXE': File exists
Well yeah a file exsists with that name, but I want to create a folder- why is there a conflict?
Just to be clear here are the contents of this folder:
~/Desktop/LAB/Media/Drivers - (Image Deployment)/Optiplex_GX260/XP> ls
(audio) - R56339.EXE (NIC-Onboard-Intel) - R54402.EXE
(Modem-datafax-V92) - R54403.EXE OEM_Applications

I am using hotmail as my main email and want to setup the evolution as my default email client.but for some reason it couldnt download my folders which are on the server.it only downloads the mail from the inbox.is there any workaround for this.also if i switch to thunderbird would it be able to download the folder from hotmail??

Fresh install of Ubuntu 9.10 with all the new upgrades.
When i type in: sudo apt-get install compiz-settings-manager, I get this response.

Then it returns to the basic command line, thing.
I had been uploading pictures from camera to download fold. Had a lot in there. Thought right click delete would just delete the pictures. Deleted folder too.

View 3 Replies View Relatedi have downloaded some series into my download folder. apparently i did that as root (cant remember how but ok)now i want to delete some of the folders, but i dont have acces. i tried everything. deleting it while as root, using the command line : " sudo rm -R <folder> was the closest i got and i actually succesfully removed one folder. now the problem is that it was a folder named usr, one word. but when i try to delete a folder with more words, its trying to delete all those words seperatly, like ecery word is a different folder.

Got PGP 6.5.8 for Linux working with Ubuntu 10.10. It involved converting two .rpm files to .deb with the alien utility and then installing by simply double clicking on the .deb files in the file browser invoking the Ubuntu Software Manager. View 1 Replies View RelatedI've made some of my own icons in Gimp and saved them as .pngs. The problem is, when I use them they always appear smaller than the system default icons. Is there no way to make them as the same size as the system icons? I read somewhere that GNOME (which is what I use) uses .png .svg and .xpm. I am only able to save as .png with GIMP, is there a way to get .svg and .xpm extension capabilities with GIMP?

For example: if I create a folder at on 2010.06.03 at 13:01:34 then I would need a file name something similar to the following 20100603_130134. In addition, could the same method be used for .tar files? I would like a bash script which I can run to perform the following; however, I am not familiar with scripting in Linux yet.
