View 4 RepliesI'm trying to get video calls to work using Empathy 2.30.0. I'm running the 10.04 beta right now, but I've had this problem ever since I installed Empathy. The problem is essentially that I don't even see the option to do a video call with my contact. I can do an audio call, but the option to do a video call is greyed out.
My webcam is built-in (the computer is a Dell Inspiron 1545n). I know that it _can_ work under Linux, as I regularly use Skype. Also, just after I upgraded to 10.04, I briefly had the "video call" option, but when the program crashed I tried to call, and then the option was gone again. What was strange is that for a little bit, before it crashed, my webcam was working, and I could see the image it was receiving. So it can't even be that Empathy just can't use my webcam.
Does anyone know anything about this problem? Everywhere I've looked says that Empathy should be able to make calls using GTalk.
I connect myself on a msn account, and I can't make a call to my other msn contact. How can I enable it?

View 6 Replies View RelatedI while back I tried installing Skype form the software centre but for some reason it wouldn't work. Now, with a fresh install of Lucid, I see that Empathy comes pre-installed and allows video chatting. Is it worth setting up a account? Does anyone have experience with Empathy?
View 9 Replies View RelatedHow do I turn off video chat support in empathy. I know that this was a long awaited feature, but frankly the gmail voice browser plugin works better. The issue is when I log into my gmail account in the browser and someone "video calls" me empathy intercepts the call and rings. I would prefer that it not do this, and let the browser catch the call. Now I have to shut empathy down or log out of gmail in it first.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI've been using empathy to chat on MSN. The problem is I can't erase my password when I want to log off. Theres just one user on this machine, I know it would be easier to create diffrent profiles. But I just want to be able to tell empathy that it should ask my pw to log on to my account.
Is this possible?
I'm using a PS3 Eye, which seems to work out of the box on my Ubuntu 9.10 system (both Skype, and Cheese). When I have a pidgin chat window open for one of my contacts, in the media options (under Conversation) the audio, video, and audio/video option is ghosted out (non selectable).
I have the Video plugin checked (ticked), with the input video selected (the cam shows up in the list, and it's selected): for the Eye, I select for both the Audio and Video device. But when I close the plugin configuration window, it defaults back to "Default" which i'm guessing is part of the problem. The audio and video options in pidgin is relative to my system correct? So even if the other user doesn't have that capability, it'll still let me use audio/video for them?
I have installed Ubuntu 10.10 on ASPIRE 5315 (intel celeron)Installed SKYPE BETA 2.1.0.8.1.I have external webcam which works with CHEESE ( I could see myself and takepictures). However when I open SKYPE onle telephone (voice) call are available. I Do not have the option for video calls. I do not have/see a tool bar or a side bar so I cannot make any change or test the video. I tried to delete and download SKYPE again and id did not work. What can I do ?If you post an answer please provide step by step since I am not familiar with ubuntu.

If beyond Mac OS X apps you can also mention Ubuntu Linux and WIndows apps that can do that too.
As far as I checked, skype is not an option.
Ever sense i updated to 10.4 skype's video calling for me has turned a light shade of blue, nothing that really tampers with my call, just annoying the snot out of me because the person im talking to is blue.
Also I do not think its my cameras drivers because not only am I a shade of blue, but the person I am talking to is also blue and they say that I on their screen look fine. When i run a camera test with skype everything is a shade of blue as well.
I cannot for the life of me find a way to test my camera outside of skype.
Sound Recorder is working fine. But when try to make normal call or test call I cannot record sound my internal mic in SKYPE. As I speak something immediately the sound level of mic drops to zero. Alsa driver are installed. HDA intel conexant mic.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI am a newbie in linux n programming, I need to use ubuntu for my research at school about building an IMS server use openims.
The problem is I need an additional script in C/C++ for my openims server to make an extension call. I hope one number can represent 3 client as receiver/operator. So, when I call the number, the server can forward the call to those three receiver by hunt.
1st call will be forward to the 1st receiver.
2nd call will be forward to the 2nd receiver.
3rd call will be forward to the 3rd receiver.
then, 4th call will be forward back to the 1st receiver, etc.

I installed Fedora 11. It 's working fine I have problem only for Skype. When I try to call some one, I got the error "Problem with audio playback". I have "skype-2.1.0.81-fc10.i586.rpm" on my machine.
I am looking for a way to make a video call from windows to linux. I do prefer over MSN or skype protocol so it would mean less trouble starting new accounts for all sides.
Now here are my problems: pidgin doesn't support video calls on msn protocol and skype doesn't support video calls over GPRS.
I like the simple looking interface on pidgin and I have a sierra wireless 880E pcmcia 3G modem. the windows side is using the WLM so no problems there.
i've written small tool in C which makes measurements on my router (OpenWrt White Russian).
It is working as a deamon. If the tool is started manually, everything works fine. If it is started per script on startup, the following system call doesn't work :
Code: sprintf(command,"/bin/cat /root/%s%s | /usr/bin/ssh -p2222 user(at)host -i /root/.ssh/id_rsa "/bin/cat >> result/%s%s"", apmac, source, apmac, dest);
rc = system (command); the returned rc in this case is 256.
first i thought it is a problems with the user rights for the tool, so i have added +s to it. but that didn't help. as i said, when the daemon is started by hand, the system call works fine.
I'd like to know how I can modify an existing GNOME extension to call Code: Select allsystemctl hibernate
