View 2 RepliesI have what I suspect is a frequently encountered problem; indeed it may be an inevitable one. Moreover, I think that I know the solution to the problem. Let me explain.
History:
1. I downloaded f10 from the Fedora site.
2. I burned a DVD.
3. I installed f10 on my laptop using the DVD, and it seems to work correctly.
Symptoms:
4. I ran yum upgrade (as super user), and got the message 'No Packages marked for Update.'
5. I did the same thing for several days and got the same response.
6. I ran yum upgrade a* and got the same response. I thought that the mirror site might balk at large downloads.
Diagnosis:
From what I have read on the web I think the following is what happens.
What I will call the original repository-key system, the one that I downloaded and that is now on my DVD, is limited. It merely concerns the packages that are already on my DVD, and these packages are never changed in the original repository. Therefore, yum is working correctly and will always tell me that 'No Packages marked for Update.'
Cure:
There is a new repository-key system, and with it yum does real updates and upgrades. All I have to do is install the new repository-key system.
THE PROBLEM: ALTHOUGH I HAVE GOOGLED AND SEARCHED A LOT, I CANNOT FIND THE METHOD FOR GETTING AND INSTALLING THE NEW REPOSITORY-KEY SYSTEM IN F10. THERE MUST BE A SIMPLE STANDARDIZED METHOD. WHERE IS IT?
If the above is correct, then anyone who downloads and installs f10 as I did must face this problem.
I have noticed that some repos in /etc/yum.repos.d/*.repo files have the definition "enable=0", I am not talking specifically about the "testing" repos... of course these have some packages tha may disrupt the normal working of CentOS... but about all the remaining repos ( non "testing" ) that are disabled by default...Is it dangerous to enable them...? even respecting priorities and having yum priorities activated...?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI got Kile installed and when I tired to run a template, it wouldn't compile. I ran it thru the cmd line and i see that I'm missing the required packages. I want to install the tucv package [1] and was getting started to do it manually but then I realize I needed to install a handful of other packages. I heard it was easier to install with the Package Manager. I looked at the tut and I'm stuck on finding the apt-line for CTAN.[URL]..
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a problem with my wireless internet, my chipset went into the kernel in 2.6.38 and my kernel is version 2.6.37. I know what I have to do, which is add the repository from Index of /repositories/driver:/wireless/openSUSE_11.4 there. Then I have to go into Yast and get the compat-wireless-kmp-desktop-2.6.38.2_k2.6.37.1_1.2-2.1.i586.rpm I do believe. From then, I can do the 'sudo/sbin/modprobe -v rtl8192ce' command my wireless should be availabe.
However, with no internet connection, I'm not sure how to add a repository. I'm a bit of a noob to Linux but I'm just unsure of a way. I tried just going in and downloading the compat-wireless-kmp-desktop-2.6.38.2_k2.6.37.1_1.2-2.1.i586.rpm file and putting it on my external harddrive and trying to install it that way. But it said something about there was no dependency so it couldn't install the file.
Am I missing something here or is there another way I can do this without the use of internet in OpenSuse?
Btw, before anyone says use wireless, it's not possible at the moment, but I'll make it happen if it's a last resort.
Inspired by Knoppix Adriene, I am trying to install it on my netbook. However, I don't want the knoppix repositories since most of them are outdated.
How do I add ubuntu or linux mint's repositories to Knoppix? I guess I need to install the gpg-key also for each repository, correct?
I'm giving CentOS a new look as a desktop. Been a few years since I last installed it on anything but a server. While the default repositories have improved greatly I am still bereft of so much of my cherished and necessary software. No Gambas, Wesnoth (shows up but version is 2 years out of date), Chrome, Audacious ugly plugins, XMMS support for FLAC (shows up but errors out if I try to install), Cinalarra, Audacity, JACK audio, Ardour, Xine, Amarok, Blender, Gthumb, Abiword, gramps, disk utility, many KDE apps, it's almost like KDE is a forgotten desktop manager for CentOS repsositories and pages more of software I'm too lazy too list. All of this is software which shows up in Debian based distros and most of which in Fedora/SUSE repositories.
What are some good repositories for CentOS. I clearly have the wrong ones enabled or CentOS is a very crippled desktop. Here are the repositories I've added/have.
Updates
extras
addons
adobe
base
c5-media errors out so I have it disabled.
centosplus
contrib
kbs-CentOS-extras & misc
Rpmforge
RPMforge extras errors out so I have it disabled.
CentOS users what repositories do you use?
how to add third party repository in CentOS?

View 8 Replies View RelatedI am running Suse 11.1 64bit, with KDE, recently I received a pop up on my screen, "something about update problems", I used Yast 2 and selected online Update and it couldn't find updates for Nvidia and froze at that point. I dis-enabled that repository and refreshed all of the remaining Repositories individually and it seemed to work. I then went to the repositories listing and selected "Add" and selected "community" repositories and received the following: WARNING Unable to download list of repositories or no repositories defined. What is my problem? How do I acquire the list of community repositories? I can live with out the Nvidia repository for now but would eventually like to get it back.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI don't know if this is a configuration issue or a hardware issue, but I have a Kinesis Advantage USB keyboard and for some reason the F3-F5 keys aren't responding as they used to. They don't respond to anything and, when I tried using F5 on Emacs, it said <XF86AudioNext> is undefined, so I guess it's a weird mapping problem.
Any idea how I could remap them to the original meaning?
I'm running Debian (Squeeze) and I have a toshiba portege m700. It has five buttons on the front just under the screen, which are the only ones accessible when you flip the screen over into tablet mode. One of them is for rotating the screen, and another is for switching to external display. I want to remap the remaining three to control, alt and super so that I can use shortcuts with the stylusThe problem is, when I used showkey to find out the key codes, I found out that each button generates more than one key code:Button 1:
key 126 press >> super_r, although this is distinct from the actual super key (125)
key 7 press >> 6
key 7 release
key 126 release
I am running Suse 11.1.I do the following:

I recently installed 11.4 32bit on my computer at my summer home. I carry a DVD with all my /home data. Then today I noticed that all my repositories are labeled "11.3" repositories. Everything works. Here is the output from "zypper lr -d"...

What is the correct method of moving to the 11.4 repositories?
I am using Lucid on my PC with no problems but have just setp up a laptop running Vista (I know) and 10.04 via Wubi. I installed Ubuntu and can connect to the net ok but am being told that some of the (I assume) standard repositories are not available
View 2 Replies View RelatedSo yea, why are there so many repositories for the same source (playdeb for example) that specify lucid from maverick or karmic? Why doesn't the repository work on Lucid if it's a repository for Maverick? A big question is why I can't get access to playdeb's stuff on a Lubuntu installation.

E: Malformed line 61 in source list /etc/apt/sources.list (absolute dist) E: The list of sources could not be read. Go to the repository dialog to correct the problem. E: _cache->open() failed, please report.
When I do sudo apt-get update, I get this:E: Malformed line 61 in source list /etc/apt/sources.list (absolute dist)
I do not have a line 61. I tried various suggestions in the forums and commented out lines in the past.
I would like to know what my options are?
If you open up the graphical "Software sources" and go to the tab "Other Software" 10 repos are listed. However these repos are not listed in /etc/apt/sources.list. So where are these lines stored if not there (where I expected them to be).

My question is, the article also makes it seem as if Installing via repository is different to Installing via shell. Is this correct or is installing via shell just additional steps required as part of the installation from repository?
I was wondering whether it could be added to the mirrors/repositories list. how to manually add it to my computer via software sources.I am interested in lucid PPC ubuntu ports.

Do I need to alter my sources list. This wasn't a problem until now
So, I've been using Ubuntu (currently 10.04 lucid) for a while now and have added several repositories to my software sources before with never a problem, but now when I try to add a new repository the 'add source' button won't highlight and I am unable to add the repository. Does anyone have any idea why this might be because it is severely irritating me right now and I really don't want to have to completely reinstall Ubuntu to fix this.
