OpenSUSE :: KDE Cashew Loses Configure Plasma And Zoom Out

Feb 11, 2010

I'm trying out KDE4's activities, but one of the problems I keep having is the Plasma Toolboxes' (cashew) menu loses "Configure Plasma" and "Zoom Out".How do I get to "Configure Plasma" (i.e., Use a different activity on each desktop) when they are no longer on the Plasma Toolbox? How do Activities and Virtual Desktops work together? Do you use one or the other? Or, can each Virtual Desktop have multiple Activities?I'm having difficulties trying this because KDE4 seems to lose the "Configure Plasma" option.

General :: Installing Mint Over Ubuntu?

Sep 25, 2010

I recently downloaded Ubuntu, with Windows Vista dual booting. I am fed up because Ubuntu won't work with my Broadcom BCM4312 Network Connector. I have decided that I am going to install Linux Mint inplace of Ubuntu. The only thing I am worried about is: Will Mint give me the option of which partiton to put it on? I know this sounds stupid, but I am being very cautious about not deleting my files and Vista.

General :: Installing User Account In Mint 10 Julia

Jun 17, 2011

I have recently installed linux mint 10 Julia on my wife's Dell. I installed off CD from linux freedom website with the ftp download. My wife wanted her own account so I went to admin/users and groups and created her account. Or so I thought. When I tried to switch users (with the boot CD in and out of the drive) I got the follwing error:

1) "The panel encountered a problem while loading "OAFIID:GNOME_mintMenu" do you want to delete applet from your configuration?"

2) "The panel encountered a problem while loading "OAFIID:GNOME_IndicatorApplet" Do you want to delete the applet from your configuration?" Both of these had an orange word bubble with an exclamation point in it.

3) "Nautilus could not create the following required folders; :/home?tina?Disktop,/home/tina/.nautilus. Before running Nautilus, please create these folders or set permissions such that Nautilus can create them." This came in a red word bubble with an "x" in it. One last thing. When I installed linux mint 10 on my ancient compac (it has a pent 4 processor and had win 2K on it) all I had to do was plug in a usb wireless card and I was online. My wife's Dell has a wireless card built in and I can't find it in mint 10. How do I set up the wireless. Sorry for the "2 fer" but I'm pressed for time and have to get to work. I'm a copier tech/electrician and I'm good with the hardware but with the software, not so much. I'm sticking with linux no matter what the learning curve because my Mom gave me the compac evo thinking it was useless and I've brought it back to life with linux.

General :: Installing Windows Operating System Along With Mint?

May 18, 2011

I wished to know if I can install windows 7 on my system when I am already running Linux Mint 10(as the only operating system on my machine). That configuration is called a dual boot. If you install Win7 first (or it is already present), THEN install linux, you will find that grub notices both and you will not need to mess with the MBR. The better solution is to load mint, add VirtualBox, and install Win7 into a virtual machine. Then you get to run Linux and Windows AT THE SAME TIME!

Ubuntu :: 9.10 - Getting DVD To Install Mint 9

Jul 19, 2010

I'm now running ubuntu 9.10 and dual booting with 10.04. I want to check out Mint 9 (all 64 bit btw). I have downloaded Mint 9 64 and burned the ISO at the slowest speed and I've reburned it on many dvd's. When I put the dvd in and restart I can't get it to go to the dvd writer. It is set to be first in the bios and when I put in something else like GParted it works just fine. I'm not sure what the problem could be, perhaps a bad download? When I put in the dvd and go to Computer, the dvd shows up and I can see the Mint 9 iso file. I extracted the iso and here is the md5sum.txt:

Ubuntu :: Changed From Mint - Now Can't Print

Apr 22, 2010

Desktop PC Dual boot XP/Linux Mint Laptop was Dual boot Vista/Linux Mint.

Changed my Laptop set up from dual boot Vista/Linux Mint 8 to Vista/Ubuntu 9.10.

I have two printers one of which (Canon BJC300) is physically connected to the Desktop PC. The other is netorked through a wireless router. Worked find with Samba/Cups in Linux Mint. Can't get it to work with Ubuntu. (Linux Mint is based on Ubuntu).

Desktop PC Name is "pcname"
Desktop PC Workgroup is "pcworkgroup"
Printer Name is "Canon BJC 3000"
Not really but they'll do for the demo.

Set up printer in Ubuntu smb://pcworkgroup/pcname/Canon BJC 3000

Appears to accept it that but doesn't print. Times out with 'printer unaccessible'.

Where do I need to concentrate my efforts?

Are there some permissions I've overlooked. I haven't altered anything on the Desktop PC.

Ubuntu Installation :: Upgrade From Mint 8?

Last night I tried to run the upgrade to lucid, but it did not commit any changes, and the version is still listed as Mint 8 Helena, which is based on Karmic. I am guessing the Mint guys have set apt-get to look at the Mint repositories rather than Ubuntu. What do I need to do to bring my system up to version 10.04, including Gnome 2.30 and KDE 4.4.2?
