Ubuntu :: How To Install The SpringLobby Games

Nov 1, 2010

I really don't get typing commands; I wish most things you could just kill "Download" then "Install" then "OK" like windows, but whatever. Anyway, I heard that Ubuntu has free open source games, especially RTS's and I was stoked. It said I had to download something called SpringLobby. I thought THAT was the game, but I downloaded it and nothing happened. Apparently, I need it to download games. So anyway, all I want to is download and play the games on this site [URL], especially Balanced and Complete Annihilation, but everytime I click on "Download" I get this error.

Quote:

/tmp/JkVuiO8V.bin.part could not be saved, because the source file could not be read. Try again later, or contact the server administrator. Is there anything I can do to install and play these games quick?

Ubuntu :: How To Install Games From Software

Jan 12, 2011

We have some games that was installed with my win xp. Trying to switch over to ubuntu and did a fresh install which wiped everything and setup ubuntu. I have some sound on boot up, but was curious if our other games will work. I was able to get my train simulator installed but no sound. Here are my system specs: emachine desktop T3504, 3.20ghz, 533mhz fsb, 512kb L2 cache, 100gb seagate hard drive 2gb ram, Nvidia ge force 8400 gs 512mb ram. My sound was factory installed as a realtek HD audio. realtek 10/100 ethernet factory installed also. As far as boot up and connecting to the internet I am very pleased. I'm not a programmer but can install cards such as pci, ram. Got a bigger hard drive to put in but been having problems with pc trying to recognize it.

Ubuntu :: Possible To Install Games From Synaptic / To Usb Stick Or External Hdd?

Dec 10, 2010

Something that really irritates me in Ubuntu is the way these programs are being installed, because it takes disk space I don't have.In windows I can put all the files in the same folder and even choose where to install the stuff, but from synaptic in ubuntu all the game file are being installed in 100 different folders. games are huge and the more you build them up and save (maps, savefiles etc) the more disk space will be used (obviously). When I had windows I used a USB stick to save my current game on to and simply removed it them when I was ready for the next game.Because, usually I don't finish more than 1, 2 or 3 games at the same time.

Now, in linux most of the games are open source and are therefor always out with new versions or maps and other extras. This makes the game folders bigger.Another problem I see with the linux way of installing games is that when I once in awhile take a iso backup using Remastersys, it goes way above the top limit (4gb or something).I mean that we can't install the things wherever we want. I mean the programs are not a big deal because they are small, but games are huge and bigger the more you add to them.

I have steam installed on an external hard drive and can start it up with wine but whenever i try to run a game, the "starting (game name here)" screen comes up and then disappears and the game doesn't open. Ubuntu :: .iso Games Not Working?

May 1, 2011

A friend of mine gave me a few .iso games that will work just from the computer...not using a cd drive. I figured out how to do it in windows, it was pretty easy, but in ubuntu its not as easy. I got some tips on how to mount...and after some experimenting i got it to work. So i installed Morrowind thru Wine. And it starts the opening screen just fine (where you can pick "Play" "Options" etc.) But when i click play it gives me an error that it cant find a cd drive on my computer...because i use a netbook. why this is happening since i have it mounted. Also i am trying to use PlayOnLinux, since ive heard it is good at auto fixing problems that youd have to manually fix thru Wine, and id like to be able to run Morrowind thru that if possible.

Ubuntu :: Games Started But Getting No Sound At All

Feb 24, 2010

I switched to Linux but I was, and still am a gamer, and I have been trying to get some of my favorites to run on Linux as well as find Linux native games. While this hasn't been hard, I have run into a sort of Brick wall. I'll get games to start, but there will be no sound at all. The game runs fine though. When I try to close the game, it crashes/freezes.

This has puzzled me because some games that display this bug now did not previously, and at first this only occurred on one game. Now it occurs on all games. I've checked around, found a few similar bugs, but the closest people seem to get to fixing it is "just uninstall pulseaudio and use something else". It only happens in games, music and other sound works fine.

As for specs, I must say I'm fairly ignorant of some things, but getting better, here is what I do know.
Mint 8
Nvidia graphics card (can't recall what model)
Gnome Desktop

Ubuntu :: Sound Not Working With Games?

Mar 6, 2010

I already posted a topic about this but i got wrongly interpreted as someone gave me a link to a topic to restore your audio fully, which isn't necessairy, as I AM able to play music through rythmbox, on dvd's, on ........ but not on games.

I have a conexant Hi-Def audio on a HP laptop here, and when i typed in the code 'aplay -l' in the terminal, i got this:

[CODE]jakob@jakob-laptop:~$ aplay -l
**** List of PLAYBACK Hardware Devices ****
card 0: NVidia [HDA NVidia], device 0: CONEXANT Analog [CONEXANT Analog]
Subdevices: 0/1
Subdevice #0: subdevice #0

[Code]....

As you can see my conexantaudio driver is listed, but it does not seem to work with games.. I have 9.10 and in 9.04 it did work..

Ubuntu :: Run A Couple Of Games Through Wine?

Oct 18, 2010

i recently decided to try and run a couple of games through wine, however trying to install two of them through wine, after putting in the second cd in the installer, the system will not recognise/mount the cd at all in the filesystem. it will instantly recognise the cd after i quit the installer for both of the games, so i guess that running the wine setup is interfering with ubuntu's ability to read or mount a cd. since it has happened on two separate occasions and has worked on windows, there must be something happening on my system that is preventing it. so my question is has anybody else experienced this or think that they know what might be causing the problems?
