Ubuntu :: Appearance Theme Keeps Changing After 10.10 Upgrade

Dec 25, 2010

Just upgraded to 10.10. My appearance preferences are set to the "ambient" theme, but when I reboot, the system changes the toolbar/icons etc to the hideous "no-theme" (windows-looking grey with big icons) appearance. When I click on System->Preferences->Appearance it immediately loads up Ambience without me having to select it (like it knows that it's been naughty!) I'm on a tiny-screen netbook. I suspect that 10.10 is not saving the appearance settings properly.

Ubuntu :: Nautilus Does Not Respect GTK Theme Set In Appearance?

May 15, 2010

I have recently experienced an odd issue regarding Nautilus and the GTK theming. No matter what theme is set in the "Appearance" dialog, Nautilus shows the bland default GTK theme with the title bars of the theme set in Appearance.I think this is related to an error regarding GConf I saw once, but never again. It flashed so quickly on shutdown that I did not have time to note down what it says. This issue effects the desktop as well

Ubuntu :: Can't Get GTK Theme To Show Up In Appearance Preferences

May 19, 2010

I installed a theme called 'elementary' and it said I also needed an iconset for it too.so I tried applying that too.but that just said cant move directory over directory. I searched around and found a "solution" that made things worse. Before I applied the "solution" I had the theme working without the icons set.., the so called solution told me to go to my home and press control+h then go to the .themes directory and delete the theme folder and that's what I did... after that everything stopped working.

I got the iconset working but the theme itself is not showing up on the appearence preferences, the current theme is my previous one.. and when I go to customise theme, then window boder tab.. I see the elementary theme there with a question mark on top of the faded thumbnail,I can't seem to delete it too..

edit: when I select the theme custom it says this theme will not work as intended because the required window manager theme 'elementary' is not installed.

Ubuntu :: Theme Only Works For Appearance Preferences Window?

Oct 17, 2010

I got a new computer recently, and just now installed 10.10. Everything was going great.... until when I enabled the Nvidia drivers and set my dual monitors. While things still work fine, it appears I have no theme set (Aside from the Window Border).

When I check in System->Preferences->Appearance it always shows the theme properly for this one window, while all other windows, and gnome panels etc appear to have no theme set (just use simple flat colours, low graphic mode etc).

Changing the theme (via the Appearance window) does not work, nor does a simple reboot.

Ubuntu :: Appearance Preferences Override Firefox Tango Theme

Mar 6, 2011

I just upgraded to ubuntu 10.04 from 9.10, and one of the first things I did was to find a nice desktop theme. I tried several from gnome-look.org and eventually settled on one called "the days of grace"

Anyway, somewhere along the way, while trying out themes, I used a script provided by a theme author which installed the theme automatically, which had undesirable results. I don't remember the theme that did this, so I'll just call it theme x. The theme x script somehow made firefox use theme x instead of the default firefox "tango" theme, and now the tango theme is not available, because the theme x theme supersedes it.

The theme x does not show up in ubuntu's appearance preferences, but somehow it looks to be linked to the theme I chose, "the days of grace." I can switch to a default ubuntu theme (Ambiance, Radiance, etc.) and I have my firefox tango theme back.

Does anyone know how I can delete this theme x theme, and get back the tango firefox theme?

OpenSUSE :: Display - Desktop Appearance And Theme Settings Not Working

Aug 14, 2011

I've been trying to get familiar with this over the past 24 hours or so. I assume I've been somewhat successful in what I'm attempting to do, as I can work my way around a bit now and use some terminal commands. However, there is this display problem I seem to be encountering with certain windows which is extremely putting off. When I click options like 'File' or 'Edit' in a window, this is what I get. Here are the screenshots below.

This is what I get when I click the 'Volume' button in the Panel at the bottom of the screen. I have tried changing the Desktop Appearance Settings, Theme Settings but nothing seems to work. Although this is not a performance issue, it is hampering my vision of the various available options, and I would like to resolve it at once.

Ubuntu :: Changing The Default Live CD Desktop Appearance?

Mar 25, 2010

recently I have been trying to create the perfect custom ubuntu .iso to write to a usb drive so i could carry around a live cd version of my current desktop operating system. I have 2 problems...

1: using various tools like Remastersys, Ubuntu Customization Kit, and Ubuntu's own LiveCDCustomization tutorial I have managed to install most of the packages that I want.... Truecrypt is not in the repos and i would very much like it on my custom live cd. while in chroot i tried using wget to download it then extract and install it, but i got a 404 error so it did not seem to be connecting to the place to download it. is there a workaround to getting truecrypt to install into my extracted squashfs? would it be possible to download the packages to my desktop then copy them over to my chroot squashfs to be installed?

2: I have not been able to customize the default appearance of the desktop environment like the background, icons, colors, window border, panels, applets, and so on.... Ubuntu's tutorial states that I need to edit .xmls in /etc/gconf but i do not understand how to edit those to get what I want. LiveCD creates a new user with default settings everytime it is started so its a matter of editing the files that control the settings of a new user.

Fedora Security :: How To Prevent The Appearance Changing Window Running

May 21, 2009

I want to prevent users changing the wallpaper, as i couldn't found any direct method I thought of preventing the /usr/bin/gnome-appearance-properties being running,

I know that the user also can set the wallpaper without running that . But didn't found any other way .

I tried to use SELinux to it and I'm stuck at writing a own policy.

According to SELinux, it prevents everything ., but as i have mapped the user to a SElinux user ,even though he can use administrative tasks , he can run the appearance window. that means he has got the permission from a different policy , Currently I'm stuck at this place.

Suitable way to prevent the wallpaper being changed by the normal users.

Ubuntu :: Gnome Theme Keeps Changing?

moments after I log in to my Ubuntu 10.10 32-bit desktop my theme reverts to the "classic" Ubuntu theme and icons. I can open appearance and change it back, but I have to do this every time I log on. It also changes the theme, but whenever I right click my desktop or open Nautilis, it still looks like the "classic" theme. Is this an already existing problem? is there a fix?

Ubuntu :: Self Changing Desktop Theme?

Oct 27, 2010

Ubuntu 10.04 LTS on a Dell XPS Studio 8000 - I find that on occasion the desktop theme seems to change itself. I have selected Clearlooks. The desktop generally looks correct as shown in the first attachment. Then for some unknown reason the desktop changes - most obvious are the buttons which are now square cornered rather than round cornered. See the second attachment. Appearance Preferences usually still shows the Theme as Clearlooks although I have had it change to "Custom" a time or two. Logout/login does not fix the problem. A reboot will fix the problem and return to the correct Clearlooks Theme

Ubuntu :: Changing The Kubuntu Boot Splash Theme At Startup?

Jul 22, 2010

I recently installed kubuntu-kde and it changed the boot splash theme from an orange logo on a purple background to tourqoise on blue. How do I change it back?

In KDE, I can navigate to Settings > System Settings > Appearance > Splash Screen but that's not what i'm looking for. I'm not trying to change KDE's Splash Screen that shows when you load the KDE window manager after logging in as a user. Further, I'm not trying to change grub's boot splash image, which renders this guide useless.

I want to change the boot splash theme which lasts 25 seconds that is shown between the time your select the kernel in grub2 and the time gdm loads. Right now it says "Kubuntu" in an ugly way and I want to change it back to what it was originally before I installed KDE. I want it to say "Ubuntu" as it should by default.

OpenSUSE :: Changing GTK And Icon Theme In Gnome3?

Apr 8, 2011

I'm slowly getting used to Gnome 3 and trying to give it a chance. After a few oddities (like it swallowing my Gnome Shell and Tilda invocations because I use Super in them) then I think I'm slowly getting used to it. There are still some things I miss from Compiz, but it has potential and I like some bits (the notifications and dialogs).I don't know what got upgraded, but my themes seemed to be working before yet today I've got the default Sonar rather than my darker Sonar theme with a fixed Chromium style. I've managed to change the titlebar theme, but I can't change the GTK theme or the icon theme.

Running "gsettings get org.gnome.desktop.interface icon-theme" reports "Tango-green", but I still have the default icon theme and using Appearances only partially works.Running "gsettings get org.gnome.desktop.interface gtk-theme" reports "SonarLighter" (the menu bar is lighter to match the Uniq theme) but I'm definitely seeing Sonar.I've tried gnome-tweak-tool from someone's OBS, but various dependencies seem to be missing (first it bails with the wrong GI version, then I updated some other bits and tried again, but even after switching a dozen or more packages then it never started).
