I dont get my multitouch screen working. I have a Stantum screen (1f87:0002) and a GMA500 video driver with emgd and Xorg 1.9 I get a lot of output from evtest, xinput list-props, mtview etc. but no output from gesturetest or geistest. I have no idea where to proceed. (after successfully getting utouch-compiz working a second finger touch was not recognised as next single-input anymore)
View 1 RepliesI've heard about the multitouch out in ubuntu 10.10 and have a touchscreen but it doesn't seem to work on it no matter what I do. I have googled everything on it and still no luck. I got an acer eee and use windows most of the time because of this barrier does anyone know how to fix this? Is anyone else having the same problem as me?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI've been working on this for weeks, and I can't get my egalax touchscreen to work with gestures in Natty. I believe I have been booting in Unity, but have tried in the traditional Gnome-top as well.
The screen just works like a one button mouse. I get out put from the mtdev-test, but nothing from gesture test. I've tried with and without the egalax-multitouch-driver-common installed.
There is no xorg.conf, but I don't think there should be one.
how do you config ubuntu to work with multitouch... like Utouch?? using ubuntu 10.10

View 5 Replies View RelatedI hate OSX. I have however gotten very used to the multitouch trackpad on my aluminum MacbookPro. So, I would like to blow away OSX and install Ubuntu native. I was wondering if I will loose multitouch capability if I do this though. Mainly 2 finger tap for right click, and two finger scroll. My MacbookPro is rev 5,2.Are there any other issues I should think about before taking the plunge?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI just found out that many Synaptics touchpads are capable of multi-touch and it's possible to do 2-finger scrolling and more.I have enabled this functionality in windows and I am sure now that the touchpad inside my laptop is capable of that.In Fedora 13 (64-bit), however, I was unable to make it working. I found a guide for Linux (Ubuntu) right here:URL... In Ubuntu it multitouch worked without problems after following the guide.
I first thought that I screwed something up on my Fedora and downloaded/ran live Fedora 13 64-bit disk to see if this trick will work with Fedora intact. After trying that guide in live Fedora CD I quickly found out that I couldn't enable multitouch the same way as on Ubuntu.I have no idea what could be different. Both Fedora and Ubuntu had Synaptics driver installed on live CDs (and on my installed Fedora too).
I switch over from old laptop to a new one. This one has now a multitouch touchpad wich annoys me. With my old laptop i could select a text and paste it with middle mouse button or with 2 buttons enabled from the touchpad.
Now i moved my existing ssd drive from my old laptop to my new one, so the software and configuration is the same.
I can pasting nothing anymore by pushing in left&right on the touchpad. Due the multitouch i presume? Copy/Paste aint working anymore with urxvt. I would like to get this behaviour back because it's plain simple, fast and works almost everywhere.
C/P Still works with the middle mouse buttons but i don't use a mouse all the time.
How to get pasting work with multitouch?
I'm fairly new to touch screens. I'm having a look on Amazon at multi touch monitors like an HP 2310ti and it seems everybody just accepts that Windows 7 can handle it out of the box.
How does it work? I can't find any resources explaining how the PC receives the input from the touch screen.
Do I need to connect the PC with the monitor via USB, or is there wireless/bluetooth technology embedded in the monitor like in a wireless keyboard/mouse? How does Linux handle such a monitor out of the box? Does it recognize something like 2 connected mouse devices? I read about a few projects trying to implement this stuff in Xorg/GTK, but it seems to be pretty experimental at current state (because there is little information, if any, on this topic).
I'm having a bit of trouble setting up Multitouch for my current setup. I have gone through and tried setting it with synclient, but when I place both of my fingers on the touchpad, the pointer jumps/jitters around.

I stopped gnome-panel from booting altogether by going into the configuration editoring to "/desktop/gnome/session/required_components" changing the panel key to "gnome-panel(Orig)" so that the command just errors out. Then adding a key in that same path the key is a string "avant-window-navigator". Since I've done this the screensaver doesn't come up. Also pidgin never goes idle. Both are set to hit at thirty minutes but have not hit in almost a day. I thought the mouse might be moving slowly or something butunplugged it and let it sit for almost an hour and nothing. Also at that time I had a VirtualBox with Windows XP in it and that screensaver hit no problem

This a problem because i cant do anything but hit alt f2 to open up terminal and google chrome and what not.access my display settings to set it up to mirror the screen because i have no top bar.all i have access to is a my display background.I'm using ubuntu 10.10 but i'm in 10.4 mode right now.
View 1 Replies View RelatedA week or two ago the machine did not want to shut down unless I switch the power off, although starting did not have any problems. On Wednesday I downloaded a few extras including a pdf reader and updated the PC as well. I switched off on Wednesday evening and on Thursday morning the PC would start, the UBUNTU screen would appear and then just a blank screen. I tried several times to restart, but no success.
After several times of trying to restart I decided my only solution would be to re-install which I did. To my surprise this took quite some time and not as the original installation which only took a few minutes. The additional problem is that I kept windows with most of my documents still in windows. This did not pose a problem after the 1st installation as I could easily access the files.
However now I just cannot find any of those files and not even the original files saved in UBUNTU. I fortunately have a back-up on an external drive, but do not want to access that before I am sure that they will remain safe. I unfortunately do not understand the jargon being used even when someone says that I have to change something in the backend or in the program itself. I do not even know to open such a screen.
I am using ubuntu 11.04 32 bit. I tried to use my keyboard, until yesterday it works perfect. But this morning, I can not even login to my own desktop, as I do not see any feedback from the login screen when I type using the keyboard. completely white, nothing shown when I type using the keyboard. I tried different keyboards, it still won't work in the login screen. I tried to type to access bios, it works fine.I managed to remote using ssh, but when I type dmsg, it recognise the keyboard.
View 1 Replies View Relatedafter getting my keyboard and mouse working (URL... not even when I was compiling kernels from floppies that came in the back of books did I have to work so hard to get the KEYBOARD working, sheesh), I have a mostly working system.However, Lock Screen does not work in any way, shape or form:
- It doesn't work via the keyboard shortcut Ctrl+Alt+L
- It doesn't work if I select it from the Power button on the upper-right
- It doesn't work if I press the Power button to suspend (even though all the correct things are ticked/unticked in gconf-editor)
- It doesn't work if I switch users and back
Now, I do have a laptop running 11.04 and its Lock Screen *does* work. The only difference I can find is that the laptop says gdm is running screensaver.If it shouldn't be running, why else might Lock Screen not be working?
I'm trying to get a touch screen working with Ubuntu 10.04LTS (32bit) //changed to 32 bit -it is a serial touchsceen, connected at /dev/ttyS0 ,i know that works because I get garbage in the terminal when I enable it. -before the screen used a 3m driver (I believe) in XP.
My knowledge of Linux is passive so I generally pick up something when I need it. To get this working I came accross a lot of tutorials (a lot outdated a bit), I'm still at a loss to get this work.
I'm not sure where to put linux drivers (/usr/ or /dev/?) most tutorials kind of skip over that part. I have tried editing the /etc/X11/xorg.conf unsuccessfully. I'm not sure what the syntax for that is supposed to be.
I just installed 9.10 on my acer as a second partition. The only problem I am having is my split screen is not working correctly. They just mirror each other so I have basically 2 monitors doing exactly the same thing. No splits. My graphics card is nvidia geforce 7300 LE.

Not a green tint, just a green block if you know what i mean. My desktop is running ubuntu 9.10. Ive fiddles around with all the settings in gstreamer-proerties and i cant figure it out.

But when I maximize any application(be it chrome, firefox, vlc, media player), the whole screen becomes white and when I escape from it to make it of small window, it again runs normally. Sometimes it work fine, but most of the times it is like what I told above. Please tell me some solution or I will have to go back to windows.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI'm on a LG E500-VAP36P, with 3gb RAM, 250 Gb SATA HDD (Kubuntu Hardy kernel 2.6.27-9-generic), and my keyboard and my usb mouse don't work at the login screen. My touchpad works and my keyboard works in command-line session. This is my xorg.conf. I also attach a relevant part of my syslog.

Not beeing an expert on Ubuntu, but loving it running on my old Dell Dimension 2400 Series, I do have some issues after the upgrade to 9.10.
1) Frozen screen after a while working with the system. Cursor moves, but frozen
2) Black screen at startup.
Retyping this message again on my Mac Laptop as Ubuntu froze again. I took the following action: Followed directions as listed here [URL]
1. Select recovery mode from the boot menu.
2. Select login as root from the menu in recovery mode.
3. Type this at the prompt
# sudo apt-get remove xorg-driver-fglrx
# sudo dpkg-reconfigure -phigh xserver-xorg
4. Exit
# exit
5. Now select Resume normal boot from the menu.
Every thing should be OK by now. This seemed to work, but after another reboot, black screen again. System Specs: [URL]. Running with 1 GB of Memory and 320Gb Hard Disk /w 2Gb Swap and 318 Gb Extended.
First I tried VNC. Easy install through Ubuntu GUI, but I could only see a still picture of the Ubuntu-desktop that wouldn't update. I could see on the Ubuntu monitor that the cursor was moving and the keyboard did work, but on my Windows computer, the screen didn't refresh. Then I read a bit on the forums and people seemed content with nomachine NX or freenx. After a bit of hazzle I finally managed to get a connection between my Windows and Ubuntu-machine. But the same thing happened here. I get to see a still picture of the Ubuntu desktop, mouse and keyboard working, but the screen doesn't refresh..!

Nothing worked.For most or many people, some of the suggestions will work fine. For those of you who can't get them to work and are stuck with Ubuntu 10.04 on the NC20 with a dimmed-out screen, I have a quick workaround:
When you boot and get to the BIOS password prompt, use the function and up-down array keys to control the brightness there. The screen brightness will be carried through to Ubuntu. You might be able to do this at the GRUB prompt. The point is that the BIOS handles the screen brightness before Ubuntu, so it just works.
I have Laptop sony VPCEA22EN. I have installed ubuntu 10.04. it was working fine. Then i installed kubuntu-desktop. it was working fine. i tried to some of bugs using kubuntu update manager. i restarted the laptop.
after that im not able to logon on kubuntu. on kubuntu logon screen i'm unable to enter username n password. Keyboard and mouse is not detected but, usb mouse works.
i tried ctrl+alt+esc, this combination doesnt work while booting. i can't use this combination on log-on screen because keyboard is not detected.
Just fitted an Inno3D (I-7300LE-G4E3) graphics card and I get a distorted boot up screen, a virtually unreadble boot menu (lots of extra white bits all over the screen) and when the system is booting the black screen with "booting from .." and the underscore at the end, is covered with white commas (?!), then the login screen pops up for a fraction of a second, then get a blank screen and no signal-cant get anything after this (or from the vga port on the pc)-I ve tried logging in even though I cant see anything, but no music , nothing.
Thought I might have to download drievers AFTER I d installed it, but as I had this problem, I removed it and tried to download driers before installation. Not sure which of the 4 to try, but tried 2 and neither works-GDebi is offered as an app to open them but nothing happens, nothing happens if I just click on them and when I try and install them from a terminal with the script from the nVidia site, it says unable to open them.

I bought it a couple of weeks ago and I tried to install Windows on it, but it was displayed in only 16 colors ( I assume this is not connected to my current problem but it might be...) and I couldn't fix that so I installed Ubuntu 10.4.something( It asked me if I wanted to upgrade to the newest version...) . Since then I have been really happy, I only had minor problem with the chat software but after I googled it I found a solution and I even used the console for the first time in my life.
The problem with the chat software is back now, but I don't care about that.My Computer randomly stops working and the screen goes all weird. It switches between a mix of white and black bars, something really colorful and a black screen with text ( I have the feeling it's different text every time) I am not sure what happens after that, because I always turn it off and restart it. It won't react to anything when it is in this weird mode. I don't think there are any special situations in which it happens and I can't reproduce it, it just happens when I don't want it to happen. A friend who uses Linux said it might be a temperature problem, he only knew what I just told you. I am not sure if there is a connection between the time the computer has been on and the time it shuts off...I really like Linux and I would love to use it without ith when I said that I got my PC new ( it was used though) I was trying to say that I don't know whether this is a Ubuntu problem or not
