i am having some problems with pear pc I installed from synaptic and then there was no icon so ran "pear pc" in the terminal but nothing happend how do i get pear pc to work
I have pear installed, but I'n not sure I have it configured properly.
When I do a phpinfo(), no where are the settings for pear (meaning where it's located). If I recalled there is supposed to be a setting displayed there for PEAR.
I am trying to setup APC on my Fedora 7 server but cant install php-pear. There are loads of sites explaining how to do this but they all use "yum install php-pear" which yum cant seem to find??
root@fedora7 [/etc/apt]# yum install php-pear Loading "fastestmirror" plugin Repository base is listed more than once in the configuration Loading mirror speeds from cached hostfile * base: p3mirror01.prod.phx3.secureserver.net code....

When I try to install anything it tells me to check my internet connetction which i know works just fine, it says that cannot connect to [my_ip]:8080 and I manually opened the port and nothing, i disabled the firewall and have no proxy running, it also gives me the info that connection(111:refused) What do I do?

I just upgraded my computer to Ubuntu 10.04 Lucid. Whenever I open Synaptic Package Manager it opens normally. If I type into the "Quick search" box, when I try to type in a word as soon as I type the second letter Synaptic immediately closes. However, if I click on the full "Search" button, this function works as it should. I just can't use Quick Search. Synaptic closes every time.
I uninstalled synaptic from a terminal by typing
apt-get remove synaptic. Then I reinstalled using
apt-get install synaptic. Reinstalling did not fix the problem. Does anyone have an idea how to fix this?
When I try to open Synaptic Package Manager and update-manager it gives me the following error message: 'E:Type 'n' is not known on line 2 in source list /etc/apt/sources.list.d/banshee-team-ppa-maverick.list, E:The list of sources could not be read.' How to solve this error because my system cannot update or install any new application.
On Ubuntu 10.04, Synaptic indicates that current version {10.0.32.18-1(now) for AdobeFlash plugin} is latest but websites appear to indicate that latest version is 10.0.45-1. Synaptic Upgrade button is grayed and I am stuck! All came about by accessing following site: ... Had to revert to Firefox on XP (!) to see diagram. Is there a more current (latest) version for Firefox under Ubuntu 10.04 and if so, how do I go about installing it? I tried to download and got a "Status: Error: Conflicts with installed package 'flashplugin installer'" when I clicked on the .deb file.
Since upgrading to Natty I have a very annoying issue and since I am unable to resolveWhenever I start the synaptics package manager I get the following message:An error occurred:E: dpkg was interrupted, you must manually run 'sudo dpkg --configure -a' to correct the problem. E: _cache->open() failed, please report.Once I run sudo dpkg --configure -a from the terminal this is what I get:Setting up xulrunner-1.9.1 (1.9.1.18~hg20110309r27352+nobinonly-0ubuntu1~umd1) ...No further progress the machine hangs indefinitely on this, need to kill terminal to exit. Even hours waiting does not show any progress.
This happened completely randomly. One day, my synaptic and update manager is working fine and the next day, I open one of them and get a error window that doesn't say anything (no details on the error). So, i tried the terminal, sudo apt-get update, and this message shows:
Reading package lists... Error! E: Problem parsing dependency Depends E: Error occurred while processing libtartup-notificamion0-dev (NewVersion1) E: Problem with MergeList /var/lib/apt/lists/archive.ubuntu.com_ubuntu_dists_karmic_main_binary-i386_Packages E: The package lists or status file could not be parsed or opened.
I've just reinstalled Ubuntu and when I try to remove mounted drives from desktop with gconf-editor/apps/natilus/desktop it doesn't work. Mounted drives still show up.
I am using Red Hat EL 4. I am facing a bizzare issue. Just like that I rebooted my PC. When it booted up, I am not able to see my icons in desktop and also right click does not work.
Well, I was just doing an update, and there was an update for git that was held back. I decided to force this update using 'sudo apt-get dist-upgrade', and installation of git then failed. At this point in Synaptic - I could see versions listed as 'lucid', 'lucid-security', and then this ppa version. Then I barely managed to remove git - but now, if I try to install it again, *only* the ppa version is listed in Synaptic - no more 'lucid' and 'lucid-security' versions!!! Does anyone have an idea how I could recover the 'lucid', 'lucid-security' versions? I will try to salvage as much of the terminal with the problems as I can below...

I host a webpage from my PC, and I was having all kinds of issues trying to get it to send emails. These steps send and receive the email through a gmail account. This page saved me.
Here are the simple steps 0. get a gmail account 1. install pear Code: sudo apt-get install php-pear
2. Install pear packages: (I'm not really sure what this does, but I did it, and everything is working) Code: sudo pear install -o Mail sudo pear install -o Net_SMTP
3. run php script to send email. Code: <?php // Include the Mail package require "Mail.php"; // Identify the sender, recipient, mail subject, and body .....
I am running CentOS 5.4, which I am occasionally managing via VNC from windows machine. This all occured after one long VNC session although I can't confirm this was the real reason. I also must say that I've seen some posts from people that had the same problem, but not anything helpful. Here is what happens:
Even if I start the machine from scratch I get the following error messages just before the login prompt and type of session window shows:
COULDN'T RECOGNIZE THE IMAGE FILE FORMAT FOR THE FILE '/USR/SHARE/GDM/THEMES/TREEFLOWER/BACKGROUND.PNG
THERE WAS AN ERROR LOADING THE THEME AND THE DEFAULT THEME COULD NOT BE LOADED. ATEMPTING TO START THE STANDARD GREETER.
If I choose GNOME and login I get more errors (for every icon I guess) saying:
COULD NOT LOAD ICON. UNRECOGNIZED FILE FORMAT.
Desktop then loads but there is no background image (other backgrounds don't work either) and the icons are question marks. All the menus and programs work normally. KDE on the other hand works normally with all visuals, so I assume there must be something wrong with GDE PNG library or something, maybe GDE corruption. If I make another user it's the same story.
I need to install pear. my php version is 5.2. i read the pear manual and it says that the pear installation should have been there unless it has been compile with ./configure without pear. i went to phpinfo and realise that i have '--without-pear' in Configure Command.
I want to install extension into PHP, but it seems like it's only installed by pear, and for pear I need php-pear which wants to install php-cli. I already have php-cgi with fcgi and Apache2 worker MPM.
I installed Fedora 12 yesterday. After installation, I added some packages like gstreamer*, amarok, vlc etc. Once I rebooted, all desktop icons became invisible and I'm unable to open file browser and browse files/folders. When I log out, I get this message saying "File Manager not responding!"
I initially thought I messed up with settings, and created a new account. Still no use.
BTW, I use Gnome Desktop Environment.
I went further and installed Fedora 12 again. And did the same package installation. And after reboot, no desktop items is visible and can't browse files/folders using file browser (nautilus).
I'm running the turnkey linux version of joomla and I need to use PHP's mail functionality to send a notification email from a page (separate from joomla content) . PHP's native stuff is rather plain and I find myself needing the functionality of PEAR. So I've installed PEAR via aptitude, but it has installed to /usr/share/php.
how do I include these files from php scripts? Firstly, the files are owned by root, the www-data user doesn't have access. It also appears that the permissions on the files may need to be modified. Some php files don't have the execute flag (shouldn't they)? I recognize the point of having a centralized location for updates and sharing, so I don't want to just copy the files to my web directory (/var/www).
I was trying to install PEAR on a remote Ubuntu server using putty. I ran an apt-get install php-pear command and everything went smoothly, but now i cannot access the website as it says 'can't establish a connection to the server' and in firebug, it shows the status 'aborted'. I even tried adding the pear path in php.ini file and restarting the apache server but no luck.
I have 2 new repos that are listed in my sources.list file. They are also visible in System/Administration/Software Sources/Other Software. However, they are not visible under the Origins tab in Synaptic. And how would I download from them if Synaptic doesn't see them?
