Ubuntu :: Gedit Slow When Editing PHP Files?

Jul 10, 2010

This started a while back... but I'm not sure when. Whenever I'm editing one of my PHP files it takes 1+ seconds for it to write the letter I type. I tried it on HTML and it's perfectly fine. I tried going to .gconf/apps and deleting the gedit-2 file, but it didn't help. And I tried disabling the File Browser Pane plugin and it did nothing. And one more thing, it might just be some PHP files, because about half of mine are really slow like that, but the other half is perfectly fine.

Debian Multimedia :: Slow Typing Response In Gedit

Sep 2, 2014

I am having some issues with the typing speed in gedit. When typing the response is usually really slow,It can be up to a second or so between rendering keystrokes. I don't believe it has anything to do with resources. I have checked the processes running when it happens and everything looks pretty normal cpu usuage is also very low at the time. The system is very responsive with everything else at the time.

I only have this problem with gedit, gvim, vim, nano etc are fine. Maybe an issue with a GTK lib of some sort? The problem happens with very small files like little bash scripts. I have including some info about the system ...

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Video Editing With A Slow Computer?

Dec 17, 2010

I want to do a stop-motion but I cannot find a program that has all the option I want and that is useable for me. I tried with Kdenlive that has all the option I want, but when I want to see the preview of my video, it lagged at every new image. Is there a format, a way to configure kdenlive or something else that would make it easier for my computer. Or even another program that do what I want but is less demanding then Kdenlive. All I want is to put picture one after the other, adjust the time they appear and add some text and sound.

Ubuntu :: Certain Txt Files Won't Open In Gedit

Jun 13, 2010

I have a few .txt files that when opened in gedit give me an error "Could not open the file - gedit has not been able to detect the character encoding" HOWEVER, I can see some of the contents of the files (a few words) in the icon preview in nautilus. Also, I can open these documents in notepad (using wine) though I'd prefer to use gedit.

These might not all be txt files. I know one is directory of important phone numbers that was in some obscure format that could only be opened on a nokia phone.

General :: Gedit On Mac Can Be Used To Edit Files Over Ssh?

Feb 4, 2011

I use a linux machine at work and a mac at home. I can ssh from my machine at home to my work machine. But the only editor that I have access to on the command line then is vi, which I don't like.

Is there a way to use gedit on my mac to edit files remotely over an ssh connection?

This page says that it can be done, but I think that it assumes that you are using gedit on ubuntu. On my mac (os 10.5.8) I don't have the "bookmark" option when I click "connect to server".

CentOS 5 :: Can't Open Cpp Files In Gedit - Couldn't Display ?

Mar 23, 2011

I have just finished an install of Cent 5.5. I loaded up a trunk for a software application I want to compile on cent, but I cannot read the .cpp files. The issue seems to be with the file extension. If I change the extension to .txt, they open just fine. My .FOR, .FPP, and .DAT files display fine, but the .cpp and .h give me an error, "Couldn't display...". What is the problem here that won't let me open these files in gedit?

Ubuntu :: FileZilla Not Opening Remote Files And Not Recognising The Default Editor Gedit?

May 26, 2010

I just started using FireFTP instead of FileZilla because I got fed up with FileZilla not opening remote files and not recognising the default editor Gedit.

I really want to use keyboard shortcuts with FireFTP, which is possible according to the help docs on-line, but there is no option to use shortcuts anywhere even having enabled FireFTP to open in a new window. I tried it in Shiretoko 3.59 and Firefox 3.18 with no luck.

I just tried removing FileZilla and it does not appear in my list of installed apps. It appears in the full list as uninstalled but when ticking the box to install gives this message. FileZilla FTP client cannot be installed on your computer type (i386). Either the application requires special hardware features or the vendor decided to not support your computer type. I already have FileZilla..so how is that?

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Editing Quicktime .mov Files?

Jun 4, 2010

I created a quicktime .mov movie file in iMovie on a Mac (that is not available anymore) and I want to 1) play & 2) edit the movie. I'd be happy to use a different format if I can figure out how to change it. Has anyone else done this?

Edit: If you skip down to post #16 you'll see I discovered it actually isn't a matter of editing a .mov file, but it turns out I don't have a properly exported quicktime .mov file. Instead I have (I'm not sure but I think its iMovie ver. 4.) 1) an .iMovieProj text file that lists the cuts by frame in and frame out, 2) an .mov file that isn't the complete file I thought it was and 3) a folder of all the clips that are in Apple's Quicktime DV format. In this thread people taught me about transcoding from the Apple's Quicktime DV format to liberated formats easier to work with. Given this knowledge and since I have a list of the cuts I'm asking if people could recommend a Linux video editor that would be easy to enter the tedious frame in, frame out info so I could reassemble the video.

I use Mac OS X, and I wonder it's common in UNIX. In this case, is there any way to keep B as a (soft link) to A? Or, make B as the hard link would be the only way to solve this issue? What's the advantage of using soft link than hard link? The editor that I use is 'TextMate' on Mac.
