Ubuntu Multimedia :: Recommend Good Id3tag Batch?

Sep 1, 2011

I am missing in my natty some good tool to operate on id3 tags of my mp3. - Could you recommend one that you are/were using ? I don't use Rhythmbox or Banshee and need other, an "external" tool. Alternatively, it could be plugin for Audacious (v2.5) but it needs to have at least elements of batch processing as I have large and messy and hairy and greasy music collection to be sorted out

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Recommend A Good Player For A Large (~900GB) Music Collection?

May 7, 2011

i've recently installed 11.04 and am giving banshee a shot. it seems pretty good although has crashed a few times. but when i import my music folders (about 900GB, 175,000 items .. and growing..) it takes days. that's not such a big problem because it only needs to be indexed once, i assume, ... but the UI is very slow now - so that clicking on an album can take several seconds to bring up the tracklist. also typing into the search box there is a large delay before the matches are shown. is this just to be expected for such a large db? i recall i had google desktop indexing and returning results almost immediately back on winblows.. other ones i have tried include rhythmbox , amarok, songbird .. but have not found any of them to be stable and simple enough to my liking.

can anyone recommend a good player , my essential requirement is a fast and efficient indexing - with tag support would be grand, but just based on filenames is ok too. drag and drop into a play queue like rhthmbox had would be nice.

Software :: Need To Transfer Huge Number Of Files - Good FTP Program?

Oct 26, 2009

I need to transfer some massive amount of data (2.5terrabyte, many files, directory structure) to a embedded raid-box which has a minimal linux on it (some custom distro from western digital). We tried rsync (version 2.6.7), but it crashes because the filelist is too big for the ram available (fixed in later versions of rsync, but I don't know how to update, it's not debian based and there are no compiler tools). We tried nfs, but the max bandwidth produced is around 1 mb/sec (cpu bound?), so it'd take around 3 weeks this way. Samba has problems with big files (and we have some 20gb files in there).

SCP isn't installed, and would probably also be cpu bound due to encryption I think. So the only option left would be ftp, we're currently trying using ncftp with the command "put -R /path/to/data/" , but it's been running for over an hour, eating up most of the ram, and not using any bandwidth. I think it is still building a file list or something. FTP already worked for a single 20gb file with acceptable bandwidth of about 12mb/sec. Does anyone know a better ftp program (for console) that can start transferring some data or at least display an estimated time for the copy-preperation?

Something would simply let me load a Soundfont, and then edit and export a multi-track midi file without a bunch of other stuff you have to do?

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Editing Quicktime .mov Files?

Jun 4, 2010

I created a quicktime .mov movie file in iMovie on a Mac (that is not available anymore) and I want to 1) play & 2) edit the movie. I'd be happy to use a different format if I can figure out how to change it. Has anyone else done this?

Edit: If you skip down to post #16 you'll see I discovered it actually isn't a matter of editing a .mov file, but it turns out I don't have a properly exported quicktime .mov file. Instead I have (I'm not sure but I think its iMovie ver. 4.) 1) an .iMovieProj text file that lists the cuts by frame in and frame out, 2) an .mov file that isn't the complete file I thought it was and 3) a folder of all the clips that are in Apple's Quicktime DV format. In this thread people taught me about transcoding from the Apple's Quicktime DV format to liberated formats easier to work with. Given this knowledge and since I have a list of the cuts I'm asking if people could recommend a Linux video editor that would be easy to enter the tedious frame in, frame out info so I could reassemble the video.

Ubuntu :: Good OS Backup Program?

Jul 16, 2010

Ok, Noobe to Ubuntu, recently installed Lucid, did all the updates, Got my UT 99 loaded and working natively with TeamSpeak 3 (yea, even the sound works now) ... I really like the setup I have now. Can some one recommend a good backup program to use that will "completely" backup my current system "as installed"? I have installed "Back in Time", and it seems really easy to use, but I'm looking for something similar to (sorry have to say it "Windows System Restore").

I've tweaked and tweaked, updated my ALSA drivers, working openAL and got the latest ATI driver installed for my ATI 5770 ... even got a Xfi linux beta working from Creative (that was fun).. Something user friendly too, I'm learning, but still very new to Linux/commandline/Ubuntu.

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Recommend A Streaming Method?

Nov 15, 2010

I have access to a video stream that is only available in certain areas. I would like to re-broadcast this stream to other users. What method would you suggest? I tried using WebCamStudio but that method basically records my desktop and the video quality degrades to the point of being unable to view it clearly. I've seen some pretty clear re-broadcast streams on justin.tv or ustream, but typically when I ask the operator they're using some type of Windows software. Does anyone have a suggestion for doing this on Ubuntu? Does anyone here do any live streams or re-broadcasts using Ubuntu, or any Linux-based distro?

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Cant Edit Raw Files With Any Program?

Apr 15, 2010

I haven't put this in the forums for any of the separate programs, because im having the same problem in all of them, im thinking maybe its a problem elsewhere?I recently got a Canon DSLR. It can save in Raw format, I use this function. Canons Raw format is "Whatever.CR2"F spot viewer and all editor programs see then and 'preview' them with no problem. The images appear to have no problem until you load them into GIMP (with UFRAW) UFRAW standalone, RAWStudio etc.

They load, but only as a small vertical rectangle. Often very purple in colour.I thought maybe it was something wrong with just the way it looked, so I just loaded one, went save as (a jpeg) and then loaded it up, it loaded as a small picture of the same purple-haze bar.Have I done something wrong? I googled it, downloaded UFRaw, even Ubuntu studio, same problem before and after studio installation. All these programs claim to read raw images.Just as an example, In RawStudio:I load up the folder of raw images. I can see all the images clearly with no problems in the preview slider up top. I can scroll through them and see them all no problem. When I click on one, it loads in the editing box as some weird bar (always vertical in orientation) often faintly resembling part of the photo but with seriously acid trip colours. Eg massive purple hazes, green everything etc.

Ubuntu :: Good Lightscribe Program For 9.04 64bit

Apr 23, 2010

What is a Good Lightscribe Labeling Program for Ubuntu 9.04 64-bit? I installed LIGHTSCRIBE SIMPLE LABELER but it's the biggest piece of crap program, you can't even set the Font Size, all it allows you to do is set the Font. I'm not a Linux Expert so I need a program that is easy to install and does not require compiling or complex manual installation with multiple command line text commands (unless I can cut and paste). I'm still confused by the complex Linux directory structure I have no idea where or what my home directory is or how to get to it from a terminal window / command line prompt.
