Basically it's all in the title. Birthday and anniversary dates from address books other than Personal - whether these are local or remote - do not display in the calendar. I have so far found no settings whatsoever that would trigger the expected behaviour. It would in fact be good enough if the display could be switched to other than Personal address book at all...

Exporting the default evolution address book to a cvs file is relatively simple:"There is an obscure utility called evolution-addressbook-export that does the job. To find it use the locate command on your system as it isn't in your normal path. Mine was located :
/usr/libexec/evolution/2.6/evolution-addressbook-export
to use is simple :
/usr/libexec/evolution/2.6/evolution-addressbook-export --format=csv >contacts.csv"[URL]..
But this ONLY exports contacts from the default address book (Personal address book), not other address books one may have created in evolution. SO HOW SHOULD THE COMMAND BE MODIFIED TO EXPORT ADDITIONAL ADDRESS BOOKS THAT ONE HAS CREATED?Cannot find an answer to this anywhere - most frustrating.
I'm having an issue in Evolution after upgrading to 11.04 in which upon autocompletion when typing emailaddresses in the To/CC fields, is slower than molasses.
I'm trying to troubleshoot this issue, but in my Evolution the Personal addressbook (from Contacts) is displayed 7 times. That is I have one CouchDB, one entry for the Exchange 2003 server, and 7 "On This Computer/Personal" addressbooks.
Any contact I add in one of these end up in every single of the others, even though none of these addressbooks are in use. But I can give every addressbook an individual name, so it appears to individual addressbooks.
I have searched the home folder and /usr for where I can find these and remove them, but they simply are nowhere to be found.
Does anyone know in which file I need to edit in order to fix this, and does anyone else have the slow autocompletion problem after upgrading to 11.04?
Suddenly I can't open some of my evolution address books. I get this error message :
Unable to open address book
This address book cannot be opened. This either means that an incorrect URI was entered, or the server is unreachable.
Detailed error message: Invalid source
This doesn't happens with 3 out of 5 address books. All the books in question are on my computer. My ubuntuone and google address books work fine. I've looked around for answers, but most of the issues seem to be related to the ubuntuone book, which is working fine for me.
I have installed the Maveric 10.10 version on an HP Pavilion dv7-1262us laptop and am using Evolution 2.30.3 for email. When I click on the contacts button in Evolution, and then click on a particular contact (in the personal contact list), I can't seem to modify the name or email; I can click in the boxes and cursor about, but no editing; the entire panel seems to be greyed out. I have searched a bit, but have not seen this particular problem addressed.

Please check that the path /home/david/.evolution/addressbook/local/system exists and that permissions are set to access it.I have checked folders and permissions seem ok. View 2 Replies View RelatedI installed Lucid and went to Ubuntu One from Me menu, clicked manage account, did not get a message to add the computer. After reading a few threads I deleted two Ubuntu One password tokens from the password and encryption keys in applications-accessories. I have not yet been able to get the Ubuntu One contacts in Evolution to work. It always says the address book does not exist. Additionally when I try to sync a file it says 'syncing' but just sits there on 0% doing nothing.
I have tried a fresh install and still have the same problems (I deleted the passwords again to allow me to add the computer). I have tried purging ubuntuone* and reinstalling after deleting the config directories, still no luck. I have tried adding another email address to the single sign on and tried logging in but again this did not work.
I do have another PC I am using now that can connect to Ubuntu One on a different user name and account (in other words nothing to do with the other computer), and I have noticed there is a password entry marked 'desktop couch user authentication' which I do not have on the other computer.
Looks like many people had issues in deleting multiple contacts from evolution-couchdb-ubuntuone address book. I had an issue (on more than one pc, and different ubuntu one accounts) and can't recognize if there are related posts. Something is messed up, but why? The reason why I'm opening a new thread is to ask: is gnome-keyring manager expected to have two entries for couchdb in the default behavior?
I want to erase my address book. After Ctrl+A > Ctrl+D > Yes and no effect, I can't delete single nor multiple contacts. Evolution states:

I use Ubuntu with Evolution here at work, and we have an Exchange server. can I somehow suck up all of the addresses in the global address list and somehow save them locally and import them to Evolution? Since I can't "link" to the global list it would at least be handy for me to utilize locally.

I have read nooks and crannies in the forums, run script files, incorporated, Outlook express, Outlook 2003 and 2007, Thunderbird and at one point yelled at my monitor. I have exported and imported .csv files, tabbed delimited files, comma separated value files, and then in the end a post from a non-Ubuntu page told me I could just import the outlook.pst file. Some of the above methods work to some degree. Others just trash my contacts. I have only 350 records to import. None of the above methods will import the address field for Home, Office or Other. They are always blank. Might that be because I ran the Ubuntu One setup files before I imported my contacts?

After pressing on the "To"-button, no e-mail address is visible in the list of contacts. That is strange since the contacts are visible within the address book itself. View 6 Replies View RelatedPreviously I was running Ubuntu 10.10. I have since migrated both of my machines to Debian 6.0.1. Before migrating I backed up my previous Evolution configuration, and after installing Debian I restored it from that file. Everything worked great except that backup included my UbuntuOne CouchDB address book, which I never used. When I right click it and click "Delete", nothing happens. I'm guessing the files in .evolution that contain this information are binary because I've done a locate ubuntu and couldn't find anything in there. It's not a deal breaker, but I'd like to get rid of this unused address book from a different OS.

I had Evolution running at the time. When I did a cold boot of my laptop and I ran Evolution again, it does not display my e-mail messages anymore. In fact, I had to install Mozilla Thunderbird with the Enigmail extension so that I can read and write e-mail messages.
How do I fix Evolution so that it will retrieve and display my e-mail messages and I can write new ones using this software package?
importing GAL to evolution:
1. In Xp open MS-Access create blank database.
2. From File->Get External Data->Import, Select file type as exchange()
3. Import contacts to new table, u can delete unwanted columns from this table. Now export this table to a csv file.
4. Following is simple code which takes contacts.csv as input and convert these contacts to vcf file which can be imported to evolution.
5. The contact.csv should be of format

View 9 Replies View RelatedI have been playing with Linux consistently for a couple of months now. I've been a Windows sys. admin for most of my career, so Linux is pretty strange for me. I started off with computers way back with the TRS-80 and then eventually moved to DOS systems. So the command line interface (CLI) of Linux was not completely alien to me, yet my lack of knowledge on the syntax and commands is holding me back. I have come a long way.
Recently I needed to play around with some DNS settings and one of the commands I used frequently in Windows, IPCONFIG /ALL, doesn't have a direct relative that displayed the same information. If you run ifconfig, it doesn't return the DNS servers you are currently using. You have to run a separate command to retrieve that information.
What I have done is created a super simple script that displays the network information for my primary LAN adapter, which is ETH0 in my case. After that, it shows the domain and name server information. Then it pauses for 20 seconds before closing the terminal window.
Here are the contents of the script file:
ifconfig -a eth0
cat /etc/resolv.conf
sleep 20
I simply right-clicked the Linux desktop, choose Create Document, Empty File. I named it something like Network Info. Then I opened it and put this information in it, saved it, and closed it. I renamed the file and added a .sh extension to the end which makes it into a script file. Next, right-click the script and go to properties. In the Permissions tab, check the box next to Execute: Allow executing file as a program. Then click close.
To run the script, just double-click the icon and then click Run In Terminal at the prompt. The terminal window opens, displays the information, and exits after 20 seconds. If you need it longer than that or need a different interface (such as wlan0 for your wireless), you can change or even add that in.
This was all done in Ubuntu 10.10. I know it is very simple and very straight forward and welcome thoughts and feedback about simpler ways to do this. For me, the old-school Windows admin, it's a baby step in the right direction. I am really enjoying learning the Linux OS.
