I have been using ubuntu for a good time and now i want to install opensuse.I have dwnlded the new (11.2) version 2 times but on installing it says unable to create repository. it takes a full day to dwnld here.. please suggest how to use the existing dwnld or a way toget a correct dwnld. i think the earlier one is corrupt.

I tried the "online update" using Yast2 but apparently (according to Yast) there is nothing at all to be patched on my system. I tried to click on the Firefox-3.5.5 rpm in the repository web-interface and open it using "install software" but the process aborts because of unresolved dependencies. Is there an easy way to update software without having to download/install every dependency manually?
View 1 Replies View RelatedSince the DVD is only 4.7GB and missing some stuff (e.g. pvm) I decided to download the network install /oss folder for openSUSE 11.2 so that I can install multiple copies locally and keep my bandwidth usage down.
I've downloaded the full /oss folder using wget -r and wget -cr during my ISP's free bandwidth slot (12-8am - and it took 2 sessions to get it all).Wget didn't throw up any errors so why the difference?Is there any (simple) way I can check the integrity of the download?

Idk how to download it then. I hope it isn't a problem that i installed ubuntu on a usb stick. I just pop into my computer and idea was to dual boot with XP and gradually solo Ubuntu. But it is a bit slow (for my old hardware Penntium III , 256 ramm ) Music player asks for add ins for everything i try to play (mp3 , flv, wmw etc). I cant download those add ins as ubuntu does not let me install my modem which is (CDMA 2000 fixed wireless phone made by ZTE china). I have driver for it for xp but they dont work for ubuntu. In fact, I hope to install Ubuntu to help me determine whether the CD/DVD problems are hardware or software related. The computer has no provision to boot from USB either. The download went fine, but as soon as installation started this error message popped up: "An error occured. Could not retrieve the required files. I get as far as chmod +x xtensoftphone. After I press enter I get no response. Should I get some sort of response to my action or no?
Also, I continued by entering ./xtensoftphone and get an error telling me it doesn't exist. I already executed tar -xvzf on the tar file. It extracted it and put it into a folder. I "cd"'d to that folder and thats when I ran into the issues with chmod and ./xtensoftphone commands. how to correctly get this program to install in Ubuntu 11.04?

What I'm looking for is a solution or a pointer in the right direction to setup on our local Ubuntu server a sort of cache. Each day each Ubuntu on the network, checks for updates and downloads, and installs. What I'm looking for is a way for one machine to download the update and then the others to download from the local resource.
A sort of local cache to try and minimise everyone downloading straight from the net for pretty much the same updates. I did a emerge cache many years ago when I was using Gentoo, so I'm wondering what I can use/do here with Ubuntu as we are all loving this distro now.
