View 4 RepliesI'm just looking for a good mpeg cutter for my Ubuntu laptop. I currently use video redo on my Windows PC but that is also my HTPC and is hooked up to the TV. I would prefer not to do it on the TV because of possible burn in issues and would love to be able to take the mpeg files recorded on the HTPC and cut them on the laptop but haven't found a really great application to do that.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a whole pile of MPEG2 and MP4 files. I want to add metadata to the files, such as title, author, year, etc. I can use AtomicParsley to add this information to MP4 files, but I can't see how to do this with MPEG2 files. Is this possible? If so, are there any linux FLOSS command line tools to add this data?

Besides that, are there any other command line tools available to transfer mpg to ts except ffmpeg?
I recently bought an host to have a personal website and would like to create a bash script to create make a mirror copy of it and then add it to crontab to run once a week. Essentially what I want to do is to get the website by using wget -m ftp://user***@ftp.host/mydir
Once this is done I'd like to have everything in an archive called mysite.date.tar.7z I've no experience at all of bash scripting but I guess this should be an easy task? How to make the user and password not visible ? Is there any other option better than wget? (maybe rsync it works better?)
When using the gparted option to create a new partition table does this automatically create a new mbr?
View 1 Replies View Relatedi am running into few problems with the script here. I have an FTP server, all configured, and i need to have a script that will create a folder with current dated within a tree as soon as particular user logs in. I was wondering if that is possible with proftpd. if not, can someone suggest how to create a script that will simply create a DIR with date and autorun itself every 24 hours? i am running Debian/Proftpd with Mysql authorization.

In 10.04, I am able to get to the dialog in NM that asks for the network name and security for the creation of a new wireless network. However, the "Connect" button is grayed out and filling out all fields doesn't allow me to press it. I assume that this means that either there is a problem with my configuration or that my network card is not supported. Here is the lshw entry for my wireless card:
Code:
*-network
description: Wireless interface
product: PRO/Wireless 4965 AG or AGN [Kedron] Network Connection
vendor: Intel Corporation
[Code]...
EDIT2: Well, I was able to make an ad hoc connection via "Edit Connections" This seems to be a bug in the NetworkManager dialog.
I bought a web hosting account(cPanel) and I want to create my own name server(ns1 and ns2.mydomain.com). So when I want to host addon domain, I can point them to my name server instead of hosting company name server.

View 1 Replies View RelatedRecently, Ive had some troubles with a drive and got it replaced. I did a clean install of Ubuntu and other things that I needed right away, but I still have the drive full of files that will be needed in the future.Specifically, I have a Windows 7 Partition that Im not currently using, but I would like to preserve for when I upgrade my computer. Is there any way that I could take this partition from the old drive and create an .iso file from it? The problem is- I need to take the .iso and- as its created- put it on an external drive.

View 9 Replies View RelatedSuddenly, and without any warning at all, Devede will not create an iso. I have the option checked for that to happen, but when I peek inside the folder, there's just compatible mpgs. I tried selecting "only covert film filesto compliant MPEG files," to see if the buttons were somehow reversed, but to no avail. I've searched this forum and Google for someone with the same problem; no luck. I've also updated to make sure I'm running the most recent stable version.

I have Ubuntu 9.10 Karmic install on the server machine and I'm new about virtualization.
I want to install Virtual Server above it via KVM to be used as development server. I found Jeos documentation [URL]
The goal is I want let the developers, programmers access the development server from internet, and do they experiment on it.
But I don't understand this section :
auto br0
iface br0 inet static
address 192.168.10.100
network 192.168.10.0
netmask 255.255.255.0

I add br0 section above to my interfaces, and when I restart it, it failed.

in 8.04 we use to have an option in the System tab for applying access to non root users, but in 10.4 the only similar option is User Groups, an the only options that seem similar to this issue is "mount user space file systems" and "use virtualbox virtualization solutions" neither of which have any effect. is there a new way to apply non root users with root access in 10.4?
I have package "myPackage" on Desktop with all needed files inside.
How can I create "myPackage.deb" from "myPackage"?
So in older versions (even in 9.x) of Ubuntu, file-roller offered a "create archive" option when right clicking on a file. Now, in 10.10, that option seems to be gone.I mean, it was never a great option to begin with since it only appeared when selecting multiple files (not with a single file)... but this is much worse. I need a quick and efficient way to create a .rar or .zip file. Right now I have to open file-roller, drag the files in, and then create the archive.

I presume this is because ubuntu 10.10 does not mount USB device filesytem (usbfs) in /proc/bus/usb folder and i can't manually create this folder therefore making it impossible to mount usbfs manually into this folder.
I want to create a new account (just so that I can change the uid of my current account to match my afs id)I have started out using the gui system->admin->users and group Everything seems to work but I could not login. I tried in the command line
sudo passwd -S account_name
and i get back

i think the -1 means it is disabled

This is very troublesome for us to install ubuntu and all the software again and again.
Therefore, i looking for an approach to create live cd which include kernel version, all other configuration, lib and all other installed application.
What is the most user friendly approach to perform this task?
I do not know if this is possible, but I have a laptop in another country that I visit quite frequently. I wish to re build it in Ubuntu from the image of a mcahine I have here such that when I set it up I need not go on line for updates and installed apps.
A couple of reasons for this.
Internet in this other country is by land line and VERY expensive and slow
It would be useful if it were an image as I am happy with the install on the laptop I have here,, and do not want to spend an age on my hols configuring and installing and playing about... Just install Ubuntu from my CD and then the image to create the same machine.....
