View 4 Replies View Relatedi want to change the boot splash logo/animation like i have changed in 9.10, I download the src of the theme and then make it, then open up startupmanager but i dont have the option to change the usplash theme in the startup manager so I have cheked the usplash package if he is installed and says:
sudo apt-get install usplash
Error depends of initramfs-tools but he is installed.
I installed startup-manager to change the appearance of my boot screen, but it doesn't have an "Appearance" tab! I checked and I don't think I have usplash installed, when I apt-get usplash I get this error:
Code:
apt-get install usplash

I'm running Lucid Lynx (10.04) 64-bit.
I'd really like to get startup-manager working.
I can't change my usplash :S I'm using Ubuntu 9.10 x64 and Grub2.I installed already startup manager and added the .so. I set all the resolutions to 1280x786 (my real resolution is 1920x1200 though). But when I reboot I see the grub, choose my os, and then all I see is a small white bar flashing in my left upper corner. My question isHow do I change my usplash?'d like to have this usplash screen, but it isn't downloadable.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI've created my own usplash theme and configured it using startupmanager. However, I'd like to know how to set it without using this GUI application, could someone tell me what would be the appropiate files to edit or commands to run
View 3 Replies View RelatedAbout a week ago, I noticed that my usplash doesn't do the loading bar (this is with any usplash theme). When I shut down, it works. At boot up, I get the back and forth bar, but when it's time for the loading bar, I just get a black screen with a flashing under score until the gdm login screen appears. I'm sure I am probably to blame, as I am constantly changing stuff. What command will show some info about this, or is there some log file I should look to. I would be grateful for any help.
View 9 Replies View Relatedi would like to replace the usplash in my 64bt ubuntu 8.10 installation with xsplash----- is it possible.....ubuntu 9.10 doasn't work with my laptops hardware......acer aspire 5970 with an intel 4500mhd intergrated graphics...
if i can't then can u direct me to a tutorial that allows me to make a usplash/splashy boot up screen with animated loading bar/avatar for ubuntu 8.10-
A while back had installed the kubuntu-desktop package onto my normal Ubuntu 9.10 install in order to use several KDE apps (mostly KGet). It changed my bootsplash to the Kubuntu one at that point which I found mildly annoying (as I still use the standard Gnome interface - I just wanted the KDE libs/apps installed). Anyways, I've updated to version 10.04 RC and the Kubuntu splash persisted (I thought the upgrade would replace it), and now the colors on it are corrupted.I found some instructions on how to revert it (sudo update-alternatives --config usplash-artwork.so), but that command doesn't seem to work in 10.04 anymore.
Not sure if this is normal, but I'm also having a problem where when logged into Gnome, when inside of a KDE app my cursor theme reverts to default until I leave that windows. Pretty strange. I thought it was picking up the cursor theme from KDE for a while but after logging in there I noticed that KDE is not using the same default theme. Not sure if this is a normal problem or if it's just a side affect of me upgrading rather than doing a clean install of 10.04 (my 9.10 install itself was an upgrade from 9.04).
I can change the Usplash screen that Lucid uses usingsudo update-alternatives --config default.plymouthgives the following:
Selection Path Priority Status
0 /lib/plymouth/themes/kubuntu-logo/kubuntu-logo.plymouth 150 auto mode
1 /lib/plymouth/themes/kubuntu-logo/kubuntu-logo.plymouth 150 manual mode
[code]....
I don't know how to install them but: I would like to know how do you install this specific theme [URL] And how to install other us plash themes in the future.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI've installed recently Lucid Lynx. I detest the plymouth splash and I'd like to know if I can use the dear old usplash of Edgy. If yes, where can I download it and above all how can I run it on Grub2? I have a Nvidia Geforce gtx260 for a Philips 220WS flat monitor. These are the resolution Lucid found:
Code:

I installed Karmic to a new hard drive using debootstrap, after running debootstrap I run chroot and install a linux imagage, usplash and some other packages (xorg among them). When booting from this disk, usplash shows the loading screen, but it never appears when shutting down, does anybody have an idea why this happen? Do you know how usplash is executed on shut down? Any other alternative to show an image when the system is shutting down

I had an issue with cairo-dock, and tried to remove it via package manager.
Rebooted, and screen froze with:
usplash: Setting mode 1152x864 failedf-49e2-a581-20153703c306
usplash: Using mode 1024x768
When I alt-F2, I just get a flashing cursor, no ability to type...
I then tried recovery mode, it scrolls, then freezes at:
init: network-interface (wlan0) post-stop process (916) terminated with status 1 flashing cursor with no ability to type...
I also tried recovering my data (home) with ubuntu one, but only 2 icons in my home dir appeared..
last resort I pulled the drive and hooked it to a DriveWire and to an ubuntu 9.04 machine but could not access due to restrictions...freeze even...
well... using "try ubuntu" the 2 icons are as follows... Access-Your-Privite-Data.desktop and the 2nd is Readme.txt
Readme.txt contains:
THIS DIRECTORY HAS BEEN UNMOUNTED TO PROTECT YOUR DATA.
From the graphical desktop, click on: "Access your private data"
or
From the command line, run: ecryptfs-mount-private
cant find the first and error message when trying the second. This is done with an ubuntu one cd on the laptop... I can not access the files this way with laptop hard drive plugged into drivewire on an ubuntu desktop machine.
I was installing something, usplash, I think it was...
I ran $ sudo aptitude install usplash
and after it asked me if I wanted to install some aditional packages, it returned this:
E: dpkg was interrupted, you must manually run 'sudo dpkg --configure -a' to correct the problem.
I have seen this error before. I just ran the command
$ sudo dpkg --configure -a
And it returned this:
Setting up initramfs-tools (0.92bubuntu29) ...
update-initramfs: deferring update (trigger activated)
Processing triggers for initramfs-tools ...
update-initramfs: Generating /boot/initrd.img-2.6.28.10-some-string-here
Cannot find /lib/modules/2.6.28.10-some-string-here
update-initramfs: failed for /boot/initrd.img-2.6.28.10-some-string-here
dpkg: subprocess post-installation script returned error exit status 1
I did an:
$ aptitude search initramfs-tools
and I noticed that it had a "C" next to it. I think this has something to do with the package not being configured correctly or at all. Also looks like it is trying to generate an initd, but missing something. That kernel name looks kinda funky, though...
I can't upgrade from 9.10 to 10.04, becuse the file ...usplash/libusplash0_0.5.51_i386.deb is missing in the repository. I tried switching to a new repository, but same thing happens. What did I do wrong, and what can I do to fix it?

I have debian/sid on my new hp/Compaq Presario CQ62 laptop. I installed usplash and started getting booting issues every fourth or 5th boot. The system stops responding till I power off the system by pressing the power switch. I checked the syslog and noticed that it also stopped without logging the cause.
By the way, except the above issue, every thing works great on my laptop with debian/sid including the wireless using the native linux driver which I obtained from hp website.
I have installed Ubuntu Lucid Lynx Alpha on my computer.was running fine until I installed usplash. Now when I boot up I get a message saying "Ubuntu is running in low-graphics mode" and a list of options. When I select any of them and press Enter I get a blank screen. I can't even load a command line. I want to remove usplash to see if that fixes the problem, but I would have to do it from another OS. How could I do that? My other operating systems are Ubuntu Karmic and OpenSUSE.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI recently bought an host to have a personal website and would like to create a bash script to create make a mirror copy of it and then add it to crontab to run once a week. Essentially what I want to do is to get the website by using wget -m ftp://user***@ftp.host/mydir
Once this is done I'd like to have everything in an archive called mysite.date.tar.7z I've no experience at all of bash scripting but I guess this should be an easy task? How to make the user and password not visible ? Is there any other option better than wget? (maybe rsync it works better?)
When using the gparted option to create a new partition table does this automatically create a new mbr?
View 1 Replies View Relatedi am running into few problems with the script here. I have an FTP server, all configured, and i need to have a script that will create a folder with current dated within a tree as soon as particular user logs in. I was wondering if that is possible with proftpd. if not, can someone suggest how to create a script that will simply create a DIR with date and autorun itself every 24 hours? i am running Debian/Proftpd with Mysql authorization.
View 14 Replies View RelatedEDIT: Whoops. Just realized that there is a Networking subforum. Apologies. In 10.04, I am able to get to the dialog in NM that asks for the network name and security for the creation of a new wireless network. However, the "Connect" button is grayed out and filling out all fields doesn't allow me to press it. I assume that this means that either there is a problem with my configuration or that my network card is not supported. Here is the lshw entry for my wireless card:
Code:
*-network
description: Wireless interface
product: PRO/Wireless 4965 AG or AGN [Kedron] Network Connection
vendor: Intel Corporation
[Code]...
EDIT2: Well, I was able to make an ad hoc connection via "Edit Connections" This seems to be a bug in the NetworkManager dialog.
I bought a web hosting account(cPanel) and I want to create my own name server(ns1 and ns2.mydomain.com). So when I want to host addon domain, I can point them to my name server instead of hosting company name server.

I did a clean install of Ubuntu and other things that I needed right away, but I still have the drive full of files that will be needed in the future.Specifically, I have a Windows 7 Partition that Im not currently using, but I would like to preserve for when I upgrade my computer. Is there any way that I could take this partition from the old drive and create an .iso file from it? The problem is- I need to take the .iso and- as its created- put it on an external drive.
