Aug 29, 2010I recently upgraded to Lucid 10.04 from Hardy 8.04, and since then I have no audio when watching You Tube videos in Firefox. I checked the sound preferences and I have sound in other applications, but not for You Tube. Oddly enough, I get sound on You Tube just fine using the Chrome browser, but it's not my preferred browser and I'd really like to get it working under Firefox. In another forum, someone suggested doing a "sudo apt-get install alsamixergui," but that didn't help.Is this some sort of Firefox bug? I googled the problem and others have reported it as such, but I cannot locate a fix. Anyone? Thanks in advance.

Jan 29, 2010This has happened multiple times. I'd be running firefox and it would crash for whatever reason. I'd try to restart it and it would tell me that it's "already running as another process."
ps and top show no firefox. killall can't kill it. I found a few forum postings saying to delete the .parentlock file in the firefox directory. That allows me to start it, but all my personalizations and settings are gone. I have to each time create a new profile and copy everything over.
Kubuntu 9.04, all up to date, 2.6.28-13, 64-bit.

Jun 11, 2010Working with Ubuntu v10.04, Firefox v3.6.3 and No-Script add-on v1.9.9.81, if you click the button "Options" that is in the right-down corner of the browser the X-Server crash but apparently is restarted by the OS immediately. Any other around with the same issue out there? I temporally disable the NoScript, but if someone know how to fix this, please let us know...

Apr 9, 2010I'm unsure as to whether this is an Ubuntu problem or a Firefox problem, but here's what's going on. Whenever I attempt to upload a photo on a website (such as Facebook or Funnyjunk.com), Firefox crashes. The microsecond I click "upload", it's gone.When I restart Firefox, I have the option of restoring my previous session, as normally happens after a FF crash.Is this a documented bug? I don't recall it ever happening on Windows, and I can't seem to find anything about it.

There was an update waiting for me this morning to install some dummy package and since I've done that firefox falls down whenever I try to go to a page that requires flash. The screen turns grey and nothing happens.
With my limited knowledge (and inability to use any page that requires flash) I've tried to remove and re-install flash but nothing I do seems to work

I noticed that it may not occur if i use firefox for short duration. But i usually open FF for at least some hours, so this is rather annoying.
Do you know the reason and the fix for this?
Ubuntu :: Firefox 3.5.7 (ubuntuzilla Upgrade) Does Not Fully Quit / Crashes Firefox
Jan 9, 2010I recently upgraded (via Ubuntuzilla) to firefox 3.5.7 and now, every single time I close Firefox, the program seems to crash without quitting completely.
First, I receive an error saying that the program will not close and asks me if I want to Force Quite or Wait for it to close on its own. This has been happening ever since I upgraded to Karmic and if I just wait it usually quits fully after a couple seconds.
Now what happens is this: the window still closes, but if I try to reopen Firefox then I get this error stating that Firefox is already open and therefore cannot be opened again. The only way to get back into Firefox is to restart the entire computer. (Incidentally, this is the same problem that occurs whenever I try to Force Quit Firefox)
This now happens every single time I "close" Firefox.
Does anyone know the source of this error? Or a workaround?
Ubuntu :: Crash After Six Minutes After 10.04 Upgrade?
Jun 10, 2010I have this problem since upgrade to lucid.
Every time I start my computer, from the power button, it crash after 6 minutes. It only could be recovered from the reset button, not CTRL + ALT + DEL nor REISUB.
I think it only happens if I don't touch anything in that 6 minutes.

Fedora :: Random Firefox Crash - How To Debug
Feb 17, 2010My firefox (Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux x86_64; en-US; rv:1.9.1.6) Gecko/20091216 Fedora/3.5.6-1.fc11 Firefox/3.5.6) on Gnome 2.26.3 will randomly crash, without any errors. /var/log/messages & /var/log/Xorg.0.log doesn't show anything that caused any errors. And it doesn't matter on which website(s) I'm busy with, it will just crash.
My PC has:
Intel Pentium(R) Dual-Core E5200 CPU
4GB DDRII Corsair RAM
3x 160GB SATAII HDD
Asus Nvidia 8800GT graphics card.
I have updated to the latest nVidia drivers

This is on Fedora Core 12 x86 I have disabled the only 3 Firefox plug-ins that I installed yesterday, but this problem has been looming for a long time. Something interesting that I picked up is that Thunderbird will close randomly (very seldom though) as well, so I don't know if it's Firefox specific though.
I have picked up that it happens more often when my PC's memory usage is above 2GB RAM, and memtest86+ didn't indicate any memory problems. If I have less tabs open, it happens less often, but the more tabs I have open, the more often it happens. At the same time, on the same PC, when I'm in Windows XP SP3 (dual boot), I can have many more tabs open as well as Thunderbird, Quickbooks, Photoshop CS3 and some other applications, and it doesn't cash.

And now when I try to watch a video it tells me I need to update flashplayer. How do I update flashplayer in Lenny. I tried this and I don't have the program installed. Do I need to add the backports to my sources.list first. Appreciate help in fixing this problem.

Aug 2, 2011A while ago, when I was using Maverick, Firefox started to crash randomly and led to kernel panics.
So I upgraded to Natty (clean install) and Firefox there too crashed.
Then I was getting graphics and make problems.
Today I tried to install Fedora 15. It first boots to a Live desktop that warned me that my hard drive had 65000+ bad sectors. Sixty-five thousand.
So I got a new one. A WD Scorpio Black, 750GB 7200RPM with Advanced Format.
Again I boot into Fedora 15. OK, no bad sectors. I tried to run Disk Utility Self Tests but it constantly crashed. Fedora warns you about this.
In the Live session, I opened Firefox. It also crashed just like back in Ubuntu. Then the screen flashes black and got warnings after warnings that a kernel module has crashed.
So I took out my old Maverick installation CD and first tried a Live session. However, Disk Utility told me that SMART is not supported while on Fedora, it was.
So I tried to install. But soon after that, I got a warning that the installer has crashed because a file copied to the disk did not match the file on CD. Right now I am in the Maverick Live session.

Oct 12, 2010I've upgraded my 10.04 (64bits) into 10.10 (64bits) on sunday and since I can't get thunderbird working anymore, I get the following error :

It seems nspluginwrapper has similar issues...
I've seens there has been similar problems with skype but downgrading to ia32-libs_2.7ubuntu26_amd64.deb didn't fix the problem.

Oct 30, 2010I've been using Ubuntu since Feisty Fawn, so I've been around the block when it comes to upgrades. From 9.10 to 10.04 I did a clean install, but I decided to try my luck with a web upgrade to 10.10. Well, so far it looks like that was a bad idea. I can't stay in gdm for more than about 1.5 mins before it crashes and drops me back to the greeter. Honestly, I'm not sure exactly what's crashing, but I'll append what logs I think will give some info.

Ubuntu Installation :: Major Crash During Upgrade?
Dec 4, 2010Just tried to upgrade my mythbuntu box from lucid to maverick.
It crashed during the upgrade. On re-boot it now stops at a dialog telling me its running in low graphics mode because it cannot load/find the nvidia drivers. I am unable to close the dialog. No mouse, no keyboard.
ESC will not let me interrupt the boot to get to a recovery console.
Ubuntu :: Gimp And Inkscape Crash After Upgrade?
Apr 29, 2011Both programs were working just fine yesterday before the upgrade to Ubuntu 11.04.
Opening Gimp results in many error pop-ups on being unable to locate module gimp and module gimpfu. I tried to uninstall and reinstall, and the installation fails with this message:

This may be because of times in the past where I tried to compile Gimp. Do I need to clean up my repositories list? (in that case, any way to get a fresh one?)
Inkscape doesn't open at all, instead the terminal message says this:
inkscape: error while loading shared libraries: libwpg-0.1.so.1: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
I'm not sure what's wrong in the case of Inkscape though, although I did compile a few versions long ago I was using the "normal" version from the Ubuntu repositories afterwards.
Fedora :: Firefox-Flash Causing System To Crash
Jan 14, 2010So this just started a few days ago... maybe 7 at the most.
I am working along, and screen goes black, or just freezes... the lights on my laptop start blinking and becomes everything becomes unresponsive.
I have noticed it is usually when I am Using Firefox and Flash content. I have also noticed it happens when using Deluge, but it usually takes 5 minutes to kick in.
I am using firefox at the moment, but I am sure if I load up a ..... video, it will lock up on me again.

Ubuntu Installation :: 10.4 Upgrade Download Crash Can't Boot 9.10
May 1, 2010Was running the upgrade through the manager this morning and the download got about 3/4 of the way and froze up making the system unresponsive I left this for an hour to see if it would resolve its self but no luck so as the installation hadn't begun I hit the power button. BIG mistake now when I try boot to 9.10 it hits a black screen with white ubuntu logo much like 9.10 but no loading bar. it just hangs at this now. I am currently posting this from a live usb I made from an ISO of 10.4 i downloaded on my girl friends windows machine. Is it possible to either fix the 9.10 installation or update the files on the 9.10 installation to 10.4 from the live disk(I have the option to make a 9.10 live disk if needed)?

Oct 30, 2010Today I was prompted to upgrade to Ubuntu 9.1, and then again to 10.04
Doing these upgrades wreaked havoc on my system. I have been able to fix most of the problems that were caused but I am having trouble finding information on the following:
When I boot up the system and after passing the GRUB loader, the system freezes up at the login screen and I have to power down.
If I hit ESC at the GRUB screen and choose Kernel 2.6.32-25-generic (recovery mode) and then choose "failsafe graphic mode", then I am able to log in to GNOME as normal.

Ubuntu Installation :: System Crash After Partial Upgrade 10.10?
Apr 7, 2011I have a Dell studio running ubuntu for two years now. I had ubuntu 10.04, but a few days ago, the update manager started to bug me that some stuff don't work properly and that I need to to a partial upgrade. I postponed that for a while, and all worked fine, but I finally had sometime and clicked "yes", all began collapsing:
1) the update manager crashed while updating.
2) I rebooted and ran it again. same crash at the same stage.
3) I decided, god knows why, to do a full upgrade to 10.10, which also crasehd.
Now it won't even boot. It always get stuck at a line saying "no IPv6 routers present" or something of that sort. when I switch off manually the wireless switch on the laptop, the boot gets stuck a bit earlier, on a line that says: "laptop login:"
EDIT: I just remembered something which might be important: I had a hibernation problem on the upgrade to 10.04, so I played around a bit with that. now it uses libgcrypt, and I remember I set up something manually then, but I can't remember what.
Ubuntu Installation :: Upgrade From 10.10 To 11.04 - Crash Halfway Through Update?
May 8, 2011I was upgrading my laptop from 10.10 to 11.04. The laptop crashed part way through the upgrade (fairly far in, at least an hour after downloads completed, a few minutes after grub installer asked some questions). The crash was from another issue besides the update
Now when the computer boots it immediately goes into kernal panic (black screen, flashing caps lock light). when selecting recovery mode, it boots for about a 5 seconds then hangs.
I can however at grub select Previous versions of ubuntu > 2.6.35-28 and it will boot succesffully and run without error. Currently running like this to post this message. For the most part everything looks as if it has upgraded. To things worth mentioning.

I backed up my home folder just in case but didn't do a system backup. Wasn't worried if I broke it and had to reinstall, but this doesn't look in my (possibly incorrect) to bad.
