Anyone know how to change the icon sizes in Gnome's Application Browser or Control Center?
It seems mine used to be larger but now they are quite small. I looked in gconf editor but I didn't find anyhing.
I use Ubuntu 10.04 LTS.
How can I change the Ubuntu icon to the default GNOME icon, on the main GNOME menu, using an official or 'clean' way of doing it
I'm running openSUSE 11.3 with GNOME. I went through the Software Manager and deleted every instance of OpenOffice.org that was left after changing to LibreOffice, and also installed Beagle (+dependencies) and Tracker with some additional packages. Then I noticed that in the Application Browser there is no text next to the icons. Only the small version of the icons centered with no text (screenshot below).
The problem is I have no idea how to restore it to the way it was. I've already deleted Beagle and Tracker and their packages to no avail. I also noticed that YaST and Control Center both look fine. It's only the Application Browser.
how I would go about changing the default Ubuntu start menu button to something specific. I would like to use this image: [URL] As the icon for the start menu, but I wouldn't know about how to go about doing so.

View 7 Replies View RelatedAfter much Google-ing and headaches I finally found out how to change the Gnome Menu Icon in F10. I love the Echo Icon theme, but I hate that Pac Man main menu icon. I had to get rid of it. Here's how to change that icon--and even to replace the standard "Infinity" icon with a much nicer version--or even switch that out for something totally different.
First, enable GUI root logon. This makes copying/pasting the icon to the protected icon folder much easier. Here's how [URL]When you have completed that, log out. When you get to the GDM login choose "Other" enter "root" in Username and then your root password. Now you're logged in as root.
Go to USR/Share/Pixmaps and there are a few nice Fedora icons. There's the "Infinity" logo but it's a much nicer, shinier version of the standard one. It's called "fedora-logo-sprite". But if you're feeling adventurous then try--as I did--"fedora-logo-small", which is the fedora name and a small "Infinity" logo (there's also the "Powered by Fedora" icon too). Copy one of those and paste it to Home or Desktop, or wherever you want. You just want to put it somewhere to stage. Now change the name to "start-here".
Now go to /USR/Share/Icons/(name of icon set using)/24x24/places/ and remove the "start-here" icon (send to Trash). Go to where you staged your replacement icon, copy it, go back to the /USR/Share/Icons/(icon set used)/24x24/places/ folder and paste it. Be sure to empty the Trash Can before you log off as Root User. Log off/ log back on as "you" and the icon should appear. I used the "Fedora (Infinity)" logo as Main Menu instead of the Menu Bar and it works great. The "Powered by Fedora" icon would look great too.
The Gnome desktop environment in Fedora permits a range of themes to be used, including icon sets. Some themes will include an icon for the Gnome Main Menu that you may or may not like including the default Fedora "infinity" Main Menu icon.Most launchers, whether on the desktop or on a Gnome panel, will permit you to change the individual icon. The Gnome Main Menu offers no such facility. Whereas there have been several challenging methods suggested to change that icon on a system-wide basis, there is an easy and straightforward way to do it on a user account basis.
Note: the method described herein applies only to the single Main Menu icon usually added to a Gnome panel in place of the custom Menu Bar that Fedora creates by default. This method does not work with the default custom Menu Bar. To add the Main Menu to a Gnome panel, right-click a blank area of a panel and select Add to Panel, then select "Main Menu" from the box that appears. Move the Main Menu icon to your desired location by right-clicking it and selecting Move. Remove the original custom Menu Bar by right-clicking it and selecting Remove From Panel.Install Gnome Configuration EditorInstall the Gnome configuration editor program using either System > Administration > Add/Remove Software or the command line (as root):

I downloaded Eclipse and am trying to create a launcher for it in the main menu. I finally figured out that a .desktop file needed to be made in /usr/share/applications, but I can't get the icon to show up. For the "Icon" field in the .desktop file,tried giving an absolute path to an icon in my home folder, and I also tried putting the icon in all the folders under /usr/share/icons and just putting "eclipse" (the icon file name) as the valueI had copied this last from some of the existing .desktop files that worked, but still had no luck. Does anyone know how to do this?

I selected separate partitions for /home, /var, /usr, /tmp etc, and by default it gave me only 5GB for the /usr partition. - I've made a new user account.
- .gtkrc-2.0 in my home is auto-generated, .gtkrc.mine does not exist.

Still ironing out the kinks in a new install of Fedora 12.For some reason I am not able to change the icons, colours or font size used in the Nautilus file browser. While I am able to change these settings in System>Preferences>Appearance, changes just don't affect the Nautilus file browser, which continues to use the default Fedora icons in blue and 9 pt. Sans as its font no matter what I do. On the GNOME desktop I am able to adjust fonts and sizes, but when I change the icons, settings do not stick after a reboot.
I have tried deleting the ~/.gconf/apps/nautilus directory, downgrading nautilus, even removing and reinstalling it entirely, but to no avail. Tools like gnome-color-chooser affect the panel and desktop, but just don't have any effect on the Nautilus file browser. Why?This looks to me like a permissions issue possibly? The situation could be affected by the fact that the settings in /home were inherited from a previous installation of another linux distro.
Is anyone else seeing the default icon in GNOME Shell instead of the usual Firefox icon? I am talking about the default icon that looks like a purple diamond.

I have d/l and am using an icon theme I got from gnome-look. I like all the icons except for a few, specifically the trash, and would like to change them but I can't figure out how. I d/l an empty and full trash icon. I looked in the /home/username/.icons/themename folder and found the two trash icons that came with the theme (they were in ~/.icons/themename/scalable/places). Changed the names of the ones I d/l and replaced those current ones with them.how to do this? I would also like to change the Menu Bar icon back to the gnome foot.

This apparently causes gnome to use the Gnome icon theme on boot, instead of the Humanity theme I selected in Preferences->Appearance. I just have to go to Preferences-Appearance again to get the Humanity theme back to work (I don't even have to change any settings, just going there is enough.) When I remove awn from my startup applications, this problem doesn't occur.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI'm seeing really bad user login format under a standard installation and am wondering why ubuntu does this as default. I have noticed that the graphical login for gnome sizes itself to accommodate a user's exact password length. This indicates to me that somewhere on the unencrypted part of a standard installation with user encryption contains at least some indication of the content of the password length which seems a security flaw even if not a complete hole, it majorly reduces the number of attempts a cracker would have to cycle through.
And that's assuming that *only* the length is contained. Furthermore it seems that it would be MUCH better to simply display the number of characters entered into the pw field and allowing the gui to expand itself from an fixed size as the field is filled out so the the user still receives visual feedback for entering characters. Either a simple character count display should be entered into the field or a 10 dot to new line so that one can visually quickly count the number enter by multiplying from a 10base graphical observation.
gnome-terminal from the Debian squeeze does not use the 'default_size_columns' and 'default_size_rows' from the /apps/gnome-terminal/profiles/Default/ folder of gconf.

The only way i can get rid of it is by turning my computer off. Why does this happen and how can i stop it from happening? It happens alot while using audio recording software.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI've installed chromium browser package from Index of /repositories/openSUSE:/11.4:/Contrib/standard I notice that the taskbar icon has been missing (for quite some time) - I can confirm it on 3 different openSUSE 11.4 installations - on my laptop, my home HTPC/gaming rig and the worstation at work. The icon in the gnome main menu->internet->chromium looks fine but the icon I get in Compiz Ring Switcher seems to be the same white box icon with the blue bar. I'm sure it started happening since an update of Chromium in Feb/Mar timeframe. Does anyone else face similar problem and may be found a solution to get the icon fixed in the taskbar? I've attached a screenshot showing the problem.

There is a network proxy and I did apply the network proxy setting system wide.
Applications like Dropbox, Messenger etc stopped connecting to internet which were working very well until yesterday.
I regularly use an online imageboard website, and as such I am constantly uploading images. Being new to the linux OS, I was quite familar with Microsoft Windows file explorer and its adaption with file uploading. However, it would seem that GNOME follows a different method and uses a separate file browser to a file uploader Here is my file browser and the various options available (icon size, icon view, bigger thumbnails):
And here is what I get when I upload files to a website: My question is, is there a workaround or package available to allow changeable icon sizes/thumbnails in the file uploader? The picture preview is good, but really isn't enough for what I require
