Ubuntu :: No WiFi And Network Panel Applet
Jul 20, 2010Basically, I chose to give Ubuntu Studio another try (after it had annoyed me with it's lack of wifi), but the problem is that there's no network manager applet in the indicator area (i added it in the top right, the panel's set up as it would be in normal Ubuntu)Using Wifi Radar, i think that the wifi card works in the preempt kernel, it's just that i don't want to use Wifi Radar all the time, can prove to be annoying.
When i start nm-applet, a small space opens up in the indicator applet. I'm not sure if that's something important.Has someone managed to get this to work? (i've installed network-manager and network-manager-applet)
Ubuntu :: Wifi Applet Stuck On Desktop?
Feb 26, 2011This might seem dumb, but I have a wifi applet stuck on the upper left corner of the desktop (on the desktop, not on any panel) that I can't get rid. I've never seen this before.When on panel there is kind of a "handle" that I can right click which then I can "remove from panel. There is no such handle on the desktop, if I right click on the applet it would just display the wifi menu.

Everything ist working fine, but when i start my Netbook i always have to switch on my wifi by my self. Now my question: is there any way to give nm-applet the information with some start option to start with wifi swiched on? Inside the connection Options i already switched on "connect automatically" and "all users can use this connection" also i found the option inside /etc/NetworkManager/nm-system-setings.conf

Mar 12, 2010I have a linksys networkrouter WiFi a laptop Windows Vista an a Laptop Ubuntu.On the vista machine i have 54mb/s on the ubuntu i have sometimes 1 and sometimes 25 mb/s When it was a Windows machine it was also 54mb/s.So y question what can i doo to speed it up ?

Jul 29, 2011I am having issues with wifi on my Lenovo X220. What has occurred is that the network applet in the notification bar no longer shows me any wireless network options. When I click on the applet, the drop down shows me: Wired network: disconnected (greyed out), VPN connections, Enable networking (checked), Connection information (greyed out), and Edit connections. Missing is Wireless connections. This occurred "out of the blue" in the middle of using the computer (i.e. NOT just after a reboot or new driver installation, etc.)
I have noted that:
1. Wired ethernet works just fine.
2. Wireless (wifi) works when I boot into Windows 7 or into a fresh Ubuntu USB Start up disk (implying that this is a software issue, not hardware).
3. The hardware led for wifi is OFF (whereas the Bluetooth light is on.) In Windows or using a fresh ubuntu from USB, this light turns on normally.
This may be irrelevant, but the issue started yesterday when I noticed that the trackpoint scrolling that I had enabled using gpointing-device-settings was not working. I ran that app and checked the settings, which were normal. I then reset the computer, and found the trackpoint was working just fine, but I had no wifi. A few resets later, the problem was not solved.

Ubuntu :: Network Manager Applet - Wifi/mobile Controls Disappear And Reappear
May 7, 2010I upgraded from 9.0X to 10.04 on my Sony Vaio VGN-TZ398U which has an internal Sprint mobile broadband card. The card operates properly along with the wireless. The problem that I am having since upgrading is that the Network Manager Applet icon that looks like a cell phone bar display does not show in the notification area at all unless there is a known wireless (wifi) network nearby.
Clarification: If I am in my car, the icon does not show which then makes it impossible to connect using the mobile broadband functions of the Network Manager Applet ( version 0.8 ). If I am in my office with a known wireless network, the icon shows and then I can switch to the mobile card.
I have tried removing the notification area from the panel and adding it again. I have done the same with the indicator applet. Neither has solved this problem.

I tried all of them, and none reliably worked. Every solution which required re-association wtih the AP helped for some time, but nothing helped for long. First, don't let yourself fool by the disable IPv6 trap - while it is "enabled" it is acutally not used by Lucid! I have a clean install of Kubuntu 10.04 on an AMD64 Laptop with Broadcom STA driver: 03:00.0 Network controller: Broadcom Corporation BCM4328 802.11a/b/g/n (rev 03) However I can reliably stabilize my connection for some time either by manually disabling WiFi with the hardware switch or disabling WiFi by software means and re-activating. This brings speed at par with Kubuntu 9.10 until some time. Can anybody confirm this behaviour?
Ubuntu Networking :: Wifi Speed Drops Periodically And Will Not Increase Without Reconnecting?
Jan 25, 2011after maybe half an hour, the wireless download rate drops to about 110ks (and runs happily at up to 20x this until then). At that point, it will never pick back up above that rate unless i disconnect and reconnect. Once the problem occurs once, its like to reoccur about every 5 to 10 minutes until the machine has rebooted.

Fedora Networking :: WiFi Auto Connect Doesn't Work (NetworkManager Applet)
Mar 3, 2010The auto connect feature of NetworkManager Applet (version 0.7.997) isn't working on my system. If the WiFi connection dies, Network Manager doesn't detect that the connection has been lost and try to reestablish the connection. I have to manually click on the WiFi hotspot to reestablish the connection. This appears to be the case both while the computer is running and when I first boot it up (i.e. when booting, if the first attempt at establishing a WiFi connection doesn't succeed, Network Manager doesn't retry or try another hotspot).Is this "normal" behavior for Network Manager? If not, does anyone know a fix? Here's some more info about my system:

Feb 25, 2010As soon as i'm starting to copy a large file enough file (>700Mb) to my ubuntu box (connected to an Asus router via wifi) from a Windows 7 client (connected to router via ethernet cable) i get a dramatic drop in speed. upload starts at 1,0Mb/sec with a ping to ubuntu box at <1ms, and in 2 minutes it drops to 200kb/sec with a ping of over 1000ms! The ping increases with every second in a linear progression.
To exlude router as a possible problem copying to a windows 7 notebook connected to router via wifi results in an average of 2,7Mb/sec with an average ping of 150ms.

May 6, 2010I thought I was removing the chat status piece of the indicator applet (I know what it is now, didn't then), but I accidentally removed the whole thing. Now when I figured out how to put it back on the panel, I can't get it back to where it was (which was to the RIGHT of the system date/time applet). How can I do this as well as move the indicator applet that has the volume control in it?

Ubuntu :: Conflict Between Indicator Applet And Notification Area Applet?
May 15, 2011I was using both the Indicator Applet and the Notification Area applets in my panel but realized that very often when I started the system, the icons of these applet appeared mixed. Some items were duplicated (for example the keyboard indicator) where others were missing (sometimes the battery indicator, sometimes the sound indicator, etc). When that happened I had to remove them and add them to panel again.
This seems to be a bug that makes one applet interfere with the other (maybe because there are some items that appear in both but when you add both initially nothing is duplicated but after a system restart the problem happens).After searching for some way to fix this apparent bug without success I decided to remove the Indicator applet and keep just the Notification Area.
It works but then I don't have the sound applet anymore, because it was part of the Indicator Applet.
I searched for a standalone sound applet but I couldn't find any. Do you know of any such applet that I could install in the system? If I can find any it would be fine to me and I would be satisfied using just the Notification Area.

Banshee & Rhythmbox try to play music files at double, or more, speed with no sound output. Spotify Linux version also tries to playback at double speed with no sound output. Media Player attempts to play music files at high speed. Media player plays the Video and audio tracks at high speed. VLC Will play the video at normal speed but with no audio.

Doing so resulted in me losing the ability to control the sound from the panel, which I value so I put it back.Once I restored the indicator applet to the panel, the nm-applet went missing. I'm still connecting to my home network with no problem, so the function is there, but the little icon that updates when you're trying to connect, shows signal strength, and other available networks is now missing. This I've searched the problem and haven't found any solutions that work, I think because of the new applet integration, but I'm very surprised this hasn't been found by someone yet!

Apr 27, 2010Lucid has this (opinion: stupid) notification applet in the top right that contains links and notifications for the default evolution etc setup. I do not want that applet and would prefer to run what I want via alltray. The problem is that removing the notification applet removes the sound applet! Oct 17, 2010I've just installed Slackware 13.1 in two different laptops for first time. I have some strange internet browsing behaviour in one of the laptops. I've installed 2 internet browsers(firefox,opera) using the directions from Slackbuilds.org and there is also konqueror pre-installed. Moreover I installed Wicd network manager.
I can browse some pages e.g. ..... with firefox very slowly but NEVER facebook. I can browse almost any page, even facebook, with OPERA but very very slowly. The same goes with konqueror... Wicd shows that i am always connected with my WPA wireless network

Mar 24, 2010My kupdate-applet tells me it has a recommended update: KDE 4.3.5 from the official opensuse update repo. Problem is I already have a more recent version of KDE 4.3.5 installed from the official opensuse KDE repo. In yast I pressed the "switch system packages" button for the KDE repo. How can I make the update applet ignore this "recommended" update? Note that the updateApplet itself is installed from the opensuse update repo. If I don't do this, then the older update applet from the KDE repo always has a recommended update for... Kupdate-applet.
