Ubuntu :: Software Center - SystemError : E: I Wasn't Able To Locate File For The Ttf-mscorefonts-installer Package?
Mar 12, 2011
just installed ubuntu on my laptop (msi gt640) and, whilst attempting to install something from the software center, get an error. in full, it is: There seems to be a programming error in aptdaemon, the software that allows you to install/remove software and to perform other package management related tasks. Please report this error at http://launchpad.net/aptdaemon/+filebug and retry.Under Details, it states:
Traceback (most recent call last): File "/usr/lib/python2.6/dist-packages/aptdaemon/worker.py", line 779, in simulate return self._simulate_helper(trans, status_path)[code]....
SystemError: E:I wasn't able to locate file for the ttf-mscorefonts-installer package. This might mean you need to manually fix this package.
I recently attempted to install the ubuntu restricted extras package, and it eventually led me to a certain screen (screenshot attached.) It seems I need to agree to the terms of use, but I can't seem to actually agree to it. I can't click <Ok>, I've tried pressing enter, pressing y then enter, pressing ok then enter, and a few other things.
I installed today's boat load of updates. During the installation a Microsoft agree to the EULA screen came up from the referenced package. Screw that I said and did not agree. The update installations seemed to run with no problems. This evening I found that the fonts used by an application which I run under wine (Forte Agent news reader) had gone to crap. All very light and hard to read.
I manually installed the offending package and agreed to the EULA. It downloaded and installed a bunch of fonts. The wine environment seems to be OK.So then I restored my OS from a recent g4l snap shot. I installed all updates except for 4 related to ttf fonts. Again the wine environment seems OK.Why is Canonical providing something which requires a Microsoft EULA I wonder?
I'm getting this when I try to do an upgrade in Adept in Kubuntu:APT Error. Context:Package download failed,I wasn't able to locate file for the libvolume-id0 package. This might mean you need to manually fix this package.
When I try apt-check in the console, I get this: The package libvolume-id0 needs to be reinstalled, but I can't find an archive for it. How do I manually fix this package?
I am following this guide to installing eclipse via terminal command-line on Linux. However, this seems to be happening lately with all the packages I try to install..I checked the Synaptic Package Manager and reloaded and rebooted the computer, but to no avail.
I'm trying to install Ruby on Rails on an Ubuntu desktop VM. The network connection works ok but I can't seem to get this to work:
sudo apt-get install ruby1.9.2
I want the latest version of Ruby.
Is this because I haven't enabled some repository or something - I dimly recall having to 'enable universe' before now... but can't remember why or how....
I just changed (not upgraded, I made a clean install on a new hard drive) from 9.10 to 10.10 and I have a serious problem. I just can't install new packages. Neither apt-get nor synaptic can find any package. I either get a "E: Unable to locate package <package_name>", or "E: Package <package_name> has no installation candidate" For example when I type sudo apt-get install emacs23 , I get this output: Quote:
Reading package lists... Done Building dependency tree Reading state information... Done E: Unable to locate package emacs23 And the synaptics package manager only lists the packages I already have. I searched these forums and googled my error message, but I couldn' t find anything helpful. The only thing I know is that this is not a network/proxy problem, I am behind a proxy but I have set the http/https/ftp_proxy environment variables, and I have a working network connection, as I am actually posting from the same computer.
To start, I am a very new user of ubuntu, so please bear with me. I just installed ubuntu on an old desktop and cannot get it to install packages. I installed these same packages on my laptop that is a little newer and it works on the laptop, but it wont work on the desktop. I searched for previous threads and found to try
Code:
I also tried this many times and nothing has changed
when ever I use the terminal to install a program (for example Ubuntu-tweak) I end up with this line E: Unable to locate package (then the program name),this has also happened when I've updated through the terminal. (I've since installed Ubuntu-tweak via the link on its site).Let me say this my little box has a banging Internet connection. And I have a full almost brand new installation maverick meerkat.
I just reinstalled Xubuntu 11.04, and I'd like to install fluxbox:
Code: 09061920@system:~$ sudo apt-get install fluxbox [sudo] password for 09061920: Reading package lists... Done Building dependency tree
[Code].....
in /etc/apt/sources.list, but I'm on a very slow connection so I don't want to update 42 MB right now (trust me when I say I'm on a very slow connection ).
how to update just the updates necessary for apt-get without having to update the 42 MB of, for the moment, pointless updates?
I'm running Ubuntu 10.10 and trying to install CUDA. Everything is working fine except it looks like some openGL components are missing; when compiling the CUDA code samples I get the error
/usr/bin/ld: cannot find -lGL I went online and it looked like 'sudo apt-get install nvidia-glx-new'
would take care of this but then I get the error from the title of this post, that it can't be found. I'm afraid I'm a poor hand at installing components with Linux . S
i recently started sockets programming. In the process i began to look for relevant network information about my computer and realized that ifconfig wasn't displaying the same information that resides in my /etc/network/interfaces file. On the interfaces file my IP address is 192.168.1.109 for interface eth0 but ifconfig displays 192.168.1.101. I was under the impression that ifconfig got its information from the interfaces file but clearly doesn't. I tried re configuring the device with ifconfig and then disabling and re enabling the device with ifdown and ifup so that the device updated its information but it didn't.
This morning, Update manager downloaded and attempted to install linux kernel image and header files but failed with some sort of error. I'm trying to locate the error log for synaptic package manager. Anyway I rebooted and everything seems to work okay. Did anyone else have this problem? This is from the history:
Code: Commit Log for Thu Jun 3 05:45:42 2010 Upgraded the following packages: linux-headers-2.6.32-22 (2.6.32-22.33) to 2.6.32-22.35 linux-headers-2.6.32-22-generic (2.6.32-22.33) to 2.6.32-22.35 linux-image-2.6.32-22-generic (2.6.32-22.33) to 2.6.32-22.35 linux-libc-dev (2.6.32-22.33) to 2.6.32-22.35
after alot of work with my system, I've gotten most of it working It's a Toshiba C655-S5049 with a Atheros AR9285 Wireless card, so lots of fun getting that to work, anyway I'm trying to update my system, and it wont update, if I try update manager it won't do it because it's dealing with restricted drivers, and if I try in terminal I get E: Unable to locate package updateAnyway, any suggestions? I've been trying to work this out, and it's getting annoying. The key Drivers that I'm also looking for are, Video:Intel 4500M HD Integrated with Dynamic Sharing Audio:IntelAudio device: Intel Corporation 82801I (ICH9 Family) HD Audio Controller (rev 03) Also, does anyone happen to know how well battlefield 2 will run in wine? it ran pretty good on windows, just wondering how it will do in ubuntu.
I installed a command line version of Ubuntu 10.10 using the alternate install disk. To suit my needs, I have to install the gcc C compiler in this environment. When connected under root, I enter the command: 'apt-get install gcc'. The error 'E: unable to locate package gcc' is then displayed on screen. how to install gcc? Is this package available from the alternate install disk or do we have to download it. If I dowbload a tar file, where should I copy it to to be able to have the install application see it?
I have installed the latest server (Ubuntu 10.04). When I tried (including sudo apt-get update first followed by sudo apt-get install virtinst) I get Unable to locate the package virtinst. It also did it for a few others as well. The apt-get update command is successful (on the console it says it is Done). I have network connection (no proxy) and I am able to ping other systems at home and outside world. So I don't believe it is network issue.
I tried to install vnc4server on my new ubuntu 11.04 but its fauling and here is the error log sunandi@sunandi-MM061:~/Downloads/linux-2.6.39.1$ sudo apt-get install vnc4server

You can install it by typing:
I am pretty new to ubuntu so I am not really sure what I am doing. I don't know if I have to enable "universe" or what I should do. I am not sure if it matters but I am also running Ubuntu from my flash drive so maybe that is the problem.
Cannot install updates. Click on icon which says 65 updates available but update manager opens and is blank and frozen .Reboot and same results. apt-get install updates says Unable to locate package updates. Everything has worked perfectly upto now I am running Squeeze.
