Ubuntu :: Wireless Presenter Is Recognized As USB YUREX In Natty?
May 24, 2011
I just bought a no-brand wireless presenter. It's a plug n play device, and it works out of the box on a windows machine. I plug it into my laptop with Natty installed, the buttons on the device for page up and page down do not work.
I tried lsusb and dmesg, it seems to me that it is recognized as a USB YUREX. I did a quick search on Google, and I found somewhere that the device will work if it is recognized as a generic HID, but I have no idea how to do it.
My daughter has an ipod and she wants me to change tracks on it but when I plug it in on natty this message appears: Code: Error mounting: mount: wrong fs type, bad option, bad superblock on /dev/sdg2, missing codepage or helper program, or other error In some cases useful info is found in syslog - try dmesg | tail or so I do not understand this message try dmesg what is this?
I just installed Presenter Console 1.1 extension for oofffice impress. I would like to view notes while showing the slide show. I think I should be able to do this even when my CPU is not connected to a projector. However, I do not know how to activate the mode for viewing notes. I can see that the extension is installed by going to tools-Extension Extension Manager (the extension is locked and the disable and activate buttons are grayed out?).
When I run a slide show (F5), the Gnome panel is shown in the screen. Sometimes it is hidden below the slide show, but usually the panel is shown. How do I make it hidden during a slide show or is this some kind of bug? Did not find anything on google. Open Office 3.1.1 (Build:9420) Gnome panel 2.26.0
i installed open suse kde on the laptop toshiba l450 and i believe i need to download the wireless driver for it but what driver is this and where is it i would prefer a one click install
I'm running Linux 11.04 and my wireless network was working just fine until today. I cannot connect to WiFi - it acts as if the device wasn't there. The hardware switch led isn't working. No matter how much clicking on it, it won't work.
iwconfig:

When I start ubuntu from being turned off, my network manager does not show wireless as an option, only wired (disconnected.)When I open a terminal and type "sudo modprobe rt3090sta" my wireless card becomes available and It works just fine. THe only problem is that I dont want to have to open a terminal to get my wireless to work every time i turn on my computer
I'm having an issue with my wireless router not being recognized in Ubuntu Netbook Remix. When I boot into it, it won't display my network. The funny thing is that my neighbor's network is recognized just fine.
Also, I can discover and connect perfectly fine in Windows 7, just not in Ubuntu. This is the only thing holding me back from installing it and diving in.
Edit: My netbook is a Lenovo Thinkpad X100e, if that makes any difference.
Sorry people if here is not the right place to post this message. I've seen lots of people with problems in the wireless but not exactly mine. Well, the problem is, I can see all the networks around me, but I can't connect to them. when I click on my wireless network to connect, it stops when is getting the ip (from the dhcp server in the modem) and it doesn't connect, doesn't show any message, anything.
But different as I've seen from another posts my K/Ubuntu don't freeze. When I was with Kubuntu 10.08 everything was working but now I am using Kubuntu 11.04 on the same notebook, HP Pavilion dv6 and the wireless not connect. lspci -nnv | grep Wireless 02:00.0 Network controller [0280]: Atheros Communications Inc. I just installed and Ubuntu doesn't recognize my wireless card HP dv2945se. I can get a wired connection. I can't figure out what kind of card I have (did the terminal command line, have no idea how to read it) or how to install a driver for this OS (HP's site just lists drivers for Windows). How to get the wireless card recognized?
Someone had just given me a pc with no OS so I installed ubuntu 10.04. The pc has a wireless card but I cannot seem to get the OS to recognize it. My wired connect is fine but wireless is non-existent.
I have lucid installed on my hp laptop without any problems, and I went to install it on another hp but the I can't connect to any wireless network. I tried to follow this thread's advice [URL] . Because it's pretty much the same problem except I think the wireless card is from a different Intel family but it didn't work.
Basically wireless networks won't show up, in fact the network icon only has "wired" as a menu option.
I tried to follow the thread, even though I had no idea what it was saying as far as instruction goes.
How do you set wireless speed in natty? I've tried
Code: sudo iwconfig wlan0 rate 54M
but nothing happens. I've tried this with wireless enabled and disabled (using network-manager), with and without the module loaded (ath9k) and using the solution provided in some forums (adding the command in /etc/rc.local and in a script in /etc/network/if-up.d) but to no avail... link speed always shows up as 65M.
I just updated my work laptop to Natty: perfect. My home server: perfect. My oldish home laptop: no more wireless. [I use wicd instead of Knetwork (or whatever it's called) because I want a permanent connection no matter the user]
I have a D-Link DWA-645. I get the whole stage: connecting, authenticating, etc... and bad password at the end. The password is correct (hasn't changed during upgrade). I also tried disabling WPA and it still won't connect. That's wlan2.
I also tried with an older PCMCIA card that _used_ to work on ubuntu 9, but stopped on version 10: a D-LinkDWL-G650. It doesn't even show up as wlan0 as it used to. I also tried with a USB-wifi DWL-G122 which has always worked on every version of Ubuntu [I don't normally use it because it's not practical on a laptop]. I see it as wlan1, but same thing: won't connect. Note that like with wlan2 I can scan for networks and see several around. For instance:
[Edit] Some more info: the access point works fine, I can connect with another device. The driver in use by Ubuntu is ath9k. Using KnetworkManager instead of wicd doesn't change anything.
How do I enable wireless in Natty Narwhal? When I type in "lshw" it tells me: *-network=DISABLEDHow do I enable wireless? I'm going crazy trying to figure it out! Also, My Ubuntu has absolutely no Internet. Not even an Ethernet connection. I'm using my Windows for my Internet right now.
I am trying to maintain another computer that runs Ubuntu, and everything seems to be running smoothly except for one thing: the wireless. Due to distance issues, I cant use a cord, but the computer is close enough to get a signal. am using a Netgear wnda3100 wireless usb adapter. I installed Ubuntu on the computer because I heard that the device was supported in Ubuntu, and it wast after a while, the adapter is no longer recognized. I have had to reinstall multiple times, and I'm no longer in the mood to reinstall. Does anyone on the UF know hwo to fix this
I just installed 10.04 on my EeePC 1000HE, and wireless isn't working. My card isn't listed when I ifconfig. I've messed around with installing the Windows drivers, but nothing has worked so far.
If it's useful, I popped off my battery and it said something about the wireless controller "NE766".
No wireless networks can be recognized in Ubuntu, and now after several attempted fixes, my wireless toggle button won't switch from orange to blue. My wireless card is Atheros AR5001. I posted in the absolute beginners forum, but I've played around so much that I think I can move on to this one I'm so sorry if posting another thread is bad etiquette, but I need to have wireless access by Friday morning, and am slightly desperate.
Attempted fixes: First, I installed the backport modules using Synaptic. Then, I installed the madwifi driver. After those failed, I used ndiswrapper to install the Windows driver (linked from the ndiswrapper page). I made sure to disable the madwifi driver and restart first. My output all looks normal--I blacklisted everything mentioned in google searches. Here is the current output of ndiswrapper -l:
Code: ndiswrapper -l WARNING: All config files need .conf: /etc/modprobe.d/ndiswrapper, it will be ignored in
I upgraded to 10.04 from 9.10. I had no problem connecting to my wireless network with 9.10, but can't with 10.04. The network shows up as available, but it won't connect when I enter the security informationBelow are the details and the information I've seen requested from others with a similar problem.I'm at my wits end.Dell Inspiron 8200 Laptop with TrueMobile 1150 wireless card.
I just installed Ubuntu on my Dell Inspiron 17R (in part to determine whether it's windows that's causing my system to freeze daily or whether it's a hardware snafu, and in part because I like Ubuntu), but it appears that Ubuntu is not recognizing my wireless router--it says no networking devices detected. I was thinking that it might have been a problem with the install, but is there any way to fix it manually?
I just bought a compac presario cq56. I run a live cd of ubuntu 10.04. My wireless network is recognized and connected but when I try to download or view any page nothing comes up.
My Asus k52 BBR9 was working great with Meerkat until I put in all the updates. Now it won't recognize my wireless: it says were connected and the icon is clear or it is dark or has the icon look pulsing where there is my connection. But I can't get online.
I recently upgraded to Ubuntu 11.04 (natty-64 bit) and my wireless PCI card is not being recognised by default. Previously, when I upgraded to 10.10 I had to go to the Realtek website, download the driver for RTL8185 and install it (following instructions in the readme file) to get my wireless card recognised and working properly. This time around, that approach doesn't seem to work. When I try to install it using "make" I get the following error:
make: *** /lib/modules/2.6.38-8-generic-pae/build: No such file or directory. Stop. make: *** [all] Error 2
So I'm running a live disk of ubuntu 11.04 because my windows 7 is totally messed up and wouldn't recognize my external hard drive and I cant back up my documents. I actually really like Linux and wanna keep it, but I have 2 problems. 1, I can't figure out for the life of me how to connect to the Internet. Its not scanning for any wireless networks and only seems to want me to connect via Ethernet. I think the problem is that it doesn't recognize my wireless card/doesn't know it's installed. Is there any way to fix that? I just want to be able to connect to wifi.
Now my second question. I can acess all my files fine, but Linux doesn't seem to register my external hard drive either, nor any other USB device. It just acts like there not plugged in. No error message or Anything. Is the a way to fix that? I fear that there might be some sort of hard ware issue, because in windows seven it doesn't recognize USB devices or my wireless card (among many many other problems) either. Although, I tried An older version of ubuntu on this same computer once and had a similar wireless issue which I was never able to resolve before my 7 was having any wireless issues.
I have a Dell Laptop which worked very well also with the wireless card. In fact the wireless card was never an issue and worked straight out of the box. However it has lost the ability to detect the wireless networks. I have plenty of networks in my area and my little netbook shows them nicely. So did my Dell laptop in the past. But now the Dell laptop shows no scan results at all although the card seems to be up and running (see terminal output below) I have to add that I had to compile a module for the WIRED network card which works excellent I always use and used a wired network and cannot say when the wireless card stopped to work PLUS I had a faulty harddisk which was replaced by Dell recently so there could be also a hardware fault since then because the laptop was opened by the service people. And yes the wireless is switched on in the BIOS If I create a wireless network with the laptop the netbook can see it, so the wireless card is broadcasting
After upgrading my laptop from 10.10 to 11.04 I can no longer connect to my home wi-fi. It was working flawlessly for months before the upgrade. The network manager just keeps spinning and nothing happens.dmesg output just keeps showing this over & over again:
Got Ubuntu 11.4 installed on my Lenovo Thinkpad X220.Except very very rare cases i'm not able to establish awlan connection.Scanning is possible at all times, monitor mode works as well.Network Controler (lspci)
I recently upgraded from Maverick Meerkat to (classic) Natty Narwhal Ubuntu Linux. I am running on a Toshiba Satellite A665 (Intel i7). I use a wireless internet connection. Under Maverick, I had no issues. Under the update, I am finding that occasionally things stop working: The indicator Applet looks fine, but from a terminal, I find that I am no longer able to ping my own router (less than 10 feet away.) This behavior occurs after working fine for a few hours. I am unsure if anything in particular triggers it (I will report back if I determine a particular cause). I have a few other computers (2 running Windows, and the other Maverick Meerkat) -- and they are unaffected. Turning wireless off and on resolves the issue for me on Natty. Rebooting also works. Here's some hopefully relevant technical details about my system:
Code: ~$ rfkill list all 0: phy0: Wireless LAN Soft blocked: no Hard blocked: no
