OpenSUSE Wireless :: Building Wireless Driver - Command Not Found

Jan 25, 2011

I got openSUSE installed, and now am trying to build my wireless driver, using the instructions here: [URL].

The wireless driver is here:
Broadcom.com - 802.11 Linux STA driver
NOTES:
- The (parenthesis: ) are my notes to show you what I was doing.
- Lines with "#" before them are what I typed into Terminal.
- Lines below (Output: ) are what was output by Terminal.

Code:
(run in su:)
lspci -n | grep 14e4
(output:)
04:00.0 0280: 14e4:4727 (rev 01)

(BUILD DRIVER:)
#su
<password>
# mkdir hybrid_wl
# cd hybrid_wl
# tar xzf <path>/hybrid-portsrc_x86-32_v5.100.82.38.tar.gz
# make

(output:)
if 'make' is not a typo you can use command-not-found to lookup the package that contains it, cnf make
(NOTE: with "cnf" it is saying "Cannot Find")
(install "make" command:)
# zypper in -t pattern devel_basis
(It installs 93 packages)
# make

(output:)
kbuild_nopedantic=1 make -C /lib/modules/`uname -r` /build M=`pwd`
make: *** /lib/modules/2.6.34-12-desktop/build: No such file or directory. Stop.
make: *** [all] Error 2

(Tried:)
# zypper in kernel-source
(It installed 3 more packages)
# make

(output:)
kbuild_nopedantic=1 make -C /lib/modules/`uname -r` /build M=`pwd`
make: *** /lib/modules/2.6.34-12-desktop/build: No such file or directory. Stop.
make: *** [all] Error 2

The problem might be derived from the fact I had to install openSUSE in Kernel (F6) > Safe Mode. If I need to install more things, please let me know ASAP! I am wired to my ethernet until then, which means I can't move from this spot until my wireless is working!

Ubuntu Networking :: No Wireless Networks Found After A While

Sep 5, 2010

I'm running Ubuntu 10.04 64bit on a Thinkpad T61, and I keep running into some issues with the wireless networks. For a while, the connection works fine (sometimes several hours, sometimes 15 minutes or so--there doesn't appear to be an event associated with it). Eventually, though, the connection disappears; first, though the widgets say I'm connected, nothing will go through, and soon after, it realizes I'm not connected and, moreover, it can't find a single wireless network, despite the fact that it was just fine a couple of minutes beforehand (and other devices still have access to the WLAN, so I know that the router hasn't crapped out). I've tried using wicd, but the same thing happens.

Ubuntu Networking :: Wireless Connections Not Found

Nov 10, 2010

I have an Acer AspireOne D255 netbook. I just installed Ubuntu Netbook Remix 10.10 and it looks pretty sweet.Right now, I'm on a wired connection. It's not detecting any networks, and I know at least my home wifi should show up (and usually we can get onto our neighbors!)I used to have a different model of an AspireOne (I think it was 531h but I'm not 100% sure) with UNR 10.04, and my network was detected right out of the box.

This reminds me of when I installed the desktop version of 10.04 on my iMac. I couldn't bring the wired connection to the room it was in, and my wifi didn't show up on it. I just gave up because I like my Mac so it wasn't a *huge* deal. but I definitely don't want to use this stupid Windows 7 Starter that comes on this netbook!

I thought that Ubuntu would automatically detect my wireless but i see no options as such.

Ubuntu Networking :: Belkin Wireless N USB Found But Won't Connect

May 4, 2010

I have been trying to get my Belkin FD8233-4v3 wireless-n usb adapter to work in Ubuntu since 8.04. It has worked with ndiswrapper under 32-bit (never the 64-bit) versions in the past, but has never been able to be configured directly. It uses the Ralink RT2870 chipset, but cannot seem to be configured using the drivers from the Ralink website.

With Ubuntu 10.04 64-Bit, everything has changed. I have high hopes that this adapter may finally work correctly and without ndiswrapper. As soon as I first booted 10.04, for the first time ever, Ubuntu recognized the IF automatically, reported my wireless router, allowed me to enter my 128-bit WEP hex code and tried to connect up. It is failing miserably, but it is making a valiant effort.

Ubuntu Networking :: No Wireless Stability - Router Not Found

Feb 6, 2011

Ubuntu 10.04 x86. Yesterday I installed 10.10 and had lots of trouble with wireless stability. I formatted the partition and installed 10.04. My wireless router does not show up in the available routers list. Neither in the list that immediately shows or under the More networks submenu. Lots of other routers from adjacent homes show up, but not mine in the other room.

Why? It shows up on all of my other computers. My MacBook, Windows 7 (different partition on same box), my older Ubuntu netbook, and it showed up on a previous install of 10.10 (though it could not maintain the connection longer than 5 minutes). It will not show up on Ubuntu 10.04. I've tried manually entering the information to connect, but it doesn't see it. I don't know what to do.

Ubuntu :: Wireless Card Not Found - USBs Not Recognized

Jun 6, 2011

So I'm running a live disk of ubuntu 11.04 because my windows 7 is totally messed up and wouldn't recognize my external hard drive and I cant back up my documents. I actually really like Linux and wanna keep it, but I have 2 problems. 1, I can't figure out for the life of me how to connect to the Internet. Its not scanning for any wireless networks and only seems to want me to connect via Ethernet. I think the problem is that it doesn't recognize my wireless card/doesn't know it's installed. Is there any way to fix that? I just want to be able to connect to wifi.

Now my second question. I can acess all my files fine, but Linux doesn't seem to register my external hard drive either, nor any other USB device. It just acts like there not plugged in. No error message or Anything. Is the a way to fix that? I fear that there might be some sort of hard ware issue, because in windows seven it doesn't recognize USB devices or my wireless card (among many many other problems) either. Although, I tried An older version of ubuntu on this same computer once and had a similar wireless issue which I was never able to resolve before my 7 was having any wireless issues.

General :: Wireless Router Can't Be Found?

Jul 27, 2010

I have a very strange problem with my wireless routers, or linux. I have 2 wireless routers one directly connected to my modem (router 1) and another wireless router (router 2) on the 2nd floor connected to router 1 without cables and configured as a repeater bridge. Router 1 is configured to broadcast the ssid and have been set up to use wpa-personal and router 2 has the same configuration as router 1 plus a virtual interface.

I am able to connect to both routers from all my windows boxes, but I fail to connect from linux (I have tried with 2 different laptops without luck). What is very strange is that I can't see the routers when I scan but I am able to see my neighbors routers. I have tried to turn off router 2 to see if it had an impact, but no luck. I know that I am able to connect to a wireless router since I have had success with that at work.Router 1 is a Siemens se551 (with default firmware) and router 2 is a linksys wrt54g (running DD-WRT build 13064).

For some reason my user account was removed from the netdev group? So I readded it...

And still, "no wireless networks found" in Wicd.

Fedora :: Wit's End - Wireless USB Is Not Being Found After Un-installing Ndiswrapper

Oct 10, 2009

After un-installing ndiswrapper my wireless USB is not being found I can't use it. I have no idea what's going on. My searches have been fruitless and I only have so much longer that I can connect directly to the router. Then I have no internet connection. I have even thought about re-installing or distro hopping, but I like Fedora and don't really want to do that. I have always been told no matter the problem there is always a way around without re-installing, eg this is not Windows.

Ubuntu Networking :: Acer Laptop - Atheros AR5B93 Wireless Not Found 10.04?

May 8, 2010

I am a Windows user, and have resigned myself to the concept that when things get completely FUBAR you need to just take a deep breath and start over.

Is there a procedure to completely delete and re-install Ubuntu, or should I delete its partition altogether, and re-create and re-install it? I can do that if I really have to.

I have not accumulated enough stuff here that I could not just make a clean start, if that will fix this mess. Somehow I imagined that this would be different from Windows, but maybe it really isn't.

What holds me back is seeing the multitude of people having trouble with wireless in 10.04. Is this a widespread problem that has a good chance of really getting fixed, soon?

At the minimum, It has fallen off the radar screen, although the hotel's system might have gone down, as it often does.

Ubuntu Networking :: No Wireless Networks Found After Correctly Installed Madwifi

Jun 2, 2010

I just installed madwifi on my MSI laptop with an Atheros AR5001 wifi card & Lucid. As far as I can see and according to System -> Administration -> Hardware drivers the install was successful and the card + driver is up and running. However, I don't see any wireless network (my windows PC can see about 5 wireless networks). I tried it with the network manager applet as well as with wicd. If I try to connect to "Hidden Wireless Network" via nm-applet, it will start to connect for a while but is unable too (although I supply it with the correct WEP settings & key) So, I'm unable to use my wireless network. What am i doing wrong?

Some information about my system:

Linksys WUSB54GP Not Found, Can't Connect to Wireless - 10.04 Lucid Lynx

I am having a problem setting up my wireless on Ubuntu 10.04 (Lucid Lynx) on my desktop computer using a Linksys Wireless-G Portable USB Adapter WUSB54GP.

The wireless has run fine on my Thinkpad X60s laptop running Lucid and with my desktop and the same USB adapter in Karmic (9.10). When I installed Lucid as an upgrade on the desktop, I could not see the adapter listed at all and could not connect wirelessly to the internet.

if I need to install drivers, edit a file, or do something else to get this working I couldn't find anything useful to actually solve my problem after searching for a while.

This should be all the important desktop system specs: Linksys Wireless-G Portable USB Adapter WUSB54GP -- not found; can't connect to wireless internet
Lucid Lynx 10.04 (straight install from CD from Canonical)

Intel Pentium 4 630HT
ATI Radeon 4650HD
