View 1 Repliesi have recently installed ubntu 9.10 and u wanted to dual boot it with xp that i already got installed i have installed it and than i didnt know how to get two my windows back becuse the grub menu didnt show and it had bugs . so i formted the ubunttu partion (to ntfs) with the live cd of it and now wiil now boot windows it showes me "grub recovery>" commend line somthing like that what to do to boot my windows back i am now with the live cd of ubuntu wrting you this.

When I'm done I'm going to make a HOWTO so that others can do what I did It's hard work, but I'm nearly done.The last problem I'm having is the WINE menu on GNOME won't show up after a install of WINE from a .deb package (it usually does). This was after I compiled WINE from source and removed it with "make uninstall" and "rm -rf /.wine".So now I installed the WINE from a deb package and the Wine menu entry is not showing up.I've tried re-installing Wine and rebooting my PC but nothing seems to work.

I created a file to show phpinfo. But configure command is missing from the list.
Check some other servers, confiugure command is there.
Is this an ubuntu issue?
my Dell OptiPlex 990 running Ubuntu 10.10 64bit is freezing irregulary after using firefox.The screen and the keyboard are frozen, all i can do is moving the mouse cursor, but i can't click at anything.The System monitor applet didn't show anything before the crash. I couldn't find the logs for the time before the freeze startetd.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI've really borked up my Gimp. I'm running 10.04 64-bit and had at some point installed gimp but don't recall how or where I got it from. The strange part is that neither Synaptic or Ubuntu Software Center showed it as being installed.
Anyway, it started misbehaving (locking up) so I figured I'd uninstall and reinstall. That's when I discovered that the system didn't show it as being installed at all. Needless to say, I couldn't uninstall it so I decided to just reinstall over the top through Ubuntu Software Center. The installation seemed to complete normally but when I tried running it I got an error stating that there was a version mismatch for libgimp and suggesting that maybe I had gimp installed in both /usr and /usr/local. Not knowing what else to do, I uninstalled via Ubuntu Software Center and then removed all gimp related files from both /usr and /usr/local. Lastly, I reinstalled again via the Software Center.
Now when I try to launch gimp I get a box in the panel's Window List titled "Starting Gimp Image Editor" but shortly thereafter it disappears and I'm back to the desktop. I've even tried it all over again but utilizing Synaptic for the final install (as well as apt-get) with the same result - it tries to load and then... nothing. I must have deleted something essential when rooting around in /usr and /usr/local that is not replaced by reinstalling gimp but I have no idea what or where. So now what do I do? I really need gimp installed on this machine. I do have a full system backup but it's a couple of weeks old and I don't want to lose all of the changes that I've made to the system since then.

after that the system didn't showing the grub menu.....it load the WinXP.......i will try two three times but the grub menu is not showing.....i am using the UBUNTU 8.10.
In Windows Explorer, if a file is focused, press Menu Key on keyboard, context menu will show on top of the file. But in Nautilus, the same action shows context menu where the mouse cursor is. That's a bit annoying. Is there anyway to make it work like Windows?

i am having a problem on Ubuntu 10.10. In system menu, there is no Administration or Preferences menu.Also, application menu does not show anything. I am using Ubuntu since 2 weeks and still not used to to the terminal commands for running applications and admin tools.
one more thing.When i booted my PC today it reported an error and process terminated before reaching the login window. So i restarted and chose recovery mode. it also reported some errors and tried to fix the problem. it deleted some files i think. and my system is working again but with above mentioned problem.

I'm supposed to be starting an online course through OntarioLearn, and they provide software called "Embanet" which all the assignments are issued and turned in through. Wine won't run the Windows XP version of the software. There's also a Mac version but I'm not sure if it would be easier to get that working. This is the error I get. I have the application set to run with Windows XP compatibility, but no luck. I think my only option is to install Windows through VirtualBox/Qemu, but as I don't have a Windows install CD for this computer (only a 64bit CD, I need 32) I don't know if it'll be possible. I have a 64bit processor (C2D T7250), but Ubuntu is installed as 32bit. Will VB or Qemu accept my 64bit installation CD?

I'm guessing there is an option to the wine command or something. But what is it? can't find anything in the man-page. Unfortunately in regular Ubuntu the appmenu doesn't show the application title, just File, Edit, and so on. The old globalmenu package showed the application title in bold, and the netbook version of ubuntu seems to as well. How can I get this in normal Ubuntu?

Now I want to try wine again, and I know it's installed, but it don't show up in applications. I've tried "edit menus > revert" but that don't work. I hear wine has made some progress and don't want to format my /home partition.
