Directory names and certain filenames appear in a bold font that gets cut off on the right side of each string of text. This issue only arose after upgrading to 10.04 LTS. I can not figure out why the upgrade would change the terminal font settings in such a way.
View 4 RepliesI just installed openSUSE 11.3 (Gnome). I am using Korean language, but I don't want to make Korean language as my default language. So I installed Korean lang as secondary language. It works well.But the problem is Korean font. Actually BEFORE installing the language, the font look much nicer. But as soon as I installed the language, the font became ugly.Even if I uninstal the language, the font still remains the same (ugly).
Where is the font setting for other languages stored? It would be nice if I can set default fonts for Korean language manually.
Whenever I set some font settings in these two web browsers, and apply them; they revert back to other fonts. The reason for this behavior is not known to me. How to set the required fonts and not allow these two browsers to change them on their own.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI am running Ubuntu 10.04. When I first installed it, the virtual terminals had a good font size. After a few weeks, I set the visual appearance setting to normal (in the gui desktop). Doing this required me to install third party graphics drivers from nvidia. in installed fine, and my gui desktop still functions as I would expect, however, all of the virtual terminals now have a much larger font size, as does the ubuntu boot logo.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI upgraded from Karmic to Lucid recently. Before upgrading, I had customized my desktop on Karmic with Compiz, Emerald and new set of fonts. After upgrade (which appears to have gone smoothly, yay!), my desktop retained the previous appearance settings. I want to try the factory default gnome appearance settings for Lucid and still stuck with restoring fonts.
What I have done till now:
0. Enabled Visual Effects from Appearance menu.
1. Theme -> Changed to Human
2. Window Manager -> Still using Compiz
3. Window Decorator -> Switched from Emerald to GTK
4. Font -> Changed first 3 font types in the Font tab to Sans, size 10, 4th to Sans Bold and 5th to Monochrome. Rendering -> subpixel smoothing (LCD)
What I want:
1. Is this the default setting? Have I missed anything in restoring default settings?
2. I have done too many changes to firefox font rendering over time. How do I restore default 10.04 font settings for Firefox? I would ideally love to have an option in Ubuntu which would help me restore factory settings.
When I increase the font size from Konqueror settings the web browser fonts change but the file manager fonts stay the same. Is there another way of setting them?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI installed Ubuntu on my Netbook. I like it to use the Terminals. I don't mean the "GUI-Terminal-Emulators", I mean those I can open with "Alt+FX". There the font size is to big, so I changed it with "dpkg-reconfigure console-setup". It worked, but after restart the font were "reseted" and big. Is there a way to permanently change the font size?

I can change background color, transparency, image, etc. in the profile edit window, save changes,and the _actual_ terminal appearance does not change at all. I did make sure to switch to the edited profile after editing -- to no avail.The default navy-on-light-blue isn't bad, but the light-green default for executables is effectively completely invisible on the light blue background.Is this a bug? If I choose to follow this upgrade path, will my existing user settings such as nautilus shortcuts, wallpaper and other personalised settings be changed or reverted to default in any way?
Or will the upgrade execute, and leave everything looking and working exactly the same?
I can't change fonts in Firefox preferences (Content).
My OS is openSUSE 11.3, KDE 4.4.4. release 8.
Any type and size of font I use, nothing happens. It's still same font which I choose for the first time I've started Firefox afer installing openSUSE 11.3.
In all previous versions of KDE I had Console8x16 set as KDE font for all cases (Settings->Appearance->Fonts). After tonight upgrade, this (only!) font is not working. I can see it in font manager, I can set it in ...Appearance->Fonts, but actually remains default font. Two of about 30 attempts somehow (can not reproduce) succeeded to set "console 12" font, but it disappeared after restart.
1. What can be the problem in 4.4?
2. In /usr/share/fonts tere are 3 files named console8x16.pcf, console8x8.pcf and console9x15.pcf, but in the font list in Appearance->Fonts I can see only 2 - one named "Console" (seems to be 8x16 and "console" (8x8). File 9x15 does not appear at all. Why?
Last results of attempts: cannot use console font in part of areas, while part works OK. For example: kdevelop editor, kmail message body text works OK. But kmail other parts - does not. The most interesting is that although setting the kmail body message text to console displays the message body text correctly (with console font), but the example message in "Configure kmail" dialogue "The Quick Brown Fox Jumps Over The Lazy Dog" is displayed in the default font, as if there is no console font!
I changed font settings in appearance utility today. But now desktop appearance and firefox fonts are too bad and I need to set it to default setting. How can I do that?

View 3 Replies View Relatedi have a computer with 3 users on it, and a folder using samba that everyone on the network has access to. Lets say that, the folder is stored in /etc/sharedfolder. What happens is, when user1 puts a folder in it, then logs off, user 2 attempts to modify it and fails, because permission is set to 755, and they are not in the same group. (even if they were, it should still need to be 775) Anyway, my current solution is, every 5 minutes a crontab changes permission like so: chmod 777 -R /etc/sharedfiles && chown useradmin:superadmin -R /etc/sharedfiles Which works, but seeing as there is getting close to a gig in there, this is a bad solution, as it eats up the computers resources. Solutions that i think might work:
1) create a script that only changes permissions that need be changed.
2) change file permission settings to force all documents to inherit parent document settings
i have LXDE 0.5.0.4 installed on top of GNOME under deb squeez, i notice slightly different shape and font hinting/rendering quality in both of them.i'm not sure if what im doing is right or wrong but since i cannot find the way to configure font settings in LXDE i try reconfiguring with sudo dpkg-reconfigure fontconfig-config still font rendering quality and shape under LXDE is different with one in GNOME, take a look at two screenshots below, both are using same font and size:

Whenever I open a Konsole via the control panel widget the font in the console window is Monospace 8. Increasing the font via settings remains in place only for the time the window is active. When opening Konsole again the font is set to tiny Monospace 8 again. I have checked the settings in the *.profile files in ~ /.kde4/share/apps/konsole. They all contain my preferred font. Still, Monospace 8 comes up. Where else should I look. I have checked all *.rc files too, that are related to konsole.

I currently have a Windows XP OS which i want to dual-boot with Ubuntu Linux 10.10 . I put the disk in the drive and chose the option to install Linux through Windows. But it hangs in the middle. I am also unable to change my BIOS settings due to which i can"t change my boot preference. My first Boot is the HDD. I want to change it to CD-ROM. Any suggestion? I also have another PC where i can boot through the CD...I tried installing there by booting from the CD but i get this error message after seeing the purple Linux screen with the loading dots. "(Process:286):Glib warning**:getpwuid:failed due to unknown user id (0)
P.S.- I am not able to see any options while the boot is going on
See the pic. It happens in both Yakuake and Konsole. I am using inconsolita size 13, but the problem occurs irrespective of size.
I think it's only the bolded text which gets cutoff, but I am not sure. This problem is especially bad when writing something using nano or vim.
Just tried it with DejaVu Sans Mono, and the problem disappears. Weird. I would still like a solution, if you know anything, I am somewhat picky about inconsolita.
I'm having a problem with the terminal. When I type it only shows the bottom half of the letters. When I highlight what I typed or when I resize the window, it then shows both top and bottom half. So, basically I can't read what I'm typing until I go back and re-highlight it. I don't know if this is relevant but I'm using ubuntu 9.10 and I have an Nvidia graphics card.

It was way back in my Linux experience so it struck to me as a clumsy and ill-managed operating system despite that the fact is the exact opposite... Well, as it appears, Slackware did have something about changing the console font since it mostly focused on terminal, you know, it booted up in terminal by default, for starters. Anyway, since Ubuntu is Linux as well, I guess there must be some way of changing the font face for the terminals, eh?
View 3 Replies View RelatedJust upgraded my second computer to 10.10, however the new ubuntu font is not being used by any of the themes. It appears in the log-in screen just fine however. On the first computer I upgraded it all worked fine, however the upgrade disabled some ppas eg. nautilus-elementary, which i had to re-enable. Second computer I disabled the ppas first, then re-enabled them after upgrade. Weird thing is that they didn't automatically select the maverick distro, just stayed on lucid. I had to manually change them whereas for the first computer they updated themselves. Is this normal, could this indicate some bigger issue?

I'd like nautilus-open-terminal to launch Terminator rather than gnome-terminal.
A quick search of my system and the web didn't reveal anything. i didn't find a gconf setting to control this. A quick look at the source code didn't help much either.
I'm running GNOME (gnome-session under xmonad). I want to turn off antialiasing (i.e. use monochrome mode) for fonts in gnome-terminal. But I want to retain antialiasing for other applications, like Firefox. Is this possible?
Antialiasing is great and almost necessary for using Firefox or Chrome. But it makes the fonts in gnome-terminal blurry at sizes around 12 or smaller.
Otherwise, I'll just have to use xterm, which seems not to anti-alias its fonts under any circumstances.
I have a ubuntu linux working in TEXT mode. I would like the change the font size (or if possible, get my terminal with inconsolata font). How can i do it?
PS: i don't have a GUI or X Windows running.
