Ubuntu :: Default Panel Clock Shows Up On Middle Of Screen When Moved To Bottom Panel?
Mar 4, 2011I have had this problem with all installations of Maverick Meerkat. Moving the default clock from the upper panel to the lower panel makes it bahave strangely. When clicked on, it now appears in the middle of the screen (sometimes even higher depending on resolution). This never happened prior to Maverick Meerkat.
How do I go about to fix this strange bug?

Well aside from not being able to see icons on the left, or go to the any terminal and not seeing anything and be forced to blind type and hope for the best there are some other issues. Enabling panel transparency shows video artefacts on the panel.nouveau doesn't enable 3D(I use a NVidia GeForce 9600 GT 512MB and my monitor is a ACER LCD X223W)) kind and point me to resources about the nouveau driver and how to configure it so it starts to work?

Sep 25, 2010So I take a glance at the time, and realize the clock has been showing the same hour for ages.Basically, if I use the gnome-panel menu for launching empathy the panel freezes. The workaround that I use is switching off showing seconds and switching it on again on the date format menu of the panel. (I never used seconds on the date format, but that way you realize the panel is frozen)I've seen this behaviour in two diferent computers I use, any hint on what may cause this? Every applet keeps working as usual, but the menu display is frozen.I'm on 10.04, using version 2.30.2 of gnome. Steps to reproduce: click on the envelope icon of the menu and launch xat. It only happens the first time (when empathy is loaded) and it gets solved if you start empathy through sessions or whatever (The problem with the sessions workaround is that I can't manage to make it started without focus).

May 3, 2010I just upgraded Kubuntu from 9.10 to 10.04. I had problems getting Nepomuk and Strigi to run on 9.10, but finally did. I was using the Soprano backend on that version. Now, it seems that Virtuoso is the new backend, Ok?
I enabled Nepomuk, and Strigi, but the setting dialog in "System Settings / Advanced / Nepomuk" says that Strigi cannot start, could be an installation problem. When I expand the system tray, I see that the strigi icon is listed, and says it's scanning.
Is the warning in the System Settings incorrect, or is Strigi really not working properly? How can I check the status from the command line, and / or restart the daemon so I can read any errors on startup.

I wanted to add icons to start Open Office Writer and terminal but for some reason I can't.I right clicked on an app (icon) to add it to the panel but that does not work.I clicked on an app (icon) and tried to move it to the panel. Aug 17, 2010I've recently installed 10.04 on my laptop and spent some time configuring it. A while ago I've noticed that there are now two battery icons in the panel in the top-right corner. One seems to be attached to the indicator applet and the other one sits by itself. Changing the settings in the Power Management menu affects both icons in the same way (I can either show or hide them both). Is there any way to remove the extra icon and just keep the one integrated into the indicator?
This is a very minor annoyance really, but it'd still be nice if there was a fix for it.
Update: Now the battery icon in the indicator applet has changed to the chat "evelope" icon, but it still acts as a battery icon (same menu). Something is definitely not right here...

Nov 8, 2010I have two icons on the far right of my top panel that have no "Move menu item". I would like to move them so that they are more to the left and the search is first on right followed by the time/date and everything else after that. One icon is Dropbox and the other is my wireless signal icon. How do I move these icons? There is no lock to panel or move menu item.

May 14, 2010I'm running an up-to-date Lucid Lynx but now getting irritated by a bug or problem (I'm not sure whether it's a bug) in Gnome-panels. The problem is whenever I add a new panel in Gnome Desktop, the new panel doesn't appears on screen and needs to be re-logon to appear. It seems a known issue when I checked for the same at Launchpad, but it existed in betas.
I found this trouble since I have made a clean install of Lucid but thought it'll be fixed in any of the updates, but it didn't solved even after the most recent update I made this morning. I wanted to report this bug but didn't knew how to file bug for gnome-panels as there's no option like 'Report a problem' for gnome panels.

Mar 15, 2010Once I select Ubuntu 9.10 from Grub, it shows the logo, the logo disappears, a jet black screen shows with 2 horizontal white dashes appear at the top.
I recently uninstalled Firefox 3.6 pre using synaptic to go with the stable Firefox 3.6 installed with the PPA repository that was given in the Ubuntu wiki. It installed and ran fine but when I rebooted, ubuntu wouldn't start.
I went into recovery mode a few times, tried to fix any broken packages and when it said it was fixed, I tried rebooting and the same error occurred. I also tried to use dpkg-reconfigure for the xserver-xorg and then ran startx but x didn't load properly. Some more debugging and a few driver errors came up involving intel so I installed a package which fixed that.
Ran the dpkg-reconfigure again and ran startx. This time x loaded but it was a jet black screen and I had to hold ctrl + alt and hit a few F keys to get back to the prompt.
I understand this could be a xulrunner error so I tried reinstalling xulrunner-1.9.1. I also rolled back my repositories to get the Firefox 3.5 branch and I installed the original Firefox 3.5, ran firefox --version to make sure and I finally have that back installed.
I tried rebooting and running the OS normally, but again it failed at the same point. What exactly should I do next? Yes, I could reinstall but it's such a small problem with maybe 1 or 2 broken packages, is there anyway I can save my current ubuntu system (as I have made countless configuration changes months ago and I do not want to do it again)?
Ubuntu :: Icons Start To Disappear In Panel
May 26, 2010I just installed Ubuntu 10.04 LTS 32Bit on my Dell Inspiron B130 Laptop, and it works great, way faster then windows XP which was pre-installed on the machine. Everything worked out of the box except for the Wireless but after some reading I was able to get it to work by plugging it in to the wired connection. but anyway the problem I'm having is that it seems like after a few days of use ubuntu starts to act up, things become out of place and not work. this even happens with Linux Mint also. By acting up I mean, Icons start to disappear in the panel, my wireless connection starts to stop working and the only way to keep it on is to either log off and try to log in using KDE instead of GNOME. or open terminal and do the command nm-appt or something someone on the chat told me to do to try and get my wireless icon working.

Sep 7, 2010First user, everything still normal. All other users and any added users basically have no desktop now. Background and arrow are there, but no right-click no panels. Have tried every option in other similar posts including deleting .config, .gnome2, etc files. Also tried all the commands at URL..I can login user with xterm session and launch gnome-panel, which provides some functionality, but this basically sucks, because there is no window manager.
