Ubuntu :: Program Downloaded Via WINE Removal Or MDAC?
Jan 24, 2010As a newbie, I'll probably be asking some absurd questions. I'm running Ubuntu 9.10. I downloaded Movie Organizer 2.7.7 and installed it with WINE. Now it will not run because it needs MDAC. Is there an MDAC program available which might help? Otherwise, how can I remove this program? It is not listed under installed programs in the Ubuntu Software Center, but is under the Applications as an "other" program.

May 26, 2010I installed the proprietary fglrx drivers, and they didn't really do anything other than break half my software or make it slower. Now the first time I installed the .run binary by just doing 'sh ati-driver-installer-10-3-x86.x86_64'. Then, after Google'ing on how to remove it, I just did 'rmmod fglrx' outside of X and deleted all the kernel modules manually. And that seemed to fix a few things, but not all.
Then I found another thread saying just turn the .run into a pkg, do installpkg, and removepkg, and I did that as well. It fixed most of the problems and seems to have deleted all traces of the fglrx ATI driver.Now, though, anytime I try to run anything 3D, like glxgears, instead of just giving me a segmentation fault, it says:

glxgears: error while loading shared libraries: libatiuki.so.1: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory I've Google'd but nothing related came up, Also I can post my xorg.conf file but I don't think that is the cause of this, because I ran 'xorgsetup' and messed around with it some, and it was doing this even before I ran 'xorgsetup' and after I ran it / modified it.
Ubuntu :: Getting Wine Applications To See Applications?
Jul 20, 2010I have a windows app installed under wine. It works fine. However, it has the ability to launch openoffice to do further functions. Obviously I have openoffice installed under linux, but the wine app cannot see it. How can I make the wine app see across the emulation layer into linux to see the app it needs? Dont tell me I need to install openoffice under wine as well to get it to work!

Jan 19, 2010My list of programs under Application > Wine had become messed up, with some entries for programs that had been uninstalled in Wine. I was unable to remove these from the menu for some reason, so I removed the entire Wine category. It was not re-added upon reinstalling Wine... do I have to add it all back manually, or is there some way to have it appear as it did when originally installed?

Apr 26, 2011I am a newbie to linux, my OS of choice is windows xp, my computers will not run windows 7 so as an alternative I am seriously thinking of changing to ubuntu after the windows support for xp finishes. with this in mind I have installed ubuntu 10.10 as a second OS on my pc. I like the speed, looks and ease of use of the OS. the only draw back is that I have a lot of windows applications that I run and sometimes beta test for a large british software company, I saw that a windows emulator was available (wine), downloaded, checked the documentation and the database, only to find the only software on the database was games. I have tried several applications (not games) only to get the error message "the file is not marked as executable". is there something I am missing or are they not supported by wine? and could all applications be supported in a future release?

Jan 29, 2011As the titles says, applications enabled under "Startup Applications" does not show up in the "Notification Area". I can see that the processes are running, like update-notifier and xchat for example, but they have now icon representing them. I don't think I've ever seen an "There are updates available"-icon since I installed 10.10.
Edit: I didn't have any pending updates, so that explains why the update-notification icon's been missing.
Edit 2: Regarding the xchat icon my guess is it's simply loading before the Notification Area applet has, any known way around this?
Ubuntu :: Editing The Destination For A WINE Launcher In The Applications Menu?
Apr 9, 2011I would like to edit the destination a launcher which opens a program using WINE. It is Applications >> Wine >> Programs >> World of Warcraft >> World of Warcraft. When I use Edit Menus to check the launcher properties I learn it is set as Type: Application, and Command: [URL]...How would I instead have it point directly at opening, with WINE, /home/dusf/.wine/dosdevices/c:/Program Files/World of Warcraft/Wow.exe?
The -opengl argument shouldn't matter as I have it preconfigured to run with opengl in the config. If relevant, when I navigate to c:/Program Files/World of Warcraft/, and open Wow.exe manually, it opens using WINE automatically.
Applications :: Game Graphical Engine - No WINE ?
Apr 27, 2010I'll say this first: we want to NOT USE WINE. we don't care how much WINE has advanced, want to avoid reliance on an outside program to run this.
I've been planning a game with someone and we want it to be able to run on linux (Umbuntu base) without wine. It should be able to also run on Windows as well, however.
The game will be a graphical MU* with combat and item systems. We have no budget- it's a shoestring sort of thing.
Here's what has been hashed out so far: Programed in C#, maybe with some .NET graphics will be 2D, however, a 3d effect is wanted for things like ascending and descending (Z axis) Partner wants to use Tom Shane's GUI library (Neoforce Controls) Partner wants to use flatredball as graphics engine I don't care what is used as long as it works without WINE
Here's the problem: Flat red ball uses Direct X and is not openGL compatible (that I'm aware of) and my partner wants the effects from the flat red ball engine. Also, the GUI library he wants is also not openGL compatible.
We need some other opensource or freeware graphics engine that can do things like flat red ball but still work in Linux. GUI packs are also nice. I Tried suggesting but Partner has issues with....Mono - Mono.XNA won't work directly using openGL - thinks it's "too hard" after playing with OpenTK even though I told him they aren't the same Java - too clunky Horde3d - Wouldn't even look at the link
We've only been working on planning stages and aren't too in-depth yet. Also, his former interest in making this run in wine without Linux seems to be dipping right along with a marked increase in wanting to rely on Microsoft.

There, I see many duplicates of wine programs, such as Windows Media Player, or Wine core exe, wine windows program loader, etc.For example, the "Windows Media Player" is listed at least 10 times in that dialog. Apr 18, 2011When I try to connect a projector to my laptop (already running) and hit the fn+f7 (the designated button for switching screen), nothing happens. I see "no source found" on projector screen and my laptop screen works perfectly. Now if I restart the laptop with the projector connected, I see all the intial booting messages on the projector screen (not on my laptop), then the gnome login screen appears on both the projector screen and laptop (when the login screen appears on laptop it looks like it has lower resolution than my usual laptop resolution). But immediately after I log in, my laptop screen goes blank, and projector screen becomes the only active screen.
If I restart without the projector, again all normal operation on laptop screen is restored.
I feel like I am missing some very silly options. Any help is appreciated.

Feb 16, 2011while trying to get a game to work on wine I was surprised to find out that the wine version that ships with sid is 1.0.1 released in October 2005. So I installed the latest release I found at [URL] like this :
dpkg -i wine_1.1.42~winehq1-1_amd64.deb
The install failed, I think because I hadn't remove the old wine version, and that's when the joy-ride started. Impossible to remove wine to restart properly. (apt-get remove libwine wine and apt-get -f install didn't) After some googling I tried this :
dpkg -i --force-depends wine_1.1.42~winehq1-1_amd64.deb
This did install the wine version I wanted, and the game ran fine after that. However the result was a borked apt-get. Tried to remove wine again with the above commands, resulting in apt-get failing to do so because it tried installing wine-unstable and reported errors similar to these : E: Could not perform immediate configuration on 'wine-unstable'. see man 5 apt.conf under APT::Immediate-Configure for details. I've followed alien bobs instructions for a multilib environment from here:[url]
And then used sbopkg to download and compile wine version 1.2.2, which went through just fine.
After that I grabbed cabextract from sbopkg and ran this: wget [url] sh winetricks d3dx9 To get the DX9.
But, when I try to run the game, this is the error I get:

The game it self ran perfectly on the 32 bit version of Slackware, tested with 13.0. So now I think I'm missing some libs or something, but I have no clue which.

I've looked through the various config files in ~home and /usr/share/wine, and can't find any parameter that might even remotely address this.
