I did a fresh install of F14, and I am using adobe 64bit flash plugin,on "some" websites such as yahoo movie trailers, flash videos are played with an audio which comes with lots of annoying noise. the video itself is played smoothly without any problem but the sound is terrible to my astonishment, this problem shows up only on a number of web sites, and on others such as ..... the sound is clear.

View 3 Replies View RelatedAfter a fresh installation of 11.3 KDE, I followed the Multi-media and Restricted Format Installation Guide and I also used the mmcheck to follow every advice and install packages that were recommended.I also spent a few evening this week digging everywhere I could to get sound when playing videos in Firefox without any success. I have the Shockwave Flash 10.1 r102 extension installed in Firefox. I also tested in Chrome that also had the flash plugin and I still had no sound.

I primarily use Opera, but flash videos do not work in either Opera or Firefox.
I play a flash video, and then play music natively the sound doesn't work. Or I can play flash and have sound but not play music with sound that's on my PC. Or I play my music on my PC, say one song, and the other is high pitched distorted, and rings. I have to exit the program and start it again for it to play nice. How do I resolve this most irritating bug?
View 2 Replies View RelatedThis could be easy but I obviously don't find the way myself, so I'm asking.I have esd running on a small device (router running OpenWRT).This has a large harddrive and a soundcard attached via USB and I'm using it to play my music via mpd, which also runs on this little device.Can't use pulseaudio, which would be better I suppose, because pulseaudio is not available for OpenWRT latest, so it's got to be esd.Playing the sound of movies I watch on my laptop through this device also works.I use mplayer and its esd-output - works nicely.
What I miss and want to do is:direct all sound from my laptop to esd on the above device.Specifically I would like to hear the sound of flash clips like those on ..... or metacafe through the nice speakers attaced to the device rather than through my laptops really low quality speakers.What I've done to get mplayer to output the movies sound through esd is:I just set the ESPEAKER environment variable to the IP of the router - and run mplayer with -ao esd.I also set the default audiosink to be esdsink - but this appearently has not the desired effect.Would I need to have esd running on my laptop?
running kubuntu 9.10 karmic koala, and my sound settings -at first glance- seem to be in order... a strange thing is occurring, is my machine haunted? my sound works when:
a. the machine boots up
b. files are played in dragon player
c. the machine shuts down
my sound does not work when:
1. i try to play streaming flash videos online (e.g. videos videos show the image but no sound will play)
2. the same goes for vlc media player: images yes, sound no.
3. i use skype *edit: additional problem*
i made no changes, that i know of, to my machine before this started happening. one day everything was working fine and i turned off my machine to go to sleep. the next day, i turn on my machine, and surprise, the sound doesn't work in some instances.
here's some background info: purchased a brand new netbook last week (samsung n130) and thought i'd set up a dual-boot to accompany the pre-installed windows xp sp3, and after a bit of research i decided upon installing ubuntu as my preferred linux os, which i believe at the time was and still is version 10.10.
but the problem is: when i attempt to watch flash videos (from videos for example) the video streams fine, but the audio is very jumpy and skips back and forth every few seconds. occasionally there are periods of say 10-15 seconds where the audio is ok. the problem exists on both firefox and chrome, and is exclusive to ubuntu. keep in mind that i'm an absolute novice when it comes to linux/ubuntu, etc.
I just got my hands on an MSI E7235-295US and slapped Ubuntu 9.10 on it. So far everything's worked great, but I am beginning to get a bit concerned about my sound quality. The laptop itself has 5 speakers + subwoofer so I should be getting 5.1 sound, if I understand things correctly (the newegg link should provide more details) and when I play anything (music, flash, videos, games, etc...) the sound comes out 'muffled'. Almost as if it is in a concert hall, maybe. I initially wondered if the problem is related to the 5 speakers and if the sound is initially only setup for two. If that is the case, nothing I've done has seemed to made any real difference. I've tried changing the master/pci channels, but it only hides it a little, and doesn't solve the problem.
This seemed to be on the right track, but the laptop is still really new and not listed in the alsa file.

Kicker Menu > Computer > System Settings > Multimedia
Select "Phonon" on the left. With Phonon selected, click on "Audio Output" at the top and notice the right box fills with all your audio devices listed in order of which device is default starting from the top. Notice the "(HDMI)" next to one of them lol? Simply click the HDMI device and then click "Defer" a few times. This should solve your Flash problems permanently. he reason why this happens is HDMI is both video AND audio. If both are being processed through a video card, theres nothing slowing it down for normal playback.
i've been experiencing an issue with audio playback for certain flash videos that stream from the web. most play smoothly, like the videos at videos. others have this strange background noise that is only present when there is audio (usually on news websites that host their own videos). when there is sound, there is a strange stuttering noise that disappears during the silent pauses.

the videos video at the top plays just fine. if you scroll down and watch the other video in the small box, you'll hear the stuttering. i have fedora 14 kde, adobe flash player 64 bit preview release 3 and rpm fusion codecs installed. the problem is also present in fedora 14 with gnome, same setup. the problematic videos play without the stuttering in ubuntu.
I am currently in the process of moving around 20TB of data from one server to another. Security is not a concern, since the data are freely available to anyone on our network anyway. There are a couple of things that I'm trying to decide on:
(1) protocol choice
Of all the choices I have--nfs, ftp, scp, rsync, samba--has anyone done any benchmarking to show which would be the fastest/most robust transfer protocol? I know nfs has slow write speeds for synchronous transfers. Asynchronous would be faster, but less robust. I'm leaning toward rsync since it performs md5sums to confirm the file transfers. (Remember if there's a 1 in a billion chance that a byte will get corrupted, then I'll have 20,000 corrupt bytes in the transfer.)
(2) Nautilus emblems
We use emblems in Nautilus to categorize files. The old and the new server have the same directory structure.Is there any way to copy the Nautilus emblems from the old server to the new server. What I want is that if a user had marked a particular file with a star on the old server, then that file would be marked with a star on the new server when he/she logs in.
I've been running F14 64 bit KDE and Flash 10.1 was installed with Autoten but videos still don't play. what else is needed to get videos to play?

Whenever I play a flash object that has sound, there is this repetitive beeping noise audible over the audio track. I've tried this on different videos and different sites, always with the same result. Whenever I play a multimedia file in Iceweasel, for example [URL]... plodes.ogv , the sound is normal, as is the sound for any multimedia file that I play in MPlayer. So, I am convinced it is a flash issue. What I don't get is why this just started happening for no apparent reason.
I can't ear any sound in '.....' when i watch videos is there anyone. i have the adobe flashplayer installed and i'm using firefox 3.5.3
View 1 Replies View RelatedSince about a few weeks, I have a problem with the sound on my Ubuntu Jaunty 64-bit. From any application it would simply provide noise instead of the real sound. The motherboard is working fine and providing sound under Vista. Initially, I then managed to change the settings in System-> Sound from Auto to one of the options, which provided for a decent test result. Now this is not working anymore either ... so I only get noise out of my speakers.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm running the latest version of Ubuntu and have been for a while now without issue. However today (actually now yesterday) i made the giant mistake of upgrading my on board HD3150 graphics to a PCIe HD5570 since then my whole life has fallen to bits.
First i noticed some visual noise on the screen. Concluding this was due to incorrect or out of date drivers i attempted to update them from the Hardware Drivers section. This gave the error:
SystemError: installArchives() failed
Activating from the command line using jockey gave the same error.
Deciding a reboot might be needed i did so. On power up all ubuntu and recovery modes produced an unskinned GUI with no desktop icons that responded to no mouse or keyboard input.
I was forced to reinstall the operating system.
On reinstalling and losing everything i had installed previously (it's going to take many days to get that all back and working again!), i still have the screen noise, have still been getting the same errors on attempting to activate the drivers, except now i also get this:
the installation of this driver failed.

I'm running Ubuntu 10.10 in a Samsung R510. I've tried to record sound with an external microphone and there have always been a permanent noise accompanying it.I thought it could be the internal microphone, that's causing the noise, but even when I disabled it the noise remains. Or maybe I didn't disable it the right way !

Well I've been trying to get suse 11.x up on antec media center and run mythtv on top of the platform. Only one thing "partially" missing is the sound. I hope that I'm not annoying anybody by posting this on the wrong site but hopefully somebody will give my directions on that or if there are something that I forgot to mention. I'm lost here and I hope somebody has the same problem and a solution to this problem ! Problem. Mythtv, xawtv and tvtime all display picture close to 100%. Sound start as 100% ok but after 30s - 100s gets lot of white noise in it.

After installing Catalyst with VA-API began a strange problem with the sound via HDMI. Prior to installing the sound worked fine. Platform: MSI E350IA-E45 with Radeon HD 6310 and AMD Zacate E350 Version of Catalyst 11.4. After installing the sound is playing with a terrible noise Sample: [URL]... If I play the same ..... video on Ubuntu and then on the Vbox WinXP machine the difference is startling. It sounds beautiful on the WinXP machine. Is there any way to improve the sound quality on Ubuntu? When I play the video (any video) on Ubuntu there is a lot of static noise to contend with.

I was experiencing too many problems with pulseaudio and other apps, so I uninstalled pulseaudio and now I'm using alsa exclusively. However, since doing so I no longer have sound when viewing flash in firefox. Sound when playing movies and/or listening to music is totally fine. I tried removing firefox and flash-plugin and installing them again but to no avail. I'm on FF 3.0.12 and flash-plugin 10.0.22.87-release.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI just changed my sound profile in the sound preferences menu to Analog Surround 5.1 Output, and now since doing that, Flash player in Firefox has no sound and when I play Minecraft there is also no sound. Sound was working before I did this. I have tried reverting back to the previous settings, but that did not work. I tried rebooting, but no successes from that either. Also, when I test my speakers through sound preferences, they work. System sounds also work.
