I'm using awk to read lines of text from files based on user input. My code looks like this:
Code:
awk 'NR==4' "/home/username/folder/$variable"
This code displays the fourth line of text from the named file. In this case, the fourth line of text is a new path. I want to then move a different file to this new path but I can't figure out the correct syntax to do this.
Running 10.10 and win 7 on my HP dv6-2150us laptop and I'm having a few issues.
First how do I get HDMI audio output to my TV? I think I have just a integrated Intel graphics card. It works fine in windows but I can't seem to get it to work in Ubuntu. I tried searching but couldn't find anything pertaining to this issue.
I am sure that this is very simple but I have installed sound juicer and the gstreamer plug ins. The problem is i still cannot select MP3 as an output output option
I don't know anything about ubuntu. Could you guys help me out. I'm pretty knowledgeable with windows if you guys need a printout of something let me know. My friends getting really frustrated about this. Help!!i
So here's the situation. He plugs his audio jack into his computer and then into the speakers but it still plays from the computer speakers.
I finally got audio working on my ubuntu 9.10 desktop... now I am having sound issues watching movies from a network share.The sound device continually randomly changes to "dummy output device" and then there is no sound output. The sound icon dissapears on the toolbar. To get it back and audio to start working I have to $sudo alsa force-reloadIt seems to happen everytime there is a network delay, the movie will stop for a second and then when it plays the sound is gone
I'm still trying to find out if my coby mp3 player will actually play mtv video files as is advertised.
ffmpeg -formats does list mtv but the only command I really ever used was one to convert a vid to an mp3 so I tried Code: ffmpeg -i test.mp4 -acodec copy output.mtv it returns Code: Unable to find a suitable output format for 'output.mtv' I can't find any mtv files online for purchase or free for that matter, so I know this is all pretty obscure but shouldn't there be a way to convert them since ffmpeg lists mtv format?
This is a fresh install of Ubuntu 9.10 64bit on a Compaq 6715b laptop.Everything is working OK except the fingerprint reader. So to look for the device I did this:
Code:
sudo lshw
but was a bit alarmed when I saw this:
*-volume:0 description: EXT4 volume vendor: Linux physical id: 1 bus info: scsi@0:0.0.0,1
I am using ubuntu 10.04 and I installed svgalib 1.4.3 and while i run a simple c graphics program I can't get the output of this instead its getting an output in a black screen saying"USING VGA driversvgalib 1.4.3"
I ve done lsusb and it finds the usb speakers. but I cant get an output at all, whatever I do in preferences/sound or preferences/pulseaudio preferences.Booted with XP and speakers work fine. Sound worked fine with Lucid and has done until today with Maverick, did have similar probs with sound going sometimes with Karmic, but they could always be sorted by adjusting the settings, cant get anything and its sudden,
This started today in my session: no audio output. In sound preferences, hardware, in Profile, the options are now Off and Analog mono input. In Output tab, I see Dummy output stereo as the device. Nothing is muted.
I just upgraded from Ubuntu 9.04 to 9.10 today, and went to watch a movie on my hard drive. I typically do this with an S-Video cord on my TV. In Ubuntu 9.04 I did so simply by plugging in the S-Video cord, then pressing FN+F4 on my keyboard. Worked like a charm.
After the upgrade the same key combination just changes my resolution setting.
how to connect using my TV as a monitor using SVideo cables. I connect the computer and it boots up fine so that I can see it booting up with Grub until Ubuntu loads then the screen goes black and starts to flicker. I was previously able to connect using Windows can I do the same with Ubuntu and do I need to upload drivers.
I recently installed Kubuntu 9.10 (I think, the latest anyway) on my gf's computer. Everything works great, except for the sound output. The volume control works, (both the buttons on the computer and inside Kubuntu) but there is no sound output whatsoever (not in vlc, system sound etc). Ive googled a little, and I've seen some tips about get it, right click in on sound settings in the panel, and choosing preferences, I don't seem to have that tab, however I've got a "show mixer window" where I the can adjust volume.
I've got 2 tabs here ; 'HDA ATI SB' and 'HDA ATI HDMI' I guess the first one is the one that is the ordinary output, the other if I connect a tv or something. I've also read something about 'alsa' and 'alsamix' I don't seem to have that one, and I've tried sudo apt- but I've haven't been able to find it. I dont know if it is of any importance, but it is the 64bit version of Kubuntu. I'm not sure about exactly what soundcard and driver I've got, but the computer (laptop) is a pretty new HP, and when I run:
Code: cat /proc/asound/card0/codec#*| grep Codec I get the answer Code: Codec : IDT 92HD75B3X5
I'm running a Toshiba Satellite laptop and am having trouble with the function or Fn keys. When running xev from the terminal I get no output for when I press the Fn key and I can't assign any keyboard shortcuts using it. However I'm still able to use some of the Fn+F# combos such as lock the screen or mute.
I have a on-board video card (ATI Radeon HD4200) that capable to output HDMI as well as VGA.I connected both into my TV (which also have VGA input as well as HDMI). Here is the weird thing:IF I reboot my computer (9.10 64bit) with my TV set to display HDMI, then after I login at my workspace, my HDMI display got cut off at the edge! BUT my VGA display correctly when I switch to it on my TV.HOWEVER, IF I reboot my computer with my TV set to display VGA, then after I login at my workspace, my VGA display correctly AND my HDMI display correctly.What's the deal here? I am trying to use only HDMI connection and eliminate the VGA as well as the analog audio wire (which the HDMI audio is another big problem but for another post).
I have my pc hooked up to my tv using hdmi. Problem is my tv only accepts YCbCr. Is there any way to have the nvidia card NOT output RGB and output at YCbcR? Currently the blacks and whites are crushed and out of whack. The pc is a revo atom 230, if that matters.
As title suggest I can't output 5.1 sound with Ubuntu 10.4 which I nevere faced in earlier version like any 9.04 or 8.10,8.04 etc etc.I came from 9.04 to 10.4 and noticed that sound preference has changed which earlier have Windows XP Like long sound panel.My Board is Intel 945GTP which have 3 jack
Green=>Sound Output =>Front 2 channel Pink=>Mic In =>Center Sub Blue=>Line In =>Rear Channel
My Problem: The output redirection auf a script works if the script is called in the terminal but not when its called via crontab.
My Situation: I have 2 scripts: ~/backup1 Code: echo backup a to c rsync -a -v --progress --delete --exclude=.Trash-1000 /path/a/ /path/c/backup/ echo backup b to c
Im running ubuntu 10.04 on a Acer TravelMate 5520, ATI Xpress 1250. The Sony 40" TV is connected to the laptop with a VGA plug, but with 10.04 im finding the output picture is wobbly, distorted regardless of resolution.
It does work fine on ubuntu 9.04, picture perfect. Ive booted into both and checked the resolution and their identical.
Today went from jaunty to koala then to lucid. The package manager doesnt work nothing works in terminal for apt-get or anything getting the message ---->
I have a python script, called test.py, that does the following:
Quote:
while (1):
....print "hello world"
(this script simply prints 'hello world' continuously).Now, I am using two machines (machine A and machine B). Same user is used for both machines. I would like to do the following:
(1) [working with machine A] run test.py programatically on machine A { meaning, a local python script will be running test.py using say os.system(....) } ( at this point, the script test.py is printing "hello world" to the screen of machine A )
(2) [working with machine B] I now want to log in into machine A using ssh and 'view' the output of the script that we ran in (1)
How do I achieve this? I know how to write the script that will be running and starting test.py on machine A. I also know how to ssh from machine B to machine A.
What I don't know is:
(*) What command should I use in (1) in order to run the python script so that its output can be easily viewed while logging from a different machine (machine B) to machine A?
(*) Following the ssh from machine B to machine A, how do I 'navigate' to the screen that shows the output of test.py?
I have two computers both running Ubuntu 10.04. I use my laptop to ssh to the other computer. If I start for instance firefox via ssh from my laptop to have the browser showing up on the screen attached to the computer I ssh to? The computer i ssh to is better in handling graphics so I want to connect it to the TV and use my laptop as remote-control.
