My computer freezes and I am trying to diagnose the issue. When.. Using Devede to convert avi to dvd. (almost always) Using Firefox on pages using macromedia flash or java apps. With multiple windows open using terminal. I am strongly leaning towards this being a HARDWARE issue.

I've been using Firefox Portable for ages, mainly between my work (Windows XP) and home (Ubuntu) machine. Recently, just on Ubuntu (10.04), Firefox Portable has started freezing on pages containing Flash. Anyone else experiencing this? I've done a clean re-install of Firefox Portable, then just added Flash, and it still freezes.
View 3 Replies View RelatedAbout a month ago I got the usual "time to update your plugins" and was redirected to adobes webpage. However, the plugin it offered me was incompatible with my build, an AMD Turion 64 X2. I tried downloading some other Macromedia Flash Plug-ins from synaptic and none of them have worked. Since then I've been using vista primarily. I enjoy using ubuntu alot more, especially with all the work I put into my desktop and getting compiz the way I wanted it, but if I can't stream videos then there's simply no reason for me to use ubuntu. I don't have to go back to vista.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI use different browsers for sites like facebook and general browsing (specifically rekonq for facebook, firefox for others).
However, I find that Flash cookies are shared between browsers, and are not cleared when clear my browser cookies.
Flash cookies are kept in ~/.macromedia, and it's OK for me to clear this periodically with a little cron job. However, I would really like separate places for flash cookies from rekonq and firefox.
Does anyone know how to do this? Maybe there is an environment variable which allows this?
My second implementation option would be to make a chrooted environment for each browser or something like that.
I have faced following problem in my office opensuse server there are 6 users working at a time from terminal.all are using java,php eclips programming application.The system is working fine for every user as reported.but it is going to be slow if we start any macromedia flash 8 releted web application on browser.I have checked memory,cpu usege also check iostat,mpstat everything on it ,no such difference.

it also complains sometimes that i do not have java. but i do have java on my system. i think slackware comes with java included afaik. is there some sort of process or a tutorial i must read to get these things all set up? also, do i still have to install some kind of flash application?
I'm using 8.10, but wanted to upgrade firefox to the latest version, so I downloaded the tarball from their website and compiled that. FF 3.6 works fine, but I havn't been able to get my flash or java plugins to work since.

I always keep my machine updated with the update mgr, did some plugin updates but stil no videos. I'm getting tired of copying and pasting url's into epiphany each time I want to see a video. That's the error I get. When trying to run a java app with the firefox plugin, the browser simply crashes if it's the 64bit java or tells me it's not installed if it's the 32bit version.
I'm at a loss as to what to do. I think it has something to do with leftover gunk from a previous version I misinstalled(Is that even a word?) Anyway, the only thing that google could come up with was a solution for windows which laid blame on Bill Gates for having a bunch of pf (java prefetch) files stuffed into c:windows for no apparent reason. The solution was to delete them, but I can't seem to find the java prefetch folder in linux. The method I used is downloading the rpm from java.com the rpm2tgz then installpkg then cp libnpjp2.so to firefox plugins folder.
After upgrading java (jre) to 1.6.0_19, the java plugin no longer loads into Firefox. All the rest of my plugins from /usr/lib/mozilla/plugins/ load fine.Java can be a pain such a pain the neck!

I extracted the game to the recommended folder.I have JRE already installed via Install and Remove Applications utility. Is there something else I should do? Out of no where Firefox has just decided to not load web pages anymore. I've restarted my router, restarted my wifi card, restarted my computer, *completly* uninstalled Firefox then reinstalled it, still no luck at all. Anyone have any idea how to fix this? I'm stuck using Google Chrome now, I like it but I need the Add-Ons FireFox has (AdBlock Plus, Xmarks, DownThemAll, etc.)

Basically all it does is sit there saying "Connecting to www.google.com..." for like 15seconds then gives me one of two pages, "The connection has timed out - The server at www.google.com is taking too long to respond." or "Unable to connect - Firefox can't establish a connection to the server at www.google.com."Google Chrome, Skype, Ubuntu's built in messenger, System Update, and so on connect just fine to the internet.

View 9 Replies View RelatedWhilst I like Ubuntu as an operating system and generally am fine with Firefox, could anyone explain why I sometimes get errors in trying to get through to various web pages. I don't get the same errors in IE8. As an example, my telephone billing provider; I can login on both IE8 and Firefox and get into all the screens in IE8 but not always in Firefox as happened to me 30 mins ago (I think the version installed is 3.5 on Ubuntu 9.10). There is a message at the bottom of the screen showing that Firefox is trying to connect to a sub page, but it just can't display. Is there anything that I can do to resolve this and is it an encryption issue? This isn't the first time I've had issues with Firefox. In Ubuntu 9.04 the screen used to sometimes go fuzzy when I used the firefox version there.

I've Intellij Idea and Netbeans installed on my Ubuntu desktop. Both worked fine while I was on 10.10.After upgrading to 11.04 both of them became irresponsive to Ctrl+C/Ctrl+V/Ctrl+{Any alphabet letter} combinations. However these combinations work in non-Java apps (e.g. gedit).Besides that Ctrl+Alt+L (Lock screen) is not handled by the system, no matter what application is active.Disabling unity does not help. Starting in ubuntu classic w/o effects does not help either.
