Ubuntu :: Update Manager Error - DPKG Interrupted

Jul 16, 2010

I keep getting the following error when the Update Manager runs.

Code:
E: dpkg was interrupted, you must manually run 'sudo dpkg --configure -a' to correct the problem.
E: _cache->open() failed, please report.
If I open up a terminal and run sudo dpkg --configure -a I then get the following error.

Code:
dpkg: parse error, in file `/var/lib/dpkg/updates/0002' near line 1:
newline in field name `

How to fix this as I can't install any updates.

Ubuntu :: Updates With Tweak And Video Codec - Error "dpkg Was Interrupted, You Must Manually Run 'sudo Dpkg --configure -a' To Correct The Problem"

May 26, 2011

I installed the software Ubuntu Tweak yesterday and I was satisfied of how it worked. today, surfing the internet I was hoping to find a solution to a couple of problems that I have: the computer sometimes get stuck when opening videos or photos - I can't see streaming TV. when the internet browser was asking me to install plug-in in order to show the videos I tried to install them but errors occurred.

so I followed the instruction in [URL] (many of these things didn't work and the terminal was showing error messages...) now after rebooting I have got the unity 2D I think (which is fine as I can't notice great differences) but I can't install the updates from Ubuntu Tweak the error message is: E: dpkg was interrupted, you must manually run 'sudo dpkg --configure -a' to correct the problem. E: _cache->open() failed, please report. how can I fix it and get my video codecds?

Ubuntu :: DPKG Interrupted - How To Remove Unneeded Installs

May 24, 2010

I attempted to install gnucash just now to test it out, but, in the middle of the installation (which I was doing through Terminal), something happened and dpkg was interrupted. I'm unable to provide the Terminal output because (a) for some reason, prior to the error messages about a segment fault, the terminal shows a number of blank lines and does not show me what happened before the segfault, and (b) after the segfault, when I tried starting up gedit or make a screen capture, the prompt windows were blank, so I was unable to save the terminal output to either.

When I restarted Ubuntu, it told me that /tmp was not ready; I waited for it to mount, and, apparently, it did, as Ubuntu restarted fine. I tried updating my software, as the icon in my panel was telling me I needed updates. However, it told me that dpkg had been interrupted and that I needed to troubleshoot it with sudo apt-get install -f, which then told me to run sudo dpkg --configure -a, which I did, receiving the following output:

Code:
sqlu@thalamus:~$ sudo apt-get install -f
[sudo] password for sqlu:
E: dpkg was interrupted, you must manually run 'sudo dpkg --configure -a' to correct the problem.
sqlu@thalamus:~$ sudo dpkg --configure -a
Setting up libktoblzcheck1c2a (1.24-2) .....

It looks like there were errors with a number of packages, and I'm guessing something else might have also broken. Since I'm already using homebank and don't really need to use gnucash, I was wondering if there was a way for me to check what was installed by gnucash and remove those packages, since they're cluttering my system, and I'm concerned that they might interfere with other packages if they're broken or something. I've been using Ubuntu for about two years now and have some knowledge of the command line and such, but I'd say my skills are still pretty basic. I'm running 64-bit 10.04.

Ubuntu :: Sudo Aptitude Install USplash - DPKG Interrupted

Jan 2, 2010

I was installing something, usplash, I think it was...
I ran $ sudo aptitude install usplash
and after it asked me if I wanted to install some aditional packages, it returned this:
E: dpkg was interrupted, you must manually run 'sudo dpkg --configure -a' to correct the problem.

I have seen this error before. I just ran the command
$ sudo dpkg --configure -a
And it returned this:
Setting up initramfs-tools (0.92bubuntu29) ...
update-initramfs: deferring update (trigger activated)

Processing triggers for initramfs-tools ...
update-initramfs: Generating /boot/initrd.img-2.6.28.10-some-string-here
Cannot find /lib/modules/2.6.28.10-some-string-here
update-initramfs: failed for /boot/initrd.img-2.6.28.10-some-string-here
dpkg: subprocess post-installation script returned error exit status 1

I did an:
$ aptitude search initramfs-tools
and I noticed that it had a "C" next to it. I think this has something to do with the package not being configured correctly or at all. Also looks like it is trying to generate an initd, but missing something. That kernel name looks kinda funky, though...

Debian Configuration :: Update Manager/dpkg Stalls

Jun 26, 2011

I have used Debian on this computer for over a year now. A little while back update manager stopped working. It now prompts me to update a varying number of packages (85-97), but when I try and run it I get this message:

E: dpkg was interrupted, you must manually run 'dpkg --configure -a' to correct the problem.
E: _cache->open() failed, please report.

I'm not sure where to report this. I'm the only user of this computer. I tried running dpkg as directed, but that results in the following:

shop-amd-rebuild:/home/steve# dpkg --configure -a
Setting up linux-image-2.6.26-2-amd64 (2.6.26-26lenny1) ...
Running depmod.
Running mkinitramfs-kpkg.

[Code]....

I'd sure like to update, and not reinstall.

Ubuntu Installation :: Upgrade Interrupted - Unable To Access DPKG Status Area

Jan 6, 2010

I was in the process of upgrading my ubuntu system (probably the latest version, it was about a month ago) and my computer froze (it does that on occasion). I have looked around this site, and tried a few things. I assume I am supposed to use the command "sudo dpkg --configure -a" to fix it. The problem is that when I do that, I get the message "dpkg: unable to access dpkg status area: read-only file system". So, what do I do now? I definitely dont want to mess up my system, but I want to fix it.

Ubuntu :: Massive Bork, 'GNOME Power Manager' Error - Dpkg Corruption?

Jun 23, 2010

I've tried to research my issue as best I can before posting here. System is 10.4 32bit on Acer Aspire 5720. Here's the chain of events: First noticed Firefox couldn't create a file under /tmp to download Virtualbox. Hm. Try to reload Firefox, it won't restart; freezes with one tab open, blank with transparent square in top-left, not a chrome loaded if I remember right. Both latest stable and Dev Preview. Maybe a reboot will work...Normal Ubuntu loading screen appears, but before anything else a message box appears near top right of screen: Quote:

Install problem! The configuration defaults for GNOME Power Manager have not been installed correctly. contact your computer administrator. Shortly after, an abnormally styled pop-up appears asking me for my default keyring password - seemingly skipping the account login step. When I put in the keyring and click 'Ok', the button stays pressed down and the system hangs. Have to switch off. Boot into recovery mode, root with networking. I read somewhere that "dpkg --configure -a" followed by "apt-get -f install" might help. However, "dpkg --configure -a" fails thusly:
