Ubuntu :: Updates With Tweak And Video Codec - Error "dpkg Was Interrupted, You Must Manually Run 'sudo Dpkg --configure -a' To Correct The Problem"

May 26, 2011

I installed the software Ubuntu Tweak yesterday and I was satisfied of how it worked. today, surfing the internet I was hoping to find a solution to a couple of problems that I have: the computer sometimes get stuck when opening videos or photos - I can't see streaming TV. when the internet browser was asking me to install plug-in in order to show the videos I tried to install them but errors occurred.

so I followed the instruction in [URL] (many of these things didn't work and the terminal was showing error messages...) now after rebooting I have got the unity 2D I think (which is fine as I can't notice great differences) but I can't install the updates from Ubuntu Tweak the error message is: E: dpkg was interrupted, you must manually run 'sudo dpkg --configure -a' to correct the problem. E: _cache->open() failed, please report. how can I fix it and get my video codecds?

Ubuntu Installation :: 'sudo Dpkg --configure -a' Freezes And Does Nothing For A Long Time?

Sep 21, 2010

I'm trying to fix a friends EeePC notebook (Asus) running a recently upgraded Ubuntu 10.04 from Karmic Koala. She used the update manager for the upgrade to 10.04 LTS and everything was fine until she had tried to install something from the Ubuntu Software Center (she doesn't remember what happened). After that, both Update manager and Synaptic stopped working.Update manager gives the following error:Quote:Software index is broken. ... Try to use synaptic for something?!...

Then Synaptic manager gives the following error:Quote:E: dpkg was interrupted, you must manually run 'sudo dpkg --configure -a' to correct the problem. E: _cache->open() failed, please report.And when I try that command, the terminal just keeps blinking with the cursor and does nothing for more than an hour. This is the output of the comand:Quote:

jasna@Jasna:~$ sudo dpkg --configure -a
[sudo] password for jasna:
Setting up moodle (1.9.4.dfsg-0ubuntu4) ...

Software :: Broken Dependencies Using Sudo Dpkg -?

Jan 17, 2011

I have a fairly old debian distribution running on the linux Kernel 2.6.18-4-686 and I did something silly which has broken multiple packages. I use the manual package installation command (sudo dpkg -i filename.deb) to install a single package (gcc base) however I did this using the latest version of the package which seems to have broken my GCC package completely and I am unable to compile c++ anymore.

When I now load the Synaptic Package Manager it tells me that I have 10 broken packages and when I use the fix feature it tells me I need to update other packages to fix the depencies (it selects almost every single package on my system to be removed at this point!).

I cant change the system too much because the software packages are set up specifically to run a certain application and I don't want to change anything incase I make it stop working!

So my question is this:

If I go to the synaptic Package Manager and uninstall the broken packages (they are all gcc related), will I be able to use the aptitude command to install GCC again? If so will it automatically install the version of GCC that will work with my system? or will it try and install the latest version and then update the rest of my system?

Ubuntu Installation :: Update Manager Not Restart 10.4 Update After Broken Download

After downloading almost 95% of the update, it gave an error message of "could not download certain components. downloaded files will not be erased" and stopped the update. I restarted the PC, and started the update manager again. But now it does not show any option of update to 10.4. how do I continue or resume the update process? I just started using ubuntu about 15 days back. So, I am relatively new to this.

Debian Configuration :: Update Manager/dpkg Stalls

Jun 26, 2011

I have used Debian on this computer for over a year now. A little while back update manager stopped working. It now prompts me to update a varying number of packages (85-97), but when I try and run it I get this message:

E: dpkg was interrupted, you must manually run 'dpkg --configure -a' to correct the problem.
E: _cache->open() failed, please report.

I'm not sure where to report this. I'm the only user of this computer. I tried running dpkg as directed, but that results in the following:

shop-amd-rebuild:/home/steve# dpkg --configure -a
Setting up linux-image-2.6.26-2-amd64 (2.6.26-26lenny1) ...
Running depmod.
Running mkinitramfs-kpkg.

[Code]....

I'd sure like to update, and not reinstall.

Ubuntu :: Apt-get And/or Dpkg Broken?

Feb 10, 2010

I installed a 8.04 server operating system on a machine and wanted to explore gbindadmin so I used apt-get to download and install ubuntu-desktop. After the downloads completed the packages began installing and the system crashed. When I rebooted the system started on tty1 again and I tried apt-get install again. I received and error directing me to run "dpkg --configure -a" and when I did that the install resumed again.However part way through error messages started flying after each package saying they could not be configured and the install aborted. I shut if of, walked away for a bit, and when I rebooted gnome's login screen came up. I tried logging in and it failed, and I can't switch to any other TTY. I can however get in using gnome's failsafe terminal. I tried dpkg --configure -a again and the failures start with saying /var/run/dbus does not exsist and cannot be configured. I tried (on a whim) dpkg --configure dbus and recieved:

Code:
