Ubuntu :: Un-Mountable Sony DVD+R/RW DRU540A !?

Jan 4, 2010

I can't get Ubuntu to mount my Sony DRU540A, no matter what I do. Audio CDs, Data CDs and burning are impossible, does anybody have any ideas on how to mount this unmountable drive? It worked well enough to install Jaunty Jackalope, and I never had any problems using this drive with windows xp, but now that I've upgraded Karmic Koala it doesn't seem to work no matter what I try.

Ubuntu :: Alternate Install CD Not Mountable?

Jun 11, 2010

I've upgraded to the new 10.04, and when I have the Alternate CD in, it shows on my desktop, and I can search all the contents of the CD, so I know it's registering. But when I try to install anything, via the terminal, .deb packages, synaptics package manager, it always asks me to insert the CD. Then I click ok and it says it's not mountable, even though I know it is because it's on my desktop.

Ubuntu Installation :: Raid 0 Is Not Mountable After Reboot

Jan 7, 2010

I currently am setting up an htpc running Karmic. The problem I am having is getting my Raid 0 to be mountable. My raid is not my boot partition, but is for data storage. My setup is a zotac motherboard with three sata connectors. I have a 300 GB drive, my eSata port, and my DVD attached to these. In the PCIe expansion slot I have installed Syba 2 port Sata PCIe 1a card using the Sil3132 sata II host chipset. Off of this I have 2 1.5Tib Hdds that I am setting up as Raid 0. During the boot I enter the chipset BIOS and establish this as a Raid 0.

When I install Karmic it sees the Raid and my 300 GB drive so I install to the 300 GB Drive and everything works fine. I am able to boot to the Hdd and run the OS. I then installed GParted and setup a partition on my RAID as GPT since I want one large partition of 2.78Tib. I then Format it through GParted as ext4 and I am able to mount and access it. I then reboot the system, and can no longer mount the filesystem. What I found interesting is If I reopen GParted I can then mount it. I traced it down to the fact that the until I access GParted the Block Special Device (sil_bgabagabaedd1) does not appear in /dev/mapper. Everytime I reboot I need to go into GParted to restore the Block Special Device then it is mounted. I think I am missing something in the raid setup as to why it is not being retained. What have I missed? What do I need to do to retain the Block Special Device? Is there a boot config setting?

Edit: I did further research and found that if I do kpartx it will appear just as gparted, but on reboot vanishes. I found something similar at this thread but not comfortable in updating dmraid: [URL] I think it is related to gpt and I will try to use a smaller partition to see if the behavior changes.

Hardware :: CD-ROM Not Mountable In XFCE4?

May 6, 2011

After I upgraded from Lenny to Squeeze, Thunar (in Xfce4) can't seem to detect when a CD is placed in the CD-ROM drive. When I put a USB in the USB port, Thunar adds an icon to the desktop, but with data CDs this isn't happening, and I must mount them from the terminal. However, CDs made from an ISO, for example, my Debian install CD, are detected and appear on the desktop.

Slackware :: USB Devices Not Mountable From Kde?

Dec 17, 2010

i booted up this morning and got a surprise. when i plug in a usb drive normally, it pops up in the k message box, and i can choose too mount it. then it mounts no problem.

when i turned on the computer today, however, i plugged in my usb drive, and clicked to mount it, and lo and behold, i got a strange message:
'Could not mount the following device: USB 8GB'

when i choose more information, i get this:

Code:

org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.AccessDenied: Rejected send message, 1 matched rules; type="method_call", sender=":1.12" (uid=8691 pid=2415 comm="kdeinit4: plasma-desktop [kdeinit]) interface="org.freedesktop.Hal.Device.Volume" member="Mount" error name="(unset)" requested_reply=0 destination="org.freedesktop.Hal" (uid=0 pid=1887 comm="/usr/sbin/hald))

im not entirely sure what this means. i can mount the drive manually through the terminal if it's running as root, but thats not a particularly practical way to do things, as i am a student and often have to switch USB drives and ipods many times a day.

Fedora :: Nikon Camera Is Not Mountable?

Sep 9, 2010

I have a compact-flash card that has some corruptions. I woiuld like to try to fix this by copying out the data from the flashcard using ddrescue or something and then trying to fix the filesystem outside the flash.

BUT Fedora does not allow me to really mount / make a block device of the usb-device, so I can not use ddrescue to copy out the disk-image.

Why is my Nikon camera not a block device, and then the other "GUI-applications" triggered on that device in stead?

Ubuntu Servers :: WebDAV - Mountable But Empty Below 2nd Subdir Level?

Jul 3, 2011

I am using Safesync from Trendmicro to backup my data. Since some time I am experiencing heavy problems. Normally my Backup should look like this: But when I am mounting it with WebDAV, it is looking different:

Code:
cdrewing@christian-desktop:~$ sudo mount -t davfs http://dav.trendmicro.safesync.com /media/Safesync
[sudo] password for cdrewing:
Gib bitte den Benutzernamen fr den Server http://dav.trendmicro.safesync.com an; wenn du keinen angeben willst, drcke Return.

[Code]...

Note: When I am mounting Safesync with Nautilus, everything is functional and ok. But I need my command line access because I want to use rsync. A workaround could be to access the resource via the nautilus mount. Where can I find this via the command line?

General :: Create A Filesystem Mountable By Windows?

Mar 5, 2010

I have attached an external USB disk to my debian gnu/linux system. The disk showed up as device /dev/sdc, and I prepared it like this:created a single partition withfdisk /dev/sdc (and some more commands in the interactive session that follows)formatted the partition withmkfs.msdos /dev/sdc1If I then attach the USB disk to a Windows XP or Vista system, then no new drive becomes available. The disk and its partition show up fine in the disk managment tool under "computer management", but apparently the file system in the partition is not recognized. How do I create a FAT32 file system which can actually be used in windows?edit:I've given up on this and went with a NTFS file system created by windows. In debian lenny this can be mounted read-write but apparently it requires you to install the "ntfs-3g" package and explicitly pass the -t ntfs-3g option to the mount command.

Ubuntu :: Unable To Play Audio CD's Or Video DVD's - Unable To Mount Disc: Location Is Not Mountable

May 24, 2010

I'm totally unable to play or mount audio CDs and unable to use video DVD's on my box right now. When I insert an audio CD I get a dialog box saying:

Unable to mount disc: Location is not mountable

and if I check messages in the Log File Viewer I see the following text repeated (save for the last line) a couple of dozen times.

Code:

May 24 13:04:37 Amber kernel: [ 6680.434685] sr 0:0:0:0: [sr0] Result: hostbyte=DID_OK driverbyte=DRIVER_SENSE

May 24 13:04:37 Amber kernel: [ 6680.434695] sr 0:0:0:0: [sr0] Add. Sense: Illegal mode for this track

[code]...

on a similar but ultimately unrelated thread someone was asked to enter a few commands so I tried them and the following was the output:

Code:

main@Amber:~$ ls /dev/scd*
/dev/scd0
main@Amber:~$ sudo mount /dev/cdrom /media/cdrom0

[code]...

An error occurred: Could not open location; you might not have permission to open the file. As far as I can tell I have the relevant CSS libraries installed I'm lost without being able to play CD's and DVD's on my system.

Ubuntu :: Hard Drive Space Mountable But Can't "use" It?

Jun 10, 2010

First the starter facts - I'm running 9.10 karmic. I have two Hard Drives, The one which used to hold my Windows OS has just been formatted. (By me) using GParted.

I have created the following partition in /dev/sda1 : a 186 GB space of file system ext2

So - no more Windows. Which is good.

All my old Windows files are on sda2, along with my Linux OS

When I click on "places", I can see my new drive space listed as "stl" which is the label I gave it.

I can mount (click and open) it, and there is a label there showing "lost and found"

When I try to save anything to this drive, or drag anything from the sda2 into it, I get the message that I don't have permission to do so.

I gather it's something to do with being root, or such like.

I've installed PYSDM but I think I was doing more harm than good when I tried to use it. Likewise the changes I made with Disk Utility simply resulted in me having to re-format the partition again.

All I need to do is be able to write and read from this device. Being simple I thought it would just plug and play.

Ubuntu :: 10.04 Installations On Sony Vaio CW

Jun 9, 2010

I've been trying to install Ubuntu 64bit on Sony Vaio CW and the Screen is 14 inch when I boot from CD it seems to work normal but after i select "Try Ubuntu without installing" or "Install Ubuntu" then the screen goes black like nothing happening but the CD runs for while then stop. Again I reboot to try again this time I press F6 then select "nomodeset" and it boots fine I was happy though, after installation success when I boot again WTF it goes black again and then I reboot and press "E" during the options that showing to select OS then I remove "Quit Splash".

I guess then I add "nomodeset" and control+X to boot, it works fine. So when I log in and of course I activate the Nvidia Graphic Driver then I reboot and WTF again the screen was out sync or something like the the screen didn't show properly. The Application menu normally is on the upper left of the screen but this time it was on the center of screen and the Shut down button came to the left side and i have to move the mouse cursor to the right and then it would appear on the left just like the resolution is to big for the screen.

Ubuntu :: Sony DVD RW - No Such Thing As Blank Disc?

Jan 3, 2010

I'm running ubuntu 9.10 and I'm having difficulty with my Sony DRU-540a & burning CDs. No matter what, every disc I put in is unwritable. In Brassaro it says:
There is No Recordable Disc Inserted
So I tried Nero & that also said there was no recordable disc. I know these discs are blank, I just bought them yesterday. They're the same type of disc I used before switching permanently to ubuntu. When trying to play an audio cd with VLC I get the following error:
Your input can't be opened:
VLC is unable to open the MRL 'cdda:///dev/sr0'. Check the log for details.
I installed ubuntu with this drive, why can't ubuntu read it?

Ubuntu Multimedia :: 9.1 Video With Sony KDL-40V5100?

Jan 13, 2010

I just bought a new TV and I'm trying to use my ubuntu box as a media server. I've included my specs below. Ubuntu recognizes the TV fine and the resolution is automatically set to 1920x1080 according to the display prefs which is native to the TV. I can see the desktop but it extends beyond the borders of my TV, which makes me think that somehow the resolution isn't set properly. I can't see my top or bottom task bar at all

Furthermore, the image is quite messed up. It's hard to explain, but text doesn't appear properly, nor do any icons etc on the desktop, they're somewhat pixellated. What's even more confusing is that movies themselves seem to play fine. I've downloaded some 720p mkv's and they play great, so it's just the desktop itself that is messed. I've installed the NVidia driver manually from their site and it's the latest 173.14.22.

Ubuntu :: Charging Sony Ericsson Phone Via Usb?

Feb 15, 2010

I didn't know that charging via usb for my sony ericsson mobile, w880i actually needs the SE PC Suite to be installed, cos, I used to charge it via usb cable, as mentioned, on my workstation, which is window based, it's kinda insignificant to me that the software has to be installed first.

However, I'm currently on the move, with my newly installed "netbook", I installed Ubuntu 9.10 on my twinhead efio 121A (which is good, no compatibility issue) and now, I just figured that, SE PC Suite does not have any linux version, but my mobile is already out of battery, and I desperately need to charge it,

I did run a lsusb, it doesn't seem to detect the phone, neither as usb storage, or as a phone, cos, I saw other people lsusb output, it's an item with "sony ericsson", but my output does not have such item. However, when I plug in the usb cable, it did prompt to ask me to choose between "file transfer" or "phone mode".

Ubuntu :: Sony Vaio VGN / Screen Is Too Bright

May 2, 2010

I have a Sony Vaio VGN-FZ340E. I installed Ubuntu about 6 months ago and had a problem-free time with it. I then got busy with other stuff (house work, etc.) and hadn't worked on Ubuntu for about a month. Now I switch on my Vaio with Ubuntu and I find the screen is just too bright.Since 10.04 was just coming up, I thought this would be fixed when I update. I updated, but the screen is still too bright.

I searched the forum for answers and found only some pretty old threads which were about the Fn key combos (which, obviously, doesn't work), spicctrl, etc.So I followed the instructions here. I did just what Step 1: Checking for Module says, but Terminal just doesn't give any output.
