Ubuntu :: USB Write Protected?

ive tried my hand and failed. My friend was using my computer nad he didnt safely remove his USB MP3 and now it is write protected. Ive tried windows diskpart (nothing), ive tried fsck ("disk maybe in use?"), i tried to format(write protected)ive tried otehr USB slots and other computers. This has happened to me sooo many times and i can never find a damn thing about it, can some one tell me how to fix this??? There has to be a simple fix as it is such a simple issue, an issue any one who has used windows for 90% of their computing history could make

I have a flash drive that is write protected and in RAW format(so not formatted). I've tried everything I can find to make it usable again in Windows but I ran out of options. I quickly found about the Gnome Partition Editor, but when I try to start it, it gets an icon in the taskbar that says "Starting GParted" and then it closes. Is some other way I can format my flash drive or do I need to find out why gparted isn't running?

I used dual booting with Windows Xp and Ubuntu 10.04. Because errors, I reinstall Windows and then I could not enter GRUB, and Ubuntu partition disappear. I tried to reinstall ubuntu using live CD but I could not detect last ubuntu partitions. After I installed fresh Ubuntu on new partition, I got error message like this:
Unable to mount floppy0 Mount: block device /dev/fd0 is write protected, mounting read-only Mount: could not determine the file system type, and none was specified

I can browse the iso image easily enough with a loopback mount, but when it comes to mounting the actual CD (which I did first), I get:

I burned it with K3B and it gets the same result trying to mount it. K3B seems to know that the image is an iso9660 and is able to display the various 9660 id fields just fine. It just won't mount.

I have this project for my operating systems class and I have put together the basic flow chart to aid me in writing the program. I know how to use pipes as a buffer to hold info. I know how to create a binary semaphore. But what I dont know is this:
How to "use a delay adjustment parameter K in the critical section to adjust the speed of the display process to show that without semaphore protection the displayed contents of the buffer are randomly interleaved."
First off, I am definitely not asking anyone to give me the solution. But I do need some guidance. So I figure there will be an if statement with two options:
1. If true, use semaphore protection to enter/exit critical section
2. If false, no semaphore protection -- this is where the contents of the buffer should be interleaved.
Now does that mean that as each child process enters the non-protected critical section, it should "sleep" for a randomized time? I mean, will this allow my output to be interleaved?
So lets say my command line looks like this:
what happens to the 100? Is it randomized using rand and srand and passed as a parameter to sleep() inside the critcal section?

When I ls -l /etc/passwd, -rw-r--r-- 1 root root /etc/passwd When I login as myself, and rm /etc/passwd, it asks: rm: remove write-protected file '/etc/passwd'? If I say yes, will it actually delete the passwd file?

I am trying to copy a (custom XML) file to a protected folder (namely /usr/share/games/FlightGear/Protocol) for data Input/Output.I tried copying and pasting the folders and it doesn't work. I realized that it is because only root user has the permission to do modification.So, I tried using "sudo cp" to copy the file. I just purchased an AirLink101 AR670W wireless router and it works just fine, states on the box that it works for all Microsoft Windows, Mac and Linux, but cannot get the CD to work, it comes up with a box that states cannot find the path in Archive manager. Without this cd I cannot use the software to put on WPS wifi protected set up, or the Nat+Spi firewall.I checked the manufacturers website and all it states is how tose the software in MS Windows. I have the latest version of Ubuntu which I think is 11.04

i have 2 users on my login window.one of them is password protected, the other is just a single click to login.
1) how can i get the password protected user to disappear but show up under certain circumstances. like, some soft of hidden key combination or the like?
Getting this done isint as important as the second part though
2) when a user logs in, what happens? What file gets executed to start the login processes? I want to know because i would like to make one of the users a guest account that removes all changes upon logoff.

I want to listen to my iPod Touch 4g using Banshee, connecting is not a problem, my problem is that all the songs are protected so when one song is done it just stays there idle it doesn't play any other songs. Is there a way to unprotect them so I can listen to them w/o worrying about it turning idle?

I switched from Windows XP to Ubuntu, I zipped a large number of important files, giving them a CIA-grade password. Is there a WinZip clone available for Ubuntu that will enable me to open those password-protected files? Or can I only do the unzipping on another Windows machine?

I created a password-protected .doc file in Windows yesterday using the latest version of OpenOffice (3.2.1)Opening the file worked perfectly; double-clicked the file, OpenOffice popped up and prompted me for the password, then it let me edit the document as usual.Tried it on another computer with Microsoft Word; worked perfectly as wellFor some reason though, it won't work in Ubuntu (10.10). I'll double-click the file, it'll open with OpenOffice and prompt me for the password, but once it opens it's in "Read Only" mode.I tried it on another Windows computer, just to see if it would work, and it did.I right-clicked the .doc file and looked at the permissions: (picture edited for privacy)Every time I tried changing it from "Read-only" to "Read and write" it automatically (and immediately) switched back to "Read-only"

really need to display a full screen webpage with firefox (with flash animations, etc) with some password protection against navigating away, closing firefox, etc.I am thinking that a good solution would be to set up gnome screensaver to display the webpage as it already has the password protection stuff. Anyway, I investigated this idea for a while and is seems that it will not work...As I want to have flash animations onto that page, a solution that captures the screen and passes the picture to gnome is also not suitable.

This is sort of a weird question.'m helping an agency develop a Microsoft Access database. They use windows and I use Fedora. I can run Access in Crossover Office if I don't get too fancy.I've sent what I've done to them for their review and comments and somehow it has become password protected. I've checked the Access settings and their is no password set from Access. I've tried a chmod666 on the file and sent it to him again and he says it is still calling for a password

I have an 4 GB USB Drive that bugs me. When I insert it, the fallowing device maps are created in /dev.
1: sdb
2: sdb1
3: sr0
The sr0 is registered as an Optical Disk that I can't remove for some reason. I have tried providing sdb with an new empty partition table, but the sr0 partition does not get removed by this. I think it's something created by some Live Linux CD I may have put on the disk at some point. The label is named "U3 System" and it contains the files "LaunchPad.zip" and "LaunchU3.exe".
