I'm trying to put / get files a machine running a tftp server but with no success .The client machine is behind a firewall and this is cause of the problem as when the firewall is disabled I can transfer files.I've tried to add this rule but the firewall still blocks the transfer.

I am trying to transfer a file using tftp between two PC's. I have installed tftp-server, tftp, xinetd on both PC's. I am unable to transfer the file between the two systems. although the self transfer is working on both the system. I am getting the error "Transfer timed out"

I Installed a game server on my ubuntu desktop which is on port 7777. I can join the gameserver without any problems on my local network but when I'm trying to join using my external IP address its not working.
This is what I did:I Forwarded my port inside my router but it still didn't work.

I Tried portforwarding with an other machine (iMac) and it's working there

2. Is A WLAN card that I use to connect my Ubuntu PC to our network.
I'm getting my first web server configured, and as per a tutorial I found, I used shorewall. However, it blocks all internet access (even from apt) to my server! Does anyone know a decent firewall program or a good guide on configuring shorewall?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a fresh install of SuSE 11.2. I have installed Communigate Pro (Email server) and Webmin. From my workstation (on the same LAN), I can access the web interfaces for both CGP and Webmin right after the server boots up. But after about 10 minutes or so, I can no longer access either web interface. The server itself still functions normally. I can get on the internet with the server, and I can control Webmin via localhost:10000.
The only thing that allows me to connect to it from my workstation again is to either restart the server, or go into "Network > Linux Firewall" and click "Apply Configuration". What's going on that makes my remote access stop working?

All traffic is allowed for port 69 udp in both directions. I do get a dhcp address. I see that both on the server and the client it gets an IP. After that I get this message in the logs:

Question (and Google results aren't making this clear): Ubuntu has both iptables & ip6tables installed. 1. If I set a rule in iptables, does that rule also apply to ipv6, or just ipv4?
2. If "no" to above, then it would be prudent to *also* set ip6tables rules as well if I want to maintain an active firewall, correct?
3. Does ip6tables rules have the same syntax and behavior (more or less) to iptables rules - i.e. can I just copy my iptables rules & change "iptables" to "ip6tables"?
4. Any gotchas or issues that I should be aware of?
I suspect this is an initial configuration bug. All firewall logs seem to be going to all
three files. That causes a lot of clutter in the log files, and makes it difficult to see whether there are any serious problems being logged.
I am learning to setup firewall in my home for that i have selected four system(sys1,sys2....sys4) for testing .I have configured sys2 to act as a firewall with two NIC. sys3 and sys4 are inside the firewall . sys1 is not connected to firewall for testing purpose.
the IP assignments are follows :
sys1 : ( fedora, not connected to firewall i am thinking, But i am not sure )
IP : 192.168.2.1 ,
gateway : blank
dns1 : blank
dns2 : blank
sys2 firewall ,IPTABLES )

what happened is that sys1(not connected to firewall) can ssh to sys4(connected,inside firewall),since the rules are written not to ssh form sys1 to sys4..
then I came to know whatever the request I give, It directly goes as sys1 --> sys4. Not as sys1-----> sys2(firewall)---> sys4 .and the firewall is not filtering and processing anything for both inbound and outbound (i think it's my mistake some where). the requests are directly going inside without firewall.
Having a bit of a issue with Debian Squeeze and transferring files to the Sony PSP..Hook up PSP to USB port and Debian mounts it..I go to drag a 125 meg mp4 to video folder..Copy windows takes about 10 seconds to transfer it..Exit USB mode and there is no video there. Go back into USB mode and look at video folder on the PSP memory stick and there is no video..It vanished. From another after copy progress closed I right clicked PSP and unmounted it..
It error-ed saying device was busy and could not unmount..Looking at light on PSP i see memory stick is still being written to..i wait for light to stop flashing..About a minute or so..Then am able to unmount it..Go to PSP video and theres the video ready to be watched. Debian isnt accurately showing the copy progress...Its showing complete when it isnt..I have to watch the light on PSP to know when it is truly finished.
I'm trying to build firewall on Debian with 'Firewall Builder'. But it won't let me compile and run unless one interface is set as management. There are two interfaces on my computer: 'eth0' and 'lo'
I don't want to be able to configure firewall remotely, so could I use 'lo' as 'management interface'?

View 2 Replies View Relatedusing Slackware 13.0, and whenever i trasfer my files to USB, like copy or cut and paste, it will show as if file transfered in an instant,like click paste and poof.the whole 1 gig file transferred in one second, and it wont show dialog box of transfer process, and then i have to predict some minutes and wait (till the transfer actually finishes, i have to usually see my USB's transfer indicator light), if i plug out before or my prediction goes wrong, i end up with corrupted files. This aint related to window manager, as same is case for KDE and XFCE tried thunar, konqueror, midnight commander, all of em resulted with same problem.

The problem I have is that I need to boot in an environment that has to be routed through a router that can't forward NFS (the protocol doesn't use a standard port) I found that the Ubuntu based Clonezilla Live CD has a option like "fetch tftp://server/folder/filesystem.squashfs" I can borrow the kernel and initrd and it works, but how do I add this feature myself? Is there a package I need to install or a initrd option I need to add?

Well, I'm trying to do is, my friend's HP-mini fails to boot to Windows, and BIOS also gives error-messages, the thing is that my friend has important data on his netbook, it has only one drive, no cd-rom, and it doesn't support USB-booting, so I was thinking if I get to access an Ubuntu, I will be able to backup his data and install Windows, I would use anything that would let me copy files.

I pretty much followed every step but commented out these two lines from the /etc/xinet.d/tftp.

Do we really need the lines if I am allowing any machine to connect? And I have only 1 network card. This is acting as a dedicated TFTP server.I ask as I get an error on the get and put commands as below:

However although it gives an error it DOES GET the file.The put command however does NOT put the file. I have nobody / nogroup setup for the directory permissions as well.

In Jaunty (9.04) I've setup a small (eleven-terminal) ltsp network at the local school. It handled around 6600 working hours with ease.
Now I've upgrade the server to Karmic Koala (9.10) and it just stopped working.
1) The clients have PXE NICs
2) They get the proper IPs from the DHCP server and respond appropriately to changes in the DHCP configuration files.
3) DHCP server also points the clients to
filename=/ltsp/i386/pxelinux.0
4) When the clients try to download the pxelinux.0 over tftp they just timeout
5) /etc/inetd.conf has an entry like
tftp dgram udp wait root /usr/sbin/in.tftpd /usr/sbin/in.tftpd -s /var/lib/tftpboot
6) The file /var/lib/tftpboot/ltsp/i386/pxelinux.0 exists on the server
I'm lost at all these configuration files and protocols.
I have checked several tutorial sites, to no avail. I can't seem to get Winpe 3.0 to boot over tftpd/pxe.Has anyone successful done this using Ubuntu 9.10?, or am I just wasting my time trying.

I have it working fine when tftp and dhcp are installed on the same server but when trying to forward to a remote tftp it does not work. Dnsmasq insist on giving its local ip.I have added to config:dhcp-boot=pxelinux.0,pxetest2,192.168.0.130and I tried with and without the original hcp-boot=/var/lib/tftpboot/pxelinux.0Not much on this topic on the google nor on the dnsmasq homepage.

And like i didnt get any errors or anything when typing the commands on the terminal but basically every time i try to test it i never works sooo im not really sure how im suppose to do this. basically i have a tftp in one ip address. And with another system with a different ip address using the client tftp ipaddr(server) and i try to get foo and it never connects and I tried a ping and they ping together just fine soo im just not sure if the tftp server is even on
