Ubuntu :: Translucent Menu Bar 11.04 Similar To That Of W7 Or Mac?
Jul 3, 2011
I have ccsm installed if that helps at all, and am running Ubuntu 11.04 x64.All I want in the menu bar (The whole top bar) to be translucent, similar to that of W7 or Mac.
thats is, how can i use a translucent qtcurve theme on kubuntu 10.10 rc? qtcurve version > 1.5 therefore it should be compatible. i only get opaque gray where the transparency should be.
theme [URL].. kwin enabled nvidia 9400m (nvidia driver not nouveau)
I'm trying to get to the config page where I once enabled wobbly windows and translucent borders. For the life of me, I can't seem to find it. I would think it to be in the desktop settings and associated with the qt4 engine somewhere, but it continues to evade me. How did I arrive at that config page??
Can anybody tell me if there is a game similar to WOW for ubuntu 9.10? if there is I would like the source code so i can download it from the terminal.
Just a quick question as I re-familiarize myself with apt-get again. So far, have had no luck finding what I am trying to do (back to the man page) Basically, after doing a 'apt-get update' command, was it possible to see what packages have newer versions and can be upgraded?
For example, I am working with a system that has BASE 1.4.3 installed, and I know there is a newer version out (1.4.4), but want to make sure that is in the repository. Does apt-get have something similar to portmaster in FreeBSD? Where it tells you what version you have installed, and what version is available to download?
Is there any package similar to 'HOTSPOT SHIELD' ? in ubuntu, I used Hotspot in windows to unblock some sites, now with Ubuntu I am badly missing those sites.
I would like the ability to sync my phone with my Ubuntu machine in a similar manner to that of the Nokia PC Suite in Windows. Anyone have any suggestions WRT Linux applications (more specifically Ubuntu, but I am not really that picky) that mimic the functionality of Nokia PC Suite (even partially)? It doesn't need to be specific to Nokia either, any brand of phone is fine as I haven't made my mind up as to what brand I am interested in.
Is there some program out for linux that is similar to ndiswrapper, in the sense that it can use Windows drivers for printers? As of right now, printing has been one of those issues I've had in linux for years, but I was lucky enough to have a supported printer. On other machines, including family members, they are not so lucky enough to have a supported printer.
Is it possible to have command line completion similar to 4nt? In Terminal you have to type most of the name before it will complete for you, otherwise it just displays a list of names. Are you supposed to read from there and copy filenames? And the upper/lower case stuff is really ugly. Is there a smart command line utility that can build the entire path for you, and recall history based on a partial string?
I am not sure what to google on this noob question. In windows, i have c: drive and can create folders where i can place my files or install software to.So in ubuntu, where should have my own files placed to? say software like tomcat and liferay or custom folder.
Possible Duplicate: Torrent client for Ubuntu similar to uTorrent What is a good bittorent client for Linux? So far I used uTorrent on Windows, but recently I moved to Fedora and I saw that uTorrent doesn't support Linux.
My Friend and I have a similar spec PC apart from mine has 4GB DDR2 his 2GB DDR2 and Mine quad core 2.3Ghz and his Dual core 2.3Ghz.... Both on a fresh 10.04 install with Grub2
Bootchart beats mine by about 10sec why?[Files Attached]
I saw something interesting online somewhere and failed to bookmark it and is not in my history (different install in the past) Now I can't find it. It told of a way to make a cd or dvd with the deb packages of your choice, then you could install a fresh copy of ubuntu, switch to that cd, activate it, and a while later, voila, all your software is installed. No need to pick and hunt and wear your mouse finger out in synaptic or wait on downloads.
Can someone teach me how or direct me to the method in question? It was a fairly automated process, I don't remember it requiring me to make a script or anything technical, just choose the software somehow and tell it to burn the cd. Anything similar to this would be acceptable. I just want to load a dvd or two up with software and run them after I install Ubuntu.
I know I can just save the deb files manually to a cd or other backup medium and click them one at a time, but the problem there is that if I want to have gparted for example, I also have to remember to get dmraid, kpartx, etc. and manually install them too. Even this is not an issue as long as there is no certain order of installing those packages, if that ALWAYS is the case.
I don't want to make a custom ubuntu install cd with said software because I'm not certain I can do this and have an "alt" cd which is what I want to use to install ubuntu, or can I? (I do manual partitioning with encryption, or what if it all won't fit on a single cd) I want something "fresher" and more virginal than a full system backup/restore.
What app/util for Ubuntu Server 10.10 would allow me to browse and download data stored on the server via a website interface similar to Windows home server?
I have a HP laptop, and recently I configured the Remote Control to control the sound, and make a funny joke when a curious friend press the Power button in the remote control. To make this work, I want to make a shell script that calls a dialog, not a console dialog, but a GTK dialog. Then I tried to install the package "xdialog", that is no longer present on the official repositories, and I tried to find a similar package, but no success. What comes closest is "dialog", but this shows only a console dialog.
I am new to ubuntu. So far I really like it. However I am just wondering, is there a way to check and see how much ram and processor you are using similar to Task Manager in Windows?
I'm not a complete newbie in Linux, but I was working some years solely with Windows. But some weeks ago I remembered my old love and installed Ubuntu Natty 64 bit. Last night I installed also Oracle 11gR2 64 and got it finally running after some fights with missing packets and unexpectedly placed libs. (Unexpected by Oracle installer). Nevertheless; Oracle is running now.Ok so far. This is the good news. The bad news: In one of these fights I was in a terminal-session and accidentally entered sudo rm -r /usr/share/doc while I wanted to delete /usr/share/doc/libstdc++5. I wondered why this takes so long time and stopped it as I saw what I did. But too late of course, there are many subdirectories missing. My question now: Is there a way using apt-get, dpkg or similar to rebuild these subdirectories in /usr/share/doc?Natty is still running fine for now. But what happens if there are updates or new packets?
Are there any Proxy applications for Ubuntu 10.4+ that are similar to Proxifier/ProxyCap? I need to be able to use SOCKS5 and have a Proxification Rules area where I can choose which applications the proxy works with.
