What happened to KPDF?I have a nifty installation of Ubuntu 10.04 LTS / Gnome 2.30.2 running under VirtualBox. Everything is going quite well.BUT, in Synaptic I can't seem to locate the PDF reader KPDF? I have all the default repositories working and have plenty of other programs.Is KPDF still available in Ubuntu 10.04 / Gnome 2.30.2? Or has KPDF been superseded, or renamed, or...?

When I opened the file that had the apparent prolem < var/lib/apt/lists/mirror.ox.ac.uk_sites_archive.ubuntu.com_ubuntu_dists_jaunty_restricted_binary-i386_Packages > it transpired it actually contained the html page for the router ?? which seemed wierd to me.However I have recently I changed to a new ISPSo after a bit of a search, nothing explicity had my problem, and I was a bit stumped. Then I suddenly had a thought, after reading someone else how did something similar.... I then did the following....

i installed "display calibrator" from the distros and afterwards i cant find it under Applications (graphics/ sound&audio/system tools...), so i went to System > Preferences > Main Menu and it isnt listed anywhere.

I was running kpdf and clicked Full Screen from within the kpdf window, I think in the View menu. Now I don't know how to regain control of the screen. I mean the menu bar is no longer present. Each time I run it, it is in full screen mode. I pressed F1 and read the section on the View menu. But it doesn't say anything about full screen.

I had Xdialog installed on a Jaunty machine. According to Synaptic, it comes from the section "Miscellaneous - Graphical (Universe)". I did a fresh installation of Lucid 10.04. But, Synaptic doesn't find Xdialog. I tried downloading the RPM build from the website, but alien seems unable to correctly convert it. I know that we're "supposed" to use zenity, but zenity doesn't have some of the features that I need.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI just upgraded my computer to Ubuntu 10.04 Lucid. Whenever I open Synaptic Package Manager it opens normally. If I type into the "Quick search" box, when I try to type in a word as soon as I type the second letter Synaptic immediately closes. However, if I click on the full "Search" button, this function works as it should. I just can't use Quick Search. Synaptic closes every time.
I uninstalled synaptic from a terminal by typing [CODE] apt-get remove synaptic. Then I reinstalled using [CODE] apt-get install synaptic. Reinstalling did not fix the problem. Does anyone have an idea how to fix this?
I run Ubuntu 10.04 and everything worked fine until I downloaded bunch of games and programs using synaptic and it stopped working. When I try to install anything it tells me to check my internet connetction which i know works just fine, it says that cannot connect to [my_ip]:8080 and I manually opened the port and nothing, i disabled the firewall and have no proxy running, it also gives me the info that connection(111:refused) What do I do?

On Ubuntu 10.04, Synaptic indicates that current version {10.0.32.18-1(now) for AdobeFlash plugin} is latest but websites appear to indicate that latest version is 10.0.45-1. Synaptic Upgrade button is grayed and I am stuck! All came about by accessing following site: [URL]... Had to revert to Firefox on XP (!) to see diagram. Is there a more current (latest) version for Firefox under Ubuntu 10.04 and if so, how do I go about installing it? One day, my synaptic and update manager is working fine and the next day, I open one of them and get a error window that doesn't say anything (no details on the error). So, i tried the terminal, sudo apt-get update, and this message shows:

Installed netbeans via synaptic but when I click 'NetBeans' it doesn't open... no error nothing
Tried running 'netbeans' in terminal and it's the same!
When I get to the login screen on my computer (with ubuntu-desktop, kubuntu-desktop, and xubuntu-desktop installed on Ubuntu), Gnome isn't in the list of desktop environments!
My temporary solution:
I have Openbox/Gnome. I also have an icon in my panel that opens "compiz --replace" so I can still use the regular WM with compiz.
Why my temporary solution isn't good enough:
It's annoying to have to have an extra icon in my panel, and to have to press it at login. Also, I don't get the Compiz splash screen when I login. Overall it's just not as impressive.
Is there any way to get Gnome back in the menu?
While trying to install a package using gpk-application ("Add/Remove Software" under System Tools), I accidentally checked the "Do not show this message again" checkbox, and now gpk-application does not list the package dependencies anymore.
I tried to go back to listing the dependencies, however, I could not find a way to do it. How do I revert to the default behavior, i.e., having gpk-application listing the dependencies again?
i have a usb pen (kingstone 8 gb) the sistem does not recognize it, maybe due to the fact i have not safely removed it the last time. i do fdisk -l but it does not appear in the list in /dev no trace of it.

I'm successfully connecting to my Vista desktop via my laptop running MM;I can view my shares but not all my data. All top level shares seem to be visible, it's when I go deeper that I notice not everything is showing up. The folders are accessible if I type the full path, and then again I have the same issue once I'm inside that folder where not all data is visible.
In Nautilus setting: Edit>Pref>Preview Tab.I set preview for all files under 4GB which is the upper limit I can set.This made more files visible but not everything.I attempted to divide the directories in order to halve the size of the folders, this helped but not completely. The directories contain movie and picture files. The picture files are easier to divide more equitably between folders, but the movies being so large, managing folders sizes in that way doesn't help. I really don't want to divide my files according to this problem anyway. Sorting does not affect which folders and files are shown. Nothing is hidden, options to show hidden files on amd off, no help.
I get the following error message when I try to access all of the sections in Add/Remove Sofware;

I've read the sticky post about getting my wireless to work. Here's what I know:
Wireless LAN doesn't show up in my hardware list. But the wireless usb adapter I have (D-Link DWA-160) does show up under USB devices, with the following UDI info:

When I look at the boot.msg log I see nothing about a firmware failing to load. Does that mean I already have it?
When I try the /usr/sbin/iwconfig command I get:

When I try the /usr/sbin/iwlist scan command I get:
lo Interface doesn't support scanning.
eth0 Interface doesn't support scanning.
There's a page (ar9170 - Linux Wireless) where I can supposedly download the ar9170.fw firmware that supports this device. But when I try to download it it doesn't show up in the /lib/firmware directory and I don't know why.
The system sees the USB adapter, but it doesn't appear to be working. Do I need the firmware? And if so, how do I download it-

Now, I want to install 10.10 from the beginning without losing the data in my current partitions but when I run the Maverick installer it recognize my disk as a whole with no partitions. From another posts, I suspect that the problem is in the partition list because it seems to be a duplicate partition but don't know how to fix it. This is the fdisk output:

I am using Open office 3.2 with Ubuntu 10.10. Trying to get it set up to print out the Christmas address labels. To register the data source its 'FILE'> 'WIZARDS' then' ADDRESS DATA SOURCE.' But OO doesn't show the 'ADDRESS DATA SOURCE' at the bottom of the list, so I am stuck. Apart from that, I have had no problems with ubuntu and its working well.

View 14 Replies View RelatedI have two wifi routers. If I stand next to the main one with my laptop I can connect and access the internet no problem. The other router is in my office, and the bridging is messed up, so while I see the essid and bssid using 'iwlist scanning' and nm-tool, I can't connect to it.
Now, my main router's signal still reaches to my office, just not as strong as the borked router in my office. I need to be able to choose which wifi network to connect to without wasting time walking between rooms. I added entries for both in network-manager, but it doesn't show them in the list when I left click the tray icon! How the do I connect to the network I want?
