I have Ubuntu 9.04. I've installed Skype on it, and I have pidgin 2.5.5. I downloaded and installed the skype4pidgin plugin, and I've restarted Pidgin, I've restarted Skype, I've restarted the entire computer, and still Skype is not appearing in the available Accounts Type list when I go to add a new account.

After installing the plugin I opened pidgin but was unable to do anything with it. I later understood the reason -- namely, that a condition for this plugin to work was that skype had to be installed and running on my system. So i installed skype (but only after having added the plugin).
In any case, now my pidgin will not start. When I try to start the program, the little pidgin window flashes briefly on the screen and then disappears. Having absolutely no experience with linux systems I don't even know where to start looking for the problem. I thought of uninstalling and reinstalling pidgin, but I get a warning that this program shares vital components with other programs, so I dare not...
I have been an OpenSuse 11.2 user since the past 8 months. Recently I had a issue with the operating system and therefore had to re-install the OS again. However, since the fresh install, I have not been able to capture any sound from my laptop's microphone. This is weird because it used to work fine with OpenSuse 11.2 before I had to re-install the same OS again. Additionally I can assure that there are no issues with the hardware since it works fine with Windows 7. I have tried almost everything, but in vain.

I go to Tools > Plugins and look through the list, but OTR isn't there!

I downloaded the binairy as a shared dll (.so) and copied it to the pidgin root folder (/usr/lib/pidgin/)... I was kinda hoping that would be sufficient, but (after restarting Pidgin) I still don't see the new plugin in the plugins-list. What am I doing wrong, or what should I do next?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI am using the Skype-Pidgin integration on Lucid. Calls work fine and I can send messages from Pidgin. But incoming messages don't get through to Pidgin -- instead I get an alert from Skype and I have to open up the Skype conversation window to see them.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have installed flash-plugin from rpmforge, video on flash sites works, but audio doesn't. Similarly neither the audio or mic works in skype. The soundcard is definitely recognised and I can change the levels using alsamixer. Furthermore, sound works in mplayer. Using CentOS 5.3 64bit fully up todate with rpmforge and adobe repositories enabled.

Pidgin was running beautifully with notify-osd until recently i've decided to try AWN-notification-daemon ... didn't like it, so simply disabled it .. now notify-osd is not working at all with pidgin... it works with other applications , but not pidgin..
the pidgin-libnotify plugin is checked and working.. I've reinstalled notify-osd and notify-osd icons package .. but still.
I have installed Pidgin in fedora 14 but it's not connecting any of the IM.

I had installed pidgin and whenever i try to Sign-in to mu yahoo-Id, its Shows that it is CONNECTING and nothing happens, i waited alot,but in vain, I had also edited this line to my " sudo gedit /etc/hosts" > "66.163.181.170 scs.msg.yahoo.com"

I've noticed that the pidgin musictracker plugin does not work with rhythmbox in Fedora 15. I tried using Audacious and it sets the "Now Listening" status correctly, but rhythmbox doesn't work anymore.

For what it is worth 2 hard drives have Kubuntu 8.04 and the 3rd has Mandriva Spring 2008. Tuesday was the last time I had used Pidgin and everything was fine. Wednesday when I booted the computer I noticed that the Pidgin icon in the sys tray looks broken. I click on it and it shows "Pidgin is available" "connecting" and that's it. The buddy list is empty. Went to my other Kubuntu hard drive, same thing, went to my Mandriva hard drive same thing. Installed Kopete on this hard drive and it shows no one available.
I did a search here before posting and found nothing.
I have been trying to get skype working on 10.04 x64. I succeeded last night by using a pulseaudio config file to stop autospawning, but this kills volume management on many other apps as well. I just wrote a quick skype startup script to kill pulseaudio when skype is opened, and replace it when skype is closed, but I would rather have an autospawning exception for skype only. Is there a way to tell pulse audio not to autospawn for skype related processes only?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm having trouble with some qt-based apps that did work previously but now do not. So far I've seen this with Skype, VLC and umbrello. Applications appear to execute but GUI never seems to initialise. CPU remains around 90%. I'm using an eeepc 1000H running ubuntu intrepid 8.10 with adam's kernel 2.6.27-8-eeepc. Any ideas on how I can debug this? As I mentioned these applications worked fine in the past, I'm guessing an update broke them.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI am using 8.04, Pulseaudio, Microsoft Lifechat USB headset and Skype on a Compaq 210. Pulse works fine for everything else. One day, it just stopped working for no apparent reason (only on the Skype mic) so I uninstalled and went back to ALSA (for a few reasons) but couldn't get that working either so now back to square one. When I boot Skype, all goes well, can place a test call, no errors. But on playback of the message it's pure fuzz, basically white noise, no sign of my voice. I've twiddled with just about every volume control and toggle I can find and then some, but nothing. Another interesting thing; Pulse is now NOT working unless I input 'pulseaudio -D' in a terminal after boot. Then it seems to be okay, 'cept the mic.
Strange as the mic works perfectly and crystal clear in Sound Recorder. No probs. So:
1/ How do I replace the recorded white noise in a Skype test call with my own mellifluous tones and;
2/ Where do I put 'pulseaudio -D' (what file) so it will be read and turn pulse on at boot?
Using Skype 2.1.0.47 (I know there is a newer version, .87 I think, but that was even more problematic). Another strange thing; the newer version (.87?) worked flawlessly for months before the mic just one day died (ONLY in Skype). As explained on my last thread; wife's uni/entertainment machine and me being the house computer dude, one of the reasons we use Linux is so I am not fixing Windows problems constantly. I only go near this machine when something goes pear-shaped so that is rarely. My wife doesn't tweak with her computer AT ALL.
Sound issues on this machine have been pretty much constant and I am really sick of it. I have two desktops running ALSA and Skype flawlessly with any USB headset AND they can ring incoming calls through the external speakers and you can take the call through the headset, something that is seemingly impossible for some reason in Pulse. Despite its bells and whistles, this is a serious oversight by Pulse developers in my opinion. (Unless I'm missing something and I've have searched for hours trying to fix THAT little mystery).
I type Chinese using ibus, but it dosen't seem to work at all with skype, is there anything I can do to get it working? Ibus isen't working for me in libre office either.

i'm having problems with the flash plugin. a lot of sites that use flash for buttons and things just won't work. this happens a lot with videos videos posted on blogs and such, although they seem to work, mostly but not always, on the actual videos website. i didn't have this problem with earlier versions of flash, is it possible to downgrade the version i'm using? using 10.04lts 64 bit. i installed flash via synaptic, flashplugin-installer 10.1.82.76
