Ubuntu :: Different X/Y Mouse Speed After Upgrade To 10.04?
May 12, 2010Just upgraded to 10.04 (x64) and found that the mouse speed for X plane is much faster than for Y plane. Tried looking in KDE mouse settings but didn't find any setting to change that. Mouse was fine before upgrade.
P.S. the "mouse" is actually a touchpad in HP Pavillion dv7.
Debian Configuration :: ZTE MF112 Modem Setup - Light Stays Permanently Red
Oct 1, 2010I recently got an upgrade from my mobile broadband provider (3 UK) that included a ZTE MF112 modem. I found that (unlike the Hauwei modem that preceeded it) this item did not work "out of the box". After a bit of googling around I decided that a good starting place would be to upgrade the OS on my laptop. I've been meaning to do this for a while anyway so have just installed Squeeze (the i386 version, on Thinkpad x61). I think it's now pretty close to working "out of the box" but annoyingly isn't quite there. I thought of getting a ZTE modem to work say that usb-modeswitch needs to be used to make it not load as a cdrom. However, it appears to load correctly without any alteration (in fact, adding the /etc/udev/rules.d/zte_eject.rules file I have found described appear to do the reverse and make it load as a storage device - at least an icon for it appears on screen).
lsusb correctly lists it as device 19d2:0031 and identifies the device as a ZTE MF636 (though it says MF112 on the package). Looking at the Network Connections tool there is an entry for 3 mobile that is, afaik, correctly configured. If I click on the network applet on the toolbar, there is a bit of contradiction: towards the top of the drop-down list it reports mobile broadband as not enabled, but further down under the "available" list is an entry for "3 internet". I haven't paid too much attention to the not enabled entry because it also reports the wired network as not managed, so maybe this is just a quirk of network manager. - I know you have to comment out eth0 entries in /etc/network/interfaces to have network manager deal with the interface in Squeeze. There are no entries for the mobile connection in the interfaces file.
If I click on the 3 internet entry the applet goes momentarily into trying to connect mode (the circling dot) but very quickly pops up a Disconnected box, and that's all that ever happens. I note that the light on the modem stays permanently red. On the old Huwei it started green but went blue, and I think I read something about it also changing colour on the ZTE. On the other hand, the Hauwei didn't show up on the network manager list until the light had turned blue, whereas this does seem to be there. It looks as if the problem is something fairly trivial since the device appears to be both recognised and (almost!) correctly configured. How to sort this.
Ubuntu :: Mouse X-speed On Dual Monitor?
Mar 6, 2010I'm using two monitors, they're virtually placed next to each other so the virtual screen resolution is (1024+1280) x 800px. Now my mouse speed on the x-axis is automatically set higher, which is good if you permanently switch between both monitors all the time. But I don't need it, so how do I turn it off? It's kinda annoying if you're used to your "normal" mouse speed.Y-axis speed is still fine. also, is there a way do display the gnome-do dock on the right handed monitor? it places itself always on the left monitor....I'm using Mint 8 which is Ubuntu 9.10 with gnome 2.28.1

Dec 4, 2010I'm currently running Ubuntu 10.10 on my HP laptop with an external monitor attached. I've been having the same issue since 9.04 and just now figured I should ask about it.When I have dual monitors set up (extended desktop) the mouse speed in the X direction seems to double. ie. assume the mouse usually moves 1 pixel at a time, it now moves 2. It seems to be functioning as usual in the Y direction, which makes the motion really weird and hard to use. I'm using a Wacom tablet for the mouse, but the same happens with my laptops touch pad. Anyone else experience this/know how to fix it?

Mar 24, 2011I have a HP Mini 311c that has an ALPS touchpad. Linux Mint detects it as a mouse and so when I try to increase the speed of the mouse, nothing actually happens. I've created a script which includes just the following code:

This is saves as startup-script.hl on my Desktop. I then go into Startup Applications and add the script in there. But when I reboot my Netbook the mouse is moving at its default slow speed. I've ensured the script file is allowed to execute (right click > properties > permissions) and have also tried copying it to the init.d folder with no luck.
One thing I have noticed though is that straight after I login to Mint the mouse cursor does move at the speed I want, but after a few seconds reverts back to the slow speed.

Jun 21, 2011I just installed Ubuntu 11.04 and I have a Logitech MX518 mouse. I see that the Logitech SetPoint software is only for Windows, but I am not able to get the exact mouse behavior that I want through the Mouse settings in Ubuntu.
I want acceleration disabled, so I put the slider all the way to the left for acceleration. I then move the slider for mouse sensitivity, but I didn't notice a change in cursor speed. How can I modify my mouse to not use acceleration but adjust the speed of the cursor? Is there a special app I can install for this?

I tried both the recent version and the older one, both did the same thing, I really wanna get my Compiz effects back. is there a way to get this working? I will do anything you ask if it solves the problem...

These properties are shown by xinput list-props and documented as properties in the evdev Xorg input driver man page.
My questions is - where can I configure or save these settings so I don't have to ever enter again? On older versions of Ubuntu for serial touchscreens I'd add to xorg.conf, but that seems to be depreciated and these are listed as properties instead of options.

May 18, 2010I've just set up dual boot Win 7 with openSUSE 11.2 but unfortunately I have run into a couple of problems. One of them is that I cannot set up my Bluetooth mouse, which works under windows.
I am typing this from Windows right now (wireless is not working either) so I cannot reproduce the exact steps but anyways, when I try to add a new Bluetooth device it first finds my mouse, and keeps searching, and then removes the mouse from the list, and keeps searching, then it finds it again, ... and it goes endlessly. If I select mouse on the list and click forward on the next screen I get an error saying that the mouse was not set up.

Mar 23, 2011Right now, I need to use a dual-monitor setup. Be it for my casual desktop usage, or to my projects and programs presentations with a slideshow. The latter is critical and that's why I'm here.So, after some Intel Drivers update, some programs started to work nicely, faster and beautifully. But it corrupted my Dual-Monitor Setup. I don't know what to say, I'm totally desperate. I had to show one of my programs to my teacher using a projector, but with the dual monitor corruption, I called in sick today. I need to use the netbook screen to make changes on the program and the second monitor/projector to show the program working.

Jul 23, 2011Ubuntu 64bit. The sound system works and plays noises correctly when I test the speakers in sound preferances. The internet BBCi player(Radio) plays sound correctly. Banshee & Rhythmbox try to play music files at double, or more, speed with no sound output. Spotify Linux version also tries to playback at double speed with no sound output. Media Player attempts to play music files at high speed. Media player plays the Video and audio tracks at high speed. VLC Will play the video at normal speed but with no audio.

I've installed 2 internet browsers(firefox,opera) using the directions from Slackbuilds.org and there is also konqueror pre-installed. Moreover I installed Wicd network manager.
I can browse some pages e.g. ..... with firefox very slowly but NEVER facebook. I can browse almost any page, even facebook, with OPERA but very very slowly. The same goes with konqueror... Wicd shows that i am always connected with my WPA wireless network

Ubuntu :: Mouse Pointer Points With The Bottom Of The Mouse And Not The Upper Tip Of The Point
Oct 5, 2010I just installed Ubuntu 10.10 on my HP Pavilion a320n computer with a ps2 mouse and the mouse pointer points with the bottom of the mouse and not the upper tip of the point. It does the same thing with Ubuntu 10.04.1. In Windows 7 and XP the mouse is normal. I don't know how I could adjust it or is this just a bug in the OS?
