I am trying to set up my school e-mail in evolution. They use exchange 2007. When I set it up on my iPod touch, it wouldn't work unless I put in my exchange domain. Where would I put that in evolution?
View 1 RepliesI had decided to give Ubuntu a go on my work notebook. At work we use Exchange 2003 (at the moment) for email. I had open Evolution and tried to configure it. I got the welcome screen (wizzard), I clicked Forward and then I skipped Restore from backup (since this is a new install) and clicked Forward. It asked for identity and I gave the details (as shown in the first screenshot) then hit Forward and made the necesary settings as shown in the second screenshot. Then I click Authenticate and it asks for my exchange password. i type it and then it gives me the error "Could not locate server.". I am sure the server name is correct and I am sure it resolves correctly (tried it with firefox and works just fine). I also tried username as follows:
user@DOMAIN.RO
DOMAINuser
I 've got an hotmail (live-mail) account, that I'm using on my iPod with Microsoft Exchange. This is really working fine, so I was very happy when I read, that you can use this feature with Evolution Mail.
Now my Problem is, that the Settings I use on my iPod won't work with Evolution.
I think the Problem is the OWA URL cause whatever I do it can't connect to this Server.
I'll give you the Settings, that work on my iPod:

Does anybody know the OWA URL of the Hotmail-Server or does every Account have one of it's own?
I've got an Ubuntu 10.04 system running Evolution, and I'm trying to integrate it with a slightly older Exchange server. I got the basics all working, email, calendaring, etc. The trouble I'm having is that it crashes pretty frequently, and even using the DavMail tool doesn't help. DavMail just ends up crashing instead!
It seems to me that there is some piece of integration that is broken, or just not set up right. Has anyone seen this? Where it "works", but is very unstable? We've got a few people at my office with this issue on a couple different distros.
I seem to have a problem that a lot of people have: My work uses exchange server 5.5/2007. Does evolution still not support this? I tried to set it up and it tells me that it won't work with exchange 5.5.

my Outlook on my windows box still show's the messages along with OWA

I have just setup evolution to pull in my exchange emails using MAPI. All seems to be well, except that it isn't pulling down my calendar or tasks. I understood that it was supposed to automatically do this, is this correct?We are using exchange 2005 I believe, so wonder if this is specifically the issue.

Evolution adds my own calendar just fine but I don't know how to add the extra one.
I know that in Outlook you can select "Add shared calendar" but I can't find this option in Evolution.
I use Ubuntu with Evolution here at work, and we have an Exchange server. can I somehow suck up all of the addresses in the global address list and somehow save them locally and import them to Evolution? Since I can't "link" to the global list it would at least be handy for me to utilize locally.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a little problem with Evolution and Exchange 2007. I have managed to connect to the Exchange server without problem using MAPI and I can access my emails fine.
The only problem I have is that although I have checked all the options to download messages and automatically synchronise account locally it won't store the email contents locally until I first look open it (or at least preview it).
Unfortunately I have over 5000 emails so this presents a little problem.
I don't know if this is a bug or just how evolution works.
Running it from a terminal, every few minutes this happens:(evolution:25607): libsoup-CRITICAL **: set_ current_request: assertion `priv->cur_req == NULL' failed Segmentation fault..Found lots of cases that mention Gentoo (and Evolution 2.4) and this bug, but nothing with Debian. Bug is apparently due to the version of libsoup that Evolution is compiled against.Install is relatively fresh; about a day old. Packages are the latest updates.
View 1 Replies View RelatedEvolution won't connect to our Exchange Server 2003. I have the Evolution-Exchange plugin installed and the Evolution vsn is 2.28.3. The Ubuntu vsn is 10.04 lucid. In the setup of the mail account I enter the user name in the form domainusername; in the OWA URL I enter the URL in the form - URL... and then I click the authenticate button (can't progress without authenticating). When requested I enter the password. Then comes the error message - could not connect to the server. Make sure the url is correct and try again.
I can connect to OWA using a browser. However I have to negotiate past the browser warning me that the server has a self generated certificate and not from a trusted authority. Maybe this is the problem, I don't know. The fact that I can get to OWA by means of a browser means that the firewall in our router is configured correctly, as is port forwarding to the server.The domain/exchange server is in our office and I have administrator rights.
I am working happily with Fedora 8, evolution chatting happily to exchange 2003, calendar sync the works...impressed. This continued through Fedora 9 (though a little bumpy as all odd numbered Fedora releases are). On to Fedora 10, yes works a treat out of the box (DVD). A couple of updates to evolution later, through yumex (fedora updates), and evolution has stopped sending email to the exchange server. It's also touch and go whether I can read email using OWA.
On pressing 'Send/Receive' evolution pops the error,

Exchange transport can only be used with Exchange mail source.
How could I back out these evolution updates?
I have F13 x86_64 with all updates. I tried to setup Evolution to access our corporate MS Exchange 2007 server, so I installed evolution-mapi-0.30.3-1.fc13.x86_64 , yum pulled in also dependecies samba4-libs-4.0.0-22.alpha11.fc13.x86_64 and openchange-0.9-2.fc13.x86_64.
Installation went OK, then I tried to setup the account in Evolution. I chose :
server type: Exchange MAPI
server: mailserver.corporatedomain.com
username: my.username
Domain name: corporatedomain.com
Of course, the names of server, domain and my username are different in reality, however, I entered them in the same format as written here. The communication with mailserver is on corporate internal LAN - no routers or firewalls between. When I click "Autheticate" it prompts me for password, I put in the correct password but I get the error: Authentication failed. MapiLogonProvider:MAPI_E_LOGON_FAILED
I tried to put in the IP address of the mailserver instead of its network name, tried to put in the IP of the domain controller, enter the domain name in uppercase, all sorts of combinations but nothing works.

I have wiped Windows and am running 10.04 exclusively. 32 bit, when setting up evolution e mail account i dont see where to enter password....where is it? anyone have link with screenshots? i know i can use regular hotmail but want to know how to use default ubuntu programs.
I still can't find a spot for password. options are, login, set preferences and a remember password checkbox but nowhere to enter a password
I am trying to configure evolution to work with MS Exchange but cannot get it to work. I also have an android phone which is dead easy to configure, but I've tried so may settings but cannot get evolution to connect. Anyone also having had this problem and finally solved it? I also tried DavMail with no luck.

What does this mean? I mean there are plenty of guides that tell you how to but majority of guides of no insight to help you understand what is going on. Also I don't know about you but I find it an incredibly shallow and not to mention fraught experience following guides that contain customized elements because I never know the specifications applicable to me. You can't always just copy and paste commands as sometimes variables are tailored to the instructor's situation.
What is a "server"? What are the servers involved in having an email client?"pop3.live.com" is specified by default. What is pop3?What should I specify as my server type? How do I find out?"SMTP" is specified by default as server type. What is SMTP?What is "inet daemon"? It is mentioned in some guides.What is "hotway"?"This will set the inet daemon to listen to incoming calls on port 2500, and forward the connection to the hotsmtp daemon. Now, save your file, exit gedit, and restart your inetd server using the following command" - what is "port 2500"? This is why Linux will never be able to compete with Windows. Think how easy it is to set up Outlook. It doesn't assume obscure knowledge of technical aspects.
Is it possible to set automatic archive periodically ala outlook? My server has very limited storage so I would like to delete messages from server but keep them locally.

I would like my work email (which I check via IMAP) to be copied locally as it comes in so that I can file it properly, but also kept on the server so that I can access through my laptop.
I have set a message filter which does the following:

The filter works (if I apply manually then it goes) AND I have set the preferences to apply filters automatically, but no joy when a new email arrives.
I'm trying to set up my gmail account with Evolution. I am trying to set up a mail client where -
1) All the mails are stored locally, so that I can work offline. When I reconnect, the client (Evolution) syncs with the server - sends emails and updates any changes.
2) All the labels/folder system to be respected and retained.
After struggling with various sites that argued Pop3 and IMAP (numerous blogs and google searches), I came across this conclusion (pls correct them if they are wrong)-
1) Pop3 allows mails to be stored locally, but will not break them up into folders.
2) IMAP will allow the folder system, but will only store the headers of mail on the local server, and the content will be downloaded as per request.
1) Will Pop3 access allow syncing between the local version and the server version? For instance, a mail read in Evolution should be marked as read when I sign into the web-interface as well.(I can always create a filter/rule that replicates gmail filters)
2) Will IMAP allow me to store all mail locally (isn't this exactly what IMAP is not!)? The combination of imap-gmail-evolution was not so successful when I tried it out - too slow!
PS: I would prefer Evolution over Thunderbird so that I can integrate the Calendar. However, if ThunderBird is the easiest solution, then it's fine too...
I am wondering if it is possible to set up the Evolution Calendar without setting up the email. Since I don't want to use a desktop mail.
